Harbor and marina views

Guests say the views are gorgeous.
Overlooking the marina and Yeocomico River, this loft-style apartment is a perfect home base in the charming village of Kinsale. Take in all the area has to offer - beautiful views, coastal wildlife, historic sites, river adventures, wineries, local seafood and produce - and come back to relax in this lovely setting.

The space
Adjacent to the village's steamboat landing and Kinsale Market, this building was originally constructed in 1920 as a granary and storage house. In 1979 the Granary Apartment as you see it today was designed and added by Annie's father. Located in the heart of the small village, with a surprisingly unique yet timeless style inside, the apartment makes for a memorable experience.

From here it's easy to pop in to the Kinsale Market next door for lunch or dinner supplies, walk to the museum, rent a kayak down the hill at the marina, take your dog for a paddle - we're excited to share the many activities in and around Kinsale.

Guest access
The Granary Apartment takes up the entire second floor of the building and is accessed by an exterior staircase. The adjacent marina is also run by Annie, your AirBNB host, and you will have use of the pool, tennis court, and grills there.

Other things to note
The Apartment is located on the second floor of an old building, and does require climbing up rather steep steps in order to access it. Once inside, the loft space is up another set of steep steps. Keeping that in mind, this may not be suitable for small children or anyone who has trouble climbing stairs.

Note that the Apartment does not have central AC, but 2 AC window units. There is a Smart TV but no cable.

The Granary, right down the hill from the Apartment, is still in operation and during certain times of the year farm trucks and barges are coming and going regularly. Depending on harvest seasons and the weather, there may be noise coming from the operation - it's white noise to most of us here, but be aware we can't predict when those times will be and sometimes it does run during the night.

The Apartment and village have a lot of character - it's a great place to visit if you're interested in history, wildlife, river life, and unique experiences - but doesn't offer some of the comforts that more modern AirBNBs may, so keep that in mind when booking. "Poor in things plentiful, but rich in things rare" is how my father used to describe the area - we continue to stand out that way today.

Neighborhood highlights

In the heart of charming Kinsale, the apartment is within easy walking distance to everything in the village. Kinsale served as a bustling harbor during the Colonial era, with its protected location and deep-water port on the Yeocomico River. The village was founded in 1706 and named after a village in County Cork, Ireland, meaning "head of salt water." The same sheltered and remote location that made Kinsale a coveted port in the past has been key to preserving so much of its vernacular charm, sense of community and classic Tidewater hospitality. Although Kinsale experienced its most notable commercial growth during the first half of the 20th century, thanks to the steamboat presence at the time, it remains a dynamic waterfront community of residents, weekenders, sailors, and watermen.

Your host, Annie, runs the marina right down the hill and you'll have full access to the amenities there as well - including the pool, tennis/pickleball court, clubhouse, and boat launch. The marina offers kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals, a yoga class every Sunday, and can help coordinate sailboat and fishing charters.
