The space
Eight Bells is a cottage that dates back to 1753. Part of the cottage is the former kitchen and servant’s quarters to Wynding House, next door, where local heroin Grace Darling’s family lived.
The cottage is c1000 square ft in total with three floors at the front and two floors at the back. It has electric heating throughout via new remote controlled/adjustable Rointe radiators. There is WiFi throughout also. There is a Bugaboo Stardust travel cot and baby chair available on request for guests with a young child.
In what is now the lounge, you will find the original eight servants bells on the wall and smoking jack or spit above the fire. There is comfortable seating for 4 people in the lounge and a large coffee table. There is a large wood burning stove
with a bag of wood, kindling, fire lighters and matches supplied. There is an internet Samsung TV with Netflix, Disney plus etc. There is a large original window with bay full of selected antiques in the lounge and a smaller window on the stairs. There is an original grandfather clock with brass sundial face dating to the 1750’s.
The fully equipped kitchen includes a Bosch oven, hob, fridge and dishwasher, DeLonghi kettle and toaster, Panasonic microwave, freezer and AEG washing machine and dryer. There is also a table top freezer. High quality pans, cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery. Cereal and milk, tins of coffee, tea and sugar provided. Teapot, coffee maker (plunger), coffee sieve and filters and a milk frother. There’s a table that comfortably seats 4 people. The kitchen has numerous antiques displayed.
The spiral staircase in the Kitchen leads upto the Snug room above which enjoys fabulous views of Bamburgh castle and the sea in the distance across the dunes. There is a very comfortable spare double bed in the Snug which pulls out from the settee. The Snug has a balcony accessed via French doors with seating for two and a table. There is seating for upto four people in the Snug. There is an Apple iMac, wireless keyboard and mouse.
From the lounge, up the staircase to the first floor bedroom which has Etienne king size bed, bedside cabinets with lamps, large wardrobe and tallboy (including hairdryer). There is an ironing board and iron inside the separate walk in cupboard. The window has the original wooden shutters which can be closed at night. All curtains have black out lining.
From the first floor, up the staircase to the second floor bedroom. Furnishings include an Etienne super king bed, bed side cabinets with lamps, wardrobe, set of drawers (with hairdryer) and dressing table with mirror. There are three Velux windows with shutters that pull down at night. There is another Samsung smart/internet TV on the set of drawers. There is a large ornate mirror at the top of the stairs.
The bathroom which includes luxury Roca bath, shower, wash basin and toilet fittings is on the ground floor between the lounge and the kitchen.
There is a selection of antique furnishings throughout to complement the cottage’s history.

Other things to note
The cottage has a spare pullout king sized bed in the Snug which is very comfortable and can be used when certain guests (eg teenage siblings or two single adults) don’t want to sleep in the same bed. Elderly guests and young children will naturally need to take extra care on the staircase and the spiral staircase.
