Tired of all the slick black & white stale investment properties? Bring color, warmth, and style into your experience of the high desert with a rich culture and long history.

This isn’t just another trendy Airbnb investment property—it’s a one-of-a-kind family home. Beat the crowds, enjoy the solitude, and feel as though you’re staying off the grid. Take a well-deserved break from the hustle and bustle of life, and gaze at the stars from the hot tub.

If you’re seeking something authentic, you’ve found it. No other short-term rental has this story or the decades of family history that come with it. No trends were followed, no corners were cut—only a deep respect for my family’s legacy, culture, stories, and love.

As a desert lover and artist, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime to shape the next chapter of my grandparents’ home. I photographed every detail, curated the artifacts and furniture, and worked tirelessly to keep the legacy alive. I couldn’t be more proud of how everything turned out, and I’m excited to share this special place with others.

My grandparents purchased this house and the surrounding five acres in the early 1960s, and I’ve been coming here since before I was born—back when I was still in my mother’s belly. As a child, it was my giant playground; as an adult, it’s become a sacred, special retreat. As an artist, this place inspires me deeply—it breathes life into my photography, fuels my music, and fills my soul with peace.

For many years, my parents used it as a vacation home, and now I’m thrilled to call it my own. It’s an honor to continue my grandfather’s legacy and share this cherished space with others.

Love dirt biking or off-roading? You’re in for a treat! From here, you can ride straight out into endless miles of BLM land. Feel free to reach out if you need tips or suggestions on where to explore.

The house features a quiet, spacious, and open layout, adorned with curated artifacts and stylish touches. Hints of Mexico weave throughout, paying homage to my Hispanic heritage while blending seamlessly with the mid-century aesthetic of the late 1950s and 1960s. These elements beautifully complement the home’s original architecture, creating a space that feels like a journey back in time.

_The Land_
Nestled amidst rolling hills, the house is set far back from the street, offering unparalleled privacy. The surrounding five acres exude an undeniable positive energy that’s impossible to ignore. Countless friends and guests have remarked on this feeling, and it’s one of the main reasons I cherish spending as much time here as I can.

_The Property_
I grew up riding dirt bikes, chasing lizards and cottontails, and exploring the desert with my siblings. This property has been in my family for four generations, and its legacy runs deep. Now, I have two daughters of my own who get to experience the same adventures I cherished as a child, creating their own memories in this special place.

_The Hot Tub_
The large, 65-jet hot tub, designed to accommodate up to five people, is tucked away on the private back patio. It’s the perfect spot to watch the sunset or relax under a blanket of stars in the night sky. For a seamless experience, please be sure to review my guidelines for hot tub use.

_The Bedroom_
Relax in the spacious bedroom, featuring a luxurious California King bed with a top-of-the-line Tuft & Needle mattress and pillows. The room is elegantly furnished with a matching West Elm mid-century modern bedroom set, perfectly complementing the curated artifacts imported from Mexico. You’ll also find a full closet and a full-length mirror for your convenience.

Blackout curtains on the east-facing sliding glass window ensure you can sleep in and recharge. For your musical needs, a BOSE Bluetooth speaker is provided, enhancing your comfort as you unwind and soak in the serenity of the high desert.

_The Living Room_
Cozy up by the working potbelly wood-burning stove, nestled in a living area with a spacious, ultra-comfortable corner couch perfect for sinking into. Large east-facing windows fill the space with warm morning sunlight, creating a welcoming ambiance.

Adding to the charm is a vintage stereo system and console, inherited from my other grandfather, complete with a classic record player and a collection of vinyl to set the perfect soundtrack for your stay. For year-round comfort, mini-split systems provide refreshing air conditioning in the summer and cozy heat in the winter.

_The Kitchen_
Pull up an orange stool and relax at the bar with a coffee or cocktail in hand. Alternatively, sit at the dining table and enjoy the view through the window—you might just spot a roadrunner or a flock of quail wandering near the two yuccas.

_The Den_
A hideaway bed is available for guests, offering a comfortable spot to relax or rest. For those seeking a quiet moment, there’s a cozy space perfect for sitting or reading. And if inspiration strikes, a classical guitar awaits, ready for you to serenade your lover. 🎶

_El Baño_
The bathroom features all-original retro sink, shower, and tub, each adding unique character to the space. Saloon doors evoke a playful nod to your inner cowboy/cowgirl/cowperson, while the original tile work from 1968 brings a touch of vintage charm.

_Cleaning_
100% of the cleaning fee goes to the fantastic local team who clean my place!

To truly immerse yourself in the high desert and get settled in, I recommend a minimum three-night stay—you’ll find yourself wishing you had just one more day!

In conclusion:

I believe in quality over quantity, and the idea that less is more. No shortcuts were taken in creating Casa de Conejo—every detail was thoughtfully considered. I’m proud of how my vision has come to life, and I’m thrilled to share this special place with you and your guests.

My grandfather’s home and the surrounding land have been my sanctuary throughout my life, and I’m deeply grateful to now call it my own. It’s a place where I go to get grounded, retreat from the busyness of life, play, and find peace. I absolutely love it, and I hope you will too.

My hope is that during your stay, you can rest, rejuvenate, get grounded, and experience the magic of the Mojave desert—finding some peace of your own along the way.

Truly,
-Chris

Guest access
There is a front gate that can be opened/closed and ample parking in front of the garage facing the clothes line & The Piano.

It’s important to me that my guests feel safe and secure, allowing both the mind and body to fully relax and rest.

Other things to note
This home has been in my family for 3 generations and it's very special. I'm honored to share what I've been enjoying my entire life with my guests. Now you are part of the story!

The desert holds such a peaceful positive energy, I hope that when you leave you feel that you've experienced something unforgettable and special. I know I do every time I visit.

* Wifi: The wifi is not the fasted due to being in unincorporated San Bernardino. If you're looking to stream movies and need high speed internet, this probably isn't the space for you unfortunately. If need be tethering off a phone to a computer works great.

My grandparents bought a little place on 5 acres in 1964 and it's been in the family every since. I've been visiting as long as I can remember and now I'm proud to call it my own. This is a home build with love, a long history and a rich culture. It's not just another black and white investment property but a magical experience filled with color and culture. I visit as much as I can while now living in Seattle with my wife and 3 beautiful daughters. We love it there and know you will too!
