Frequently Asked Questions & Essential Details
Is Beary Basecamp located in Durango?
Yes. We have a Durango address and are located in the northern corridor of the city. We are specifically situated for mountain access rather than the "downtown" experience.
How far are you from the Ski Resort and Downtown?
• Purgatory Resort: 2 minutes (1 mile). Our guests enjoy "first-chair" access without the 30+ minute commute from town.
• Historic Downtown Durango: A scenic 25-minute drive south.
• Silverton: A 30-minute drive north.
What are the Parking and Trailer Rules?
Our HOA allows free parking for 2 guest vehicles in the community parking lot.
• Small Trailers: May be parked in the area by the sales cabin (the cabin on your right when you first enter Silver Pick).
• Prohibited On-Site: Large trailers, ATVs, boats, and large campers must be parked off-site.
Does the condo have Air Conditioning?
Like most homes in the high-altitude San Juan Mountains, this condominium does not have central air conditioning. Even in the middle of summer, temperatures typically dip into the 40s at night. If it gets warm during the day, we recommend opening the windows to let in the crisp mountain air; we also provide several fans in the closets for your comfort.
Are there stairs?
Yes. Please note that stairs are required to access the condo building itself, as well as to access the upstairs bedroom.
Is a 4WD/AWD vehicle recommended?
While our roads are maintained, we strongly recommend an AWD or 4WD vehicle during the winter months (November–April) to safely navigate the mountain terrain.
Other recommendations:
We highly recommend stocking up on groceries and necessities in downtown Durango before heading up to the condo. Check out our guidebook for some recommendations.
