Our beautifully restored self catering cottage is located on the island of Burray linked by road via the Churchill barriers to the mainland of Orkney and is attached to our family home. We have kept and restored some of the old beautiful features like the exposed stone walls and stone floor we have also installed a new multi fuel stove for cosy nights around the fire

The space
The property consists of a traditionally styled living area with exposed stone walls and cosy fireplace adjoining that is a kitchen area with belfast sink with views over farmland. A staircase leads to a tastefully decorated bedroom and separate shower room, a small garden to the front lets you enjoy the sea views and relax with your favourite drink.

The Auld kitchen is in a great place for exploring Orkneys historic sites, coastal walks and wildlife. Take a trip to the fossil and heritage centre where you’ll discover all you need to know about Orkneys past. The Churchill barriers are an amazing sight with lovely sandy beaches and turquoise waters and are a base for scuba diving, paddle boarding and kayaking around the old shipwrecks, the famous Italian Chapel is also located between the barriers and is a short drive away. There are plenty of scenic walks to try and if you venture out on an evening you may catch a glimpse of the northern lights which are a common occurrence.

Burray beach is a five minute walk and another five minutes will take you to another large sandy beach located beyond the fourth Churchill barrier. The Sands public bar/hotel and restaurant is a ten minute walk serving great food daily and takeaways. The polly kettle tearoom and local crafts is a ten minute walk away. The Auld Kitchen is conveniently located five minutes from the reliable bus service (X1) either wait at the stop or wave it down on its route, it’s a short ride to the Pentland ferry terminal in St Margarets Hope where you’ll find delicious locally caught seafood available at the Murray Arms, lovely food and drink at Robertsons Coffee Hoose, there is also two well stocked grocery shops a post office and a nine hole golf course.
