A humble heritage listed cottage built with convict bricks in the mid 1800s. Two fireplaces keep the cottage warm during the cold winters experienced on the Central Highlands. The house has been restored with all modern amenities and carefully and thoughtfully curated with a diverse collection of vintage and antique pieces which speak to the varied history of the cottage. Just 90 minutes from Launceston and 1 hour from Hobart, Bothwell is the perfect location from which to explore.
“A superb Airbnb, like staying in a magazine or a (stylish) museum, one of the best we have ever stayed in. The restoration is fantastic and sensitively done, the furniture and decor absolutely stunning. Extremely cozy and warm with the woodfire, comfortable beds and linen. Appreciated the lovely coffee and other little touches like a home made bath salts mix with spices. Also appreciated the eco-friendly ethos very much. The Butcher's House epitomises the best of Airbnb - someone very talented investing in restoring or building something precious (that in this case might otherwise go to ruin) and sharing it with others. For food, Sealy's cafe a short walk away (as recommended by the host) is wonderful, and we also managed to wrangle an excellent dinner at nearby Ratho farm (generally only available when they don't have many guests). Bothwell to us is a quintessentially Tasmanian town - not always picturesque, but friendly and characterful (eg during our stay, the pub was full of wallaby hunters passing through, and we impulse purchased some rare-breed chickens spotted over a fence from a passionate breeder!). The midlands/highlands area is beautiful in its own quiet way and worth some time on a Tasmanian itinerary. Many thanks for a marvellous stay.”

“David’s place is extremely unique. The location is breathtaking and the house is so thoughtfully designed. David gave us a thorough check in and is clearly passionate about the place he’s built and preserving the environment. The old style stove, bath and music were great touches we really enjoyed. The views are irreplaceable and walking around the private property is a lovely experience. I would highly recommend this tiny house for a unique getaway away from it all!”
