Recently remodeled Belizean Colonial Style home. Clean and well lighted spaces. Located about 5 minutes walking distance from commercial downtown area. The Moroton area of San Ignacio is a mix between commercial and residential area. We are a very progressive bunch, and welcoming to everyone. We accept all guests. The home sits beside St. Andrews Anglican School and is an extremely safe area, excellent for a family or couple who wants to walk around town.
“The apartment was large, spacious, sparkling clean, and extremely close to town while far enough away to make it quiet at night. Dorian was so quick to respond if we had any questions, and Windy went out of her way to help us, from organizing a cave tubing adventure with very little notice, to helping us get a taxi- she even lent me her water shoes for the tubing adventure since all I had were flip flops!! The AC was amazing, the kitchen set-up ideal, and the bed was so comfortable we slept hard every night. If you have the chance to book this place, jump on it!!”

“This place is amazing! My wife, our nine-year-old daughter, and I absolutely loved staying here. The house is absolutely beautiful and full of intentional artistic touches. The ecological design was exciting to see as well, with the option of using a methane digestor stovetop burner and tropical permaculture garden. We were greeted by toucans in giant guanacaste trees and an absolutely epic swimming spot on the river behind the house. We took a dip immediately upon arrival at dusk and came out of the river to see fireflies along the bank. Sitting on the screened-in porch in the morning and drinking coffee, looking over the river, listening to the sounds of the jungle and watching the countless bird species (the provided binoculars was a great touch) was a highlight of my trip. Hadas was an exceptional host. We were in contact before the trip and she was able to send me a pdf guidebook about the place and the area that really helped in planning our trip. She met us when we arrived and was very patient and gracious with us while we landed and even took us down to the river to catch the last bit of daylight with a swim (we had left our house in Colorado at 2AM and had spent the whole day traveling to get there). She walked us through all the details of the place and made sure we were settled, bringing us fresh fruit and cut flowers for our stay. There was also a mini-bar of sorts with some chocolates and snacks available for purchase, as well as free coffee and tea. We would have loved to spend more time here, and are planning on coming back some day. It is really close to places to eat in Santa Elena and San Ignacio, but feels like a sanctuary. I would recommend this place to anybody.”
Hortus Locus 1 is a cozy room with a shared bathroom & kitchen located at a 5 minute DRIVE from the beautiful town of San Ignacio in the Cayo District. The room has private access & is perfect for couples or single backpacker, like yourself, who are interested in my little jewel, Belize. The Cayo District is where many activities take place such as: cave-tubing, zip-lining, climbing archaeological sites, riding ATVs, canoeing, and exploring waterfalls. Earplugs needed, dogs in the neighborhood.
“We fell in love with this place. The garden area is beautiful and we really loved hanging out on the porch, complete with hammocks. The kitchen area is outside (covered), and it is basic but we cooked often and had all we needed for basic meals. There is a good supermarket five minutes walk away. The area is not a tourist area per se. It's real Belize but we felt safe here. It is a fairly long walk (25 mins) into the centre of town but there are buses if you prefer and taxis are not too expensive if you need one. The rooms are small, mainly just a bed and a little space to store your things but the garden is right outside and that counts as a lovely space to hang out in. The bathroom is not ensuite and is shared when both rooms are occupied. In summary, this not a high-end holiday accommodation but we loved it. I will definitely go back if we head back to Belize sometime. Mirian was amazingly helpful to us and one of the sweetest people we met anywhere! travels”
