1 week agoJennifer was very responsive when I booked the experience, and then Yvonne, our tour guide, was terrific. Yvonne got us all so excited about volcanoes! Yvonne shared her deep knowledge of how volcanic activity follows a pattern and the tools she uses to keep track of when the next eruption is going to happen, and using her tools, we could see that Kilauea was getting closer and closer to eruption as we continued our hike! Yvonne provided a light breakfast of muffins and fruits from her home garden, and hearty, delicious sandwiches for lunch from a local deli. Yvonne checked out our party of 5 (ages 31-65) and offered a couple of options so that we could choose the best option for our level of fitness. What we did (~7 miles including the Kīlauea Iki Trail + lava tubes) was perfect for us: a challenging workout, but not so hard that we felt unsafe. Afterwards, Yvonne even texted us about the eruption so that we could come back to the park and experience it! A trip we'll remember forever!

3 weeks agoReally good hike through Volcano National Park. Our group consisted of 2-adults who walk 2+ miles/day (57yo) and 3- healthy, fit, young adults in their 20's. We met Caine, easily in the parking area, and were briefed on our hike for the day. He provided backpacks for those that needed one, a lunch, and a quick overview of what our day would be. We started out great and walked through the rainforest & 2 caldrons throughout the day. Lunch was great. It was the 2nd part of the walk (steep up hill) (2 of these during the day) that got the older ones in the group. We finally just let the younger ones and the guide go on taking our own breaks as none were really offered and not really noticed by the guide. We finished the hike an hour earlier than we were stated, which would have easily been slowed down a bit on the uphills for the older adults. Overall, great hike. Just slow down for older people on this 6+mile day. Whew.
