I woke up to the sound of woodpeckers on the roof, bright and early on day one. Upon opening the cabin's door, I was greeted by one of the most beautiful sunrises I’ve ever witnessed in my entire life. Gentle misted clouds rolled silently over the adjacent hill, with sunlight comprising every hue of amber streaming majestically through its billowed folds. As I ambled down to the second cabin in my moccasins, I spotted an Amish man threshing wheat by hand in the distance, his horse standing dutifully by in the dew of the previous night’s thunderstorm. The shower was so cold it froze away any remnants of a concrete world left behind. I spent the next few days lying in the grass, playing guitar, and exploring the Driftless region’s pockets and pastures — each more breathtaking than the last. This is a magical place, and I will soon return.

This is our third time staying at the cabin and we love it because it’s right next door to our family’s cabin. We have river access to go fishing, boating in Mississippi or do any other water activities. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful. We love the back deck but there’s some wasps that deterred our hanging out back there. Our doggies have a blast so we love that this cabin is pet friendly. Sam & Tim are great hosts and always very responsive. The cabin is exactly as described. They have all the amenities you need except if you want coffee from a coffee pot then bring a small one…we did and it was great! We’re not big Keurig coffee drinkers. Also we don’t like the constant cleaning that you need to do with a Keurig. The blinds in every room could use some dusting but everything else was pretty clean. Very peaceful and the cost depends on when you want to go. It can get pricey but it was worth the peace and beauty from the city. Thank you and we’ll be back.

The Hogstad Homestead

The Hogstad Homestead has been in our family for nearly 70 years. The name is in honor of my great grandparents Ardell&Elaine Hogstad who bought the property in the early 1950's. They raised their two children there and also operated a farm for many years. Since then it has been home to many family members. In 2017 my husband & I had the opportunity to buy it. It was home to us for 5 amazing years where we created many happy memories. We are now ready to share this special property with others!

Jessica was super helpful throughout the whole stay. The places is very quaint and on a beautiful piece of property. The town is lovely and it’s not a far drive to the bigger cities south of it. I would definitely recommend this place.

We had a wonderful stay. The house was comfortable and we loved the view of the Mississippi River. There were numerous trains throughout the day and night but trains are something most of us enjoy. The kitchen was awesome with everything we needed. Hope to be back again. Thank you!

We had 4 families - 12 people - get together for our traditional holiday weekend gathering. It’s hard finding a place large enough for all of us and if close by hiking/biking options. This place was perfect. Plenty of bedrooms, and probably the first dining room that fit all of us. Ashley was very responsive and we highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a large gathering place for multiple families.

We (two adults and a dog) enjoyed everything about this cabin. The best part was watching sunrises over the Black River through the living room windows while we enjoyed our coffee. All the furniture was comfortable. The host also had thoughtful items around for use, like bug spray, campfire marshmallows, and dog toys. We had a peaceful weekend here.
