The popular writer Virginia Woolf used to live in our village. You can walk to her house from The Loft. See her writer's studio in the garden and rooms in her home.

Monks House was bought by Virginia and Leonard Woolf in 1919 - and was their home until Virginia drowned in March 1941. Viginia's sister, Vanessa Bell, lived close by at Charleston in Firle. Famous works such as "To The Lighthouse" were written here. Now run by the National Trust, its well worth a visit.
