If you would like to see the view from the river but don't want an architecture tour, take the water taxi! It is inexpensive and you can ride it all the way down to China town.

If you want to be on the river to see the architecture, but don't want to pay $50 per person for a tour guide, just hop on the water taxi. A ticket is ~$7 and can be purchased on line.

The yellow water taxis stop at various neighborhoods along the Chicago River, and you can get on and off as you please for just $6. Goes from Michigan Avenue to Chinatown and back.
