Near to Slapton Sands stands a Sherman Tank that was sunk in action and has now been recovered. The tank was set up as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the ill-fated 'Exercise Tiger'.

Torcross was evacuated in WW2 to make way troops to practice for the D-Day landings. Restored tank monument in Torcross car-park. Another WW2 monument further along Slapton Sands.

This area of coast line is of historical significance as the 3 mile stretch of beach was used in 1943 for official D-Day landing practice. There is also a Sherman tank in the car park at the south end of the beach, which was found buried in the sand, and commemorates Exercise Tiger.
