This fascinating Victorian building built in 1790 has a colourful history and offers stunning views of the lake. The station is a short uphill walk from Ferry House jetty and is well worth a visit with historical information and courtyard café. Take the Windermere ferry from Bowness which runs every 40 minutes.
Recently refurbished by the National Trust. A superb location to Windermere and the surrounding fells. Just a stones throw away from the Cuckoo Brow Inn and a ‘miles without stiles route’ up the west side of Lake Windermere to Wray Castle.
This is a great little place to explore. A short trip on the Windermere ferry (£1pp foot passenger) will take you from Bowness to Windermere's west shoreline. Here you'll find the National Trust's Claife Highest viewing station a few minutes walk away (free entry). There's also a seasonal cafe serving coffees, cakes, pastries and ice creams.
Great views along the length of Lake Windermere in the middle of the National Park and World Heritage Site
