Area of special scientific interest for birds and native plants. Google have marked the position of this area incorrectly .. it is the area between the sea and south of the GC500. It is a lovely place for a quiet walk, beachcombing, bird spotting (hawks, wading birds, migratory birds) (there are information plaques dotted around that indicate things of particular interest). There are also the remains of old salt works dating from the 15th century that sometimes attracted the attention of British and Dutch pirates. Castillo (Castle) del Romeral once had a fort ... hence its name to defend the area from marauders. Only a tiny, sad fragment of the fort remains ... hidden away in the village.
