“Sara's house is just like the pictures, even nicer, it really is paradise. Its comfy, well equipped, clean and the beach and hot tub are amazing. Ken the manager looked after us and helped when we needed him. I'd say you could do a big shopping on arrival and stay in the house without renting a car as the house is incredible and has an incredible beach. That being said it would be a shame not to visit the island, and you can't do it without a car (we rented Sara's car) and Google will take you everywhere quite precisely, just download the map before you leave, this way you won't use data. There are potholes everywhere on the road, you'll have to learn to dodge them, feels a bit like Mario Kart :-) Remember they drive on the left side in the Bahamas. You can drive to North Eleuthera in about 1h30 and then grab a taxi boat to harbour island for 5$. On arrival you can rent a golf cart for 50$/day (try and negiciate the price if you use for less than 3 hours). The pink sand beach on harbour island is the most incredible thing you'll see in your life, we went in October and there was literally no one on that beach, made it look surreal. On your way to the North of the island you'll get to see all the major towns, and see the glass window bridge, you can stop on the side to take pictures, we even climbed up for a better view. There are shops and restaurants everywhere around the house within 15/20 minutes drive. Everything is expensive there, shops and especially restaurants which (like in America) don't include tax or gratuity in their prices that are already high, count easily 50$ minimum for a couple of drinks and a couple of dishes. So we ate at home a lot, the house is perfectly equipped with everything you need for cooking plus has a big fridge / freezer. Apart from that we still tried a few restaurants; the Fishbone in Savannah Sound, food OK and place quite nice; the Frigate in Rock Sound, our favourite, excellent food, lovely terrace; And the 1648 (French Leave Hotel) in Governors Harbor, extra expensive but excellent food and service, and amazing view. We bought fish and lobster from the Dock in Tarpum Bay one day. The fisherman fishes in the morning, go around 1 or 2pm. Its the best value for money and the fresh fish was a real treat we cooked it on the BBQ it was delicious. We enjoyed a dip in the sea most days, the water is so warm and transparent, paddle board and kayaks were a lot of fun, be careful when the sea is really quiet there are jelly fish, you see them on the beach, we avoided swimming those days. As for the bugs they definitely are everywhere on the island and you will get bitten, but it didn't ruin our holiday or stopped us from wanting to go back, just use bug spray, you'll be fine. The Bahamians are the nicest people, so polite friendly and helpful. I could talk for hours about the island and hope my experience will help some of you. Fair to say I recommend Sara's House warmly, and Sara herself was the nicest host, communication was perfect and she gave us a lot of helpful information. Thank you for everything!”
Sand Dollar Cottage is situated on a Caribbean-side waterfront lot with beautiful sunset views.
“Sand Dollar Cottage is located in Rock Sound Eleuthera Bahamas which is a relatively undeveloped part of the island that we fell in love with. The house itself is lovely, clean, decorated perfectly, great A/C. great kitchen, comfy beds, wifi, TV Cable, and a full sized washer/dryer. There is plenty of dishes, kitchen ware, ect. The house is very close to the Caribbean but the water is very shallow and not the best for swimming in that area. so we went swimming frequently at Rosie's Northside Restaurant beach which is about 5-7 minutes away by car. There is very little tourism there and very little infrastructure but there is a bank and supermarket very close by within walking distance and a restaurant called Frigates to the left side of the house which has a good menu, full bar, and very good food. We also went to Wild Orchids which is just a few minutes away which is also on the water and has great food. My favorite was the grouper creole style. We absolutely fell in love with Rosie's Northside Restaurant beach. Unfortunately Rosie was not open for the restaurant business during our stay due to an injury but we will be back for her cooking and enjoy the beautiful pink sand beach in front of her business. We rented a car from friendly bob who was very helpful. I recommend an SUV if you want to explore the beaches such as Lighthouse Point Beach becahse the road is like a Jurassic Park trail with major potholes and volcanic rock. We had a charter fishing trip out of Davis Marina with Captain Gibson and hauled in over 30 fish the first day! We went to Cape Eleuthera for a shark dive and also went diving on the wall which was beautiful! The sharks were amazing to swim with until they came straight at you within a foot before turning away! We went out spear fishing with some locals called Lord Josh and Josh and had a blast. We also rented a boat at Cape Eleuthera for some relaxing time on some sand bars in the crystal clear Caribbean. If you want top just relax in the water I would suggest bringing pool floats as none of the stores sell beach gear. Ocean Hole was a blast with jumping off the rocks into the water which is said to be bottomless. We went into Governer's Harbour about 40 minutes away for the fish fry on Friday night and partied with the locals although we ate at Tippy's on the beach and had breakfast at the Buccaneer Club which were both great! We went to Harbour Island which is almost 2 hours away and had a great time at the Coral Sands Hotel Beach and went horse back riding in the surf with Marty. Overall the island is very underdeveloped with the exception of Harbour Island with a lot of potholes in the road so drive slow and very little signs or...”
My place is close to the airport of Rock Sound and the beaches of Cotton Bay and Wemyss Bight. You’ll love my place because of the ambiance, the outdoors space, the peaceful location with a very large garden all around the house. It is located near Cape Eleuthera and the Light House Beach. My place is good for couples, for people that are into fishing, for families (with kids), and people that like to travel with their pets. The house is quite near to the Island School. About 10 mile drive.
“We wanted to visit Lighthouse Beach a few times before it becomes "Disneyfied", and Andrea & Stephanie's house is in a ideal location for that purpose. We timed the trip and made it in about 30 minutes. It's also a 2 minute drive to Cotton Bay and it's beautiful beach. The nearby Ship to Shore restaurant has the best chicken we've enjoyed in The Bahamas. The house is very well built, tastefully decorated and was very clean. It's situated on about 1 acre of fenced property. Our dog Murphy enjoyed hours of sniffing new smells and marking the trees. The bed was extremely comfortable - a huge plus with us. The kitchen is a bit small for my taste, but I managed without any problems. Andrea & Stephanie were extremely responsive to my questions and were very helpful in helping us sort out our car rental situation. I hope to meet them in person some day! There's no TV and that proved to be a blessing as we needed to check out of the world for a while. Because I could not fully escape my business responsibilities, I bought a SIM card from "Aliv" one of the cell networks in The Bahamas, and had reliable phone and internet service everywhere on the island. If you're looking for a clean vacation home in a quiet semi-rural Bahamian neighborhood, this is the place for you! We felt comfortable and at ease at all times. The week flew by, and Cheryl and I left with regret and sorrow. We wanted to stay longer! Without question, we will stay here again on our next visit!”
