Waterfront vacation rentals in Shetland Islands

With friendly, helpful hosts and a cosy, warm atmosphere, this one of the best places we’ve stayed. From the breathtaking views to the comfy and beautifully equipped accommodation with its warm and relaxing spa, Niki and Piet have created a true oasis of tranquility in a hectic world. While Shetland itself was even better than we’d hoped for, our trip was made truly special with our stay at Voortrekker.

Wonderful apartment in the heart of Lerwick. Perfect for exploring. Car park only a few mins walk about, very helpful instructions from Nikita.

The house in Scalloway was perfect for the 4 of us (2 couples). We were very comfortable in the cozy house and really felt right at home. The location was perfect for us; it was close to the sea with a view from the living room window. A convenience store, pharmacy, hotel restaurant and a food store were within a short walking distance. Hiking up into the hills behind the house gave us fantastic views of the harbour and the countryside around. Although staying in a town of around 1'000 persons we were not isolated and the main town of Lerwick is less than 15 minutes away. It was a perfect central location for us to go on day trips and even all the way up to the Hermaness Nature Reserve on Unst. We would certainly stay again. Our host George was really great, very helpful and responded immediately when messaged.

Well-appointed and comfortable place in the heart of Lerwick with easy access to amenities and local attractions. We enjoyed our time there. Jade was a great host providing an excellent online guestbook with clear instructions and advice. Communications with Jade were responsive and clear. No hesitation n recommending Jade's place.

A beautiful, quiet spot by the shore in Hillswick. The studio apartment is exactly as described and has everything you need. The next door Wildlife Sanctuary which rescues seals and otters, is well worth a visit. There are stunning coastal walks nearby, the Ness of Hillswick and Eshaness Cliffs.

Voortrekker ranks as one of the top places I've ever stayed. Not only was the apartment very evidently thoughtfully handcrafted (half of the furniture is built-in) it was also very functional with everything well supplied, especially the kitchen. This was only made better by its location, with amazing views and perfectly positioned near the airport and for adventuring in any direction you'd wish. The spa is a fantastic addition. Lastly, Niki and Piet were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable hosts – plus they helped me out (twice!) when I had car trouble. As a woman travelling solo, the apartment struck the perfect balance of privacy/independence and security/safety. I highly recommend staying here!

Had a great stay — everything was clean, quiet, and exactly as described. The host was really friendly and helpful, giving good local tips without being intrusive. Would definitely stay again if I’m in the area.

We enjoyed exploring South Mainland Shetland from this lovely central location. Our hosts were very friendly and informative and nothing was too much trouble. We would highly recommend Voor Trekker. You would not be disappointed.

We had such an amazing stay at Jenny & Pete's! The home was so comfortable, with a really great kitchen set up and a fabulous shower (strong pressure and super hot!) and the most beautiful views over the hill side and cove below. Very convenient to Lerwick, right at a bus stop and less than 10 minutes from town. Jenny was also a really great host, flexible with our check in time and dropping off luggage early, and even helping us sort some car trouble at the end of the trip! Highly recommend!

From start to finish, this was just a fantastic place to stay. Loved it.

We loved our four days at Lesley's. the cottage has a great living space, lovely bathroom & a very comfortable bed. The location is quiet & peaceful within a short walk of Mins Beach. We felt right at home & would certainly recommend Da Crubbit.

Gil was a wonderful host. This is the first Airbnb I've ever rented that when I walked in there were flowers and a very nice welcome basket with bread, milk, eggs, butter and I know more that I am forgetting. Place was fantastic and is the one right next to the Jimmy Perez house in the "Shetland" series. This place was perfect as a basecamp for seeing Shetland. Look forward to staying here again in the future if Gil will have me. Kirk

We really enjoyed our stay at the Chapel, it is a beautiful property and incredibly well equipped with almost anything you could possibly need in terms of kitchen equipment. It has a very comfortable lounge area with a large smart TV and a very comfortable king bed. We couldn’t fault anything. We loved being in Vidlin, it is a quiet village in a stunning location but not too far to drive to other places in Shetland. We would highly recommend this listing. We were thrilled to see otters at dusk near the Vidlin ferry terminal.

house was nice - comfortable beds, nice shower, good unfloor heating in kitchen and bathroom, warm and comfortable. saw otters and birds from living room window as well as nice views out across the bay. conveniently located centrally on the main island and an easy drive to Lerwick.

Comfortable and welcoming home, the views are stunning and it felt very peaceful even with being close to the airport. The house is nice and handy for getting to the local attractions. Stephanie provided lots of information for things to do which was really helpful. She responded very quickly when contacted. Overall an excellent place to stay, enjoy standing at the kitchen window watching the scenery constantly changing.

The cottage was exactly as described. It is a beautifully presented cottage and incredibly well equipped. We had everything we needed. The position of the cottage was perfect for us and the views were absolutely breathtaking. Jane was very responsive and helpful throughout the booking process and even offered to meet us to assist locating the cottage but we found it with no problems. Thankyou for the extra touches such as flowers, bread, milk etc. and we also loved the hand wash! It would be best to have a car due to the remote location and for exploring. Shetland’s roads are fantastic, which made driving very easy. I would recommend this cottage to anyone without hesitation.
