There is an attached bathroom, outdoor solar shower and an open air kitchenette with refrigerator, stove, microwave and toaster oven. Meal plans available or you can cook for yourself. You will love it here!!
“I can assure you that Mel’s Botanical Retreat will be a magical experience. Jamaica is a wonderful place but Mel’s Retreat is the icing on the cake. This place is so colourful and warm, full of beautiful plants and animals. Mel’s amazing cooking and hospitality makes it feel like home, along with her daughter Kiara and the locals. You’re in safe hands here, there is no need to worry. Everyone you meet is willing to guide and help you if you need it. Kentucky is a wonderful place. There is so much to explore and learn here so be prepared to make this an adventure. Mel is an outstanding host, I’ve never met someone with such a bright aura and beautiful personality. She is so caring and I am so excited to see her expand her business. Mel’s retreat is an hour and a half from Montego Bay airport, and roughly 30min from Savanna La Mar where you can do all your little shopping. I recommend visiting the local shops and bars along the road to hear some music and have some fun after dinner. The view from the top of the mountain is breath taking, especially at sunset, it’s like you’re hanging from the clouds. Make sure to look up at night and watch the beautiful bright stars. If you’re into nature you’re in the right place. Everywhere you look there are colourful birds and plants. Hummingbirds are everywhere. The cats on the premises are so cute and love to cuddle. This place is worth it in every way. You’d be missing out if you didn’t visit this place”

“I had the best time at Brian's place! He and his family were incredibly kind and wonderful hosts. Brian is able to arrange for someone to get you at the airport and he is also able to arrange for tours (I recommend the farm tour!), meals, and anything else you may be interested in while you're in Jamaica. The locals in Belmont are also very kind and great to get to know. The room and bathroom were very clean, and the environment was very peaceful. I wish I could fly back for one more breakfast on the veranda. You won't be disappointed if you stay here! (:”

“Canute's place - Mountambrin - is a unique lodging up in the hills northeast of Sav-la-Mar, accessed by road from Ferris Cross. It's the former property of Alex Haley (author of Roots), it's an art retreat and outdoor sculpture gallery, a venue for hosting occasional concerts and much more. There are several rooms in the main house, and a couple of stand-alone rooms that visiting artists and performers prefer. All are unique in terms of decoration, but you can expect heavy wooden furniture and unique artwork involving lots of phalluses. The paintings scattered about the property are the works of Canute's father and there's a sculptor who also lives on-site, who's responsible for the wood carvings. If you're of a prudish disposition, then Mountambrin might be a bit full-on, but I get the impression that most guests leave utterly enchanted by the place. During the day you can sit on the verandah and watch the hummingbirds flitting around the fruit trees, or climb the tower for a great view of the property. If you're a walker, you can explore the 4WD tracks around the property on foot. Canute is a wonderful host; really interesting to talk to, and happy to show his guests around. Meals can be arranged on request and the chef is really good. The road leading up to the property is a bit bumpy but perfectly passable by regular car. Canute is also happy to pick up guests from a nearby location, though Mountambrin can easily be reached by public transport (and a 15-minute walk up). All in all, a memorable, wonderful experience!”
