Shopping

There many food booths to eat inside, include a really good grill for sandwiches and breakfasts. On Saturay and Sundays, there is a LARGE open air flea and farmers market 10-4pm with all sorts of vendors: fresh produce, arts, clothes, jewelry, and prepared hot foods to take away. In addition, there are many brick and mortar stores and restaurants surrounding it. I take all of my out of town friends here to visit it.

You can walk there, but it might take 30 minutes. (I usually drive.). This is a nice food hall with fast casual restaurants. You order your food and take it outside to eat at picnic tables. Bidwell is a real, sit-down restaurant inside that has nice food, too. There are a few local shops with speciality items inside, too. You can google the area, as there are many more restaurants outside the market to choose from.

Getting Around

A Street car stops at Benning Road and 16th ( a few feet before 16th West). It will take you to Union Station, where a metro subway station and Amtrak is. It might still be free! And, a major bus line, the X2, stops at 16 and Benning Road NE. Take this bus WEST towards Chinatown/Gallery Place or further on to Metro Center. You will need a Smartrip card. You can get one a the metro station.

And, there is a food court in the lower level with PLENTY of cheap eats options. There is also the Metro's Red Line. Take this line to Chinatown/Gallery Place. And, you can get off there or take that line south 1-2 stops to get off for many of the free museums.

This is the first company offering bike sharing in DC. The nearest location is a 3-5 minute walk from the apartment. There are now other companies that offer scooters (electric/use your free foot/not Vespas!) and bikes to pick up where ever and drop off as you wish. I haven't used these companies. So, you might need to google.com them.
