Places to stay in Wirksworth
The smaller of the two 18th century conversions, the Wash house being the other, but no less charming. Beautifully designed & warmly welcoming - a little boho bolt hole. Double bed is on a sleeping platform. Wet room, & kitchen facilities including microwave, toaster & kettle with access to fridge and freezer. Use of courtyard and garden and new this year our cosy garden room with record player, books and seats with sheepskin throws to chill out in.
Historic conversions within the wild beauty of the Peak District.
Wirksworth is a vibrant, arty market town with great pubs and restaurants. It boasts a number of independent shops including vintage and antique shops, delis and coffee shops. Within 2 minutes of open countryside.
  • Excellent little bolt hole in the beautiful Wirksworth. Nice touches like milk, chocolate and cereal and great advice about the best places in the town. Highly recommended.

  • Another great stay at the Brew House! We love this cosy and stylish space, and Wirksworth in general! Lots of lovely places to eat, drink and walk.

  • Wow. Where to start? Sue and Steve we’re away whilst we stayed (would love to meet you both next time!), so we were looked after by Steve’s daughter, Harriet, who was absolutely lovely. She really took care of us and made us feel very at home. On a particularly rainy evening, she lent us a DVD so we could curl up with a bottle of wine, out of the rain! We were so grateful! The minute you open the chunky gate to the property’s garden, you are completely blown away by what I refer to as - The Secret Garden. It’s a garden of my dreams, alive with beautiful plants, antiques and vintage charm. Up some steps, there’s even more garden and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s even given us some inspiration for our own garden! The outhouse is beautiful, the record player, book selection and decor really allows you to have your own private little space away from the world. The Brew House itself is stunning. A teeny tiny cottage which is so cosy. Even though Storm Dennis tried to put a dampener on things, we still felt so relaxed. The Brew House is a gorgeous vintage blot hole and we loved having a record player. We brought our own records but there was also a lovely selection there too! The bed was comfortable and warm, the bathroom is exactly what we needed. There were some lovely touches such as the soap, chocolates, coffee, biscuits and milk supplied, which we were very grateful for. Locally, you HAVE to visit The Feather Star! A stunning micro pub with delicious real ales, records to browse and buy and it was full of interesting and kind people who were all willing to have a chat. Everywhere is dog friendly which was great for us as we’d left our dog with family - it gave us the perfect opportunity to stroke ALL of the dogs! We particularly enjoyed the Hope and Anchor pub who served us a wonderful meal (far beyond what you’d expect from a pub!). We loved Mercia, which is just around the corner and we ended up having breakfast there most mornings! We’re vegetarian and they did a wonderful veggie breakfast!! The Heritage Museum is also worth a visit for those of you who enjoy local history! Le Minstrel gave us one of our favourite meals too, ask to sit downstairs as the chic decor is really pretty and the wine selection is perfect! The StarDisc is lovely - would highly recommend a walk up to it. The views are breathtaking! Only a stones throw away are the beautiful Cromford and Matlock, which we visited for walking and Scarthin Books is an absolute MUST for any book lovers! I honestly can’t recommend The Brew House more, it’s given us one of the best trips away we’ve ever had! Huge thank you to Sue, Steve and Harriet for allowing us to stay and giving us lots of wonderful memories! Xxx

  • We loved the cosy& quirky Brew House (and the orangutan in the garden!). We were made to feel very welcome& were showed/told us everything we needed to know on arrival. The bed was very comfy& there were some special touches which were appreciated (including some very tasty chocolates!). We really liked Wirksworth itself - a very nice town with great places to eat& drink & with very friendly people :)

  • Thank you for providing us with a wonderful stay. Steve and Sue are superb hosts & full of information on what is on offer in and around the village. The grounds are beautiful, even in the middle of winter, we had a very relaxing evening in the garden room before going out to dinner. We’ve never had as much fun getting in and out of bed since our childhood. All the best Ian & Sheila.

  • Fantastic little place right in the heart of Wirksworth! Steve was so friendly and accommodating - he gave us lots of tips about the area for our stay which really helped us make the most of our time there! We loved having a drink and listening to music in the cosy snug! We will definitely be staying again!

    Amy2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • A very cute & cosy stay in the centre of Wirksworth. Steve is a brilliant host and makes you feel welcome straight away. He gave some brilliant tips for the local area and we immediately realised we should have stayed for more than one night!

Quirky, beautiful & self contained holiday let. Cosy converted wash-house, set within grounds of stunning Georgian townhouse in arty, small market town. Gateway to the Peak District National Park. Double bed on sleeping platform. Fully equipped wet room. Microwave ,kettle & toaster with access to fridge and freezer. Use of garden, courtyard and new for this year our very special Garden room with record player , books and seats with sheepskin throws, to chill out in .
  • The wash house is amazing! Really quirky and cool interior and set up, and very cosy. We loved staying here. We didn’t find the bed particularly comfortable, but that could well be personal preference. It’s still top class accommodation. I imagine it’s even nicer in the summer when you can enjoy the gardens. The location is really handy for walking to pubs and local places to eat, or heading out to explore the Peak District. Steve was very welcoming and hospitable.

    Anastasia2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect stay in the cutest little bolt hole! Great use of the space with lovely decor, Steve was a great host who welcomed us back to Wirksworth for the second time. The Wash House is the perfect base for exploring the Peak District.

    Jessica2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend staying here, beautiful place with lots to do in the local area!

    Emily2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the wash house over new years eve and had such a magical time. We didn't know much about wirksworth before but totally fell in love with it. Fully recommend a few drinks in the featherstar pub or dinner at le mistal. The space itself was cosy, the bed was much closer to the ceiling than we expected but we didn't mind it, and we loved the special touches like having a record player in the room. Absolutely fabulous!

    Lizzie2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • All I can say is what a quirky wash room! If your looking for a cosy, snug and comfortable?..This is the place to stay. Steve was so warm welcoming and explained where we can eat, what to do, shops to go in to take a look at and places to go visit. The space of the wash room has been well thought, even the small finishing touches like milk and tea being supplied as a welcome touch. I would 100% be going back here to visit because it was so relaxing and we wish we could of stayed longer than 2 days.

    Martha2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Truly amazing ! One of the best stays we have had. Steve is a great host.

    Danny2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • A truly amazing place. I didn’t quite know what to expect before arriving but Steve and Sue are excellent hosts and made us feel welcomed and comfortable during the stay at their beautiful home. I stayed in the Wash House which was very cozy and very private. I can’t think of anything that was missing or could be improved on, everything was just right and the attention to details and little extra touches like artisan chocolates, record tokens, cereal and fresh milk were above and beyond.

    Andrew2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Very quirky little place. Access to mezzanine bedroom only for the slim and agile. Great fun though! Fantastic location and a great base to explore the Derbyshire Dales & Peak District. Great places to eat and drink right on your doorstep. Don’t miss the Feather Star, Le Mistral, the Hope and Anchor and the Northern Light cinema. Finally you must see the stunning views from the Star Disc and Black Rock!

  • We had a lovely stay at Brewells Barn! Lovely, clean, cosy place to lay our heads after a day's walking. Heated up nicely even in the February cold. Andrew was quick to answer our call and offer clear directions when we got lost finding the cottage. Thanks a lot :)

  • Smaller than in the photo's, ladder up to bedroom is almost vertical. The window in opener in bedroom is badly positioned as i walked into through night going to the toilet. Arrived late , penny had left a light on but didn't throw out light enough to find the key box . Could do with a curtain on door and window. Stairs from toilet very slippery ( i slipped and twisted my elbow, still in pain 3 day's later ). Wrong time of yr for me as i had to got straight to bed as it was that cold even after fan heater on for over an hour im sorry for the negativity but if id known id booked elsewhere.

  • The cottage is perfect for large groups of children and adults. Netflix helped keep the kids entertained as the weather was a bit hit and miss. There was everything you could possibly need with a very well equipped kitchen. Laura’s recommendation of the Boat Inn, Cromford was also great for a fab meal. We hope to be back!

    Sam2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Laura’s place is lovely. Very big and with lots of things to do in case of rain! Laura was very responsive throughout my planning which makes things really easy. I would definitely recommend.

  • A great barn for big groups with excellent communal space.

    Tim2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We were a group of 10 adults and 6 children (0-4). The space was ideal for us and there were proper cots and high chairs etc. Kitchen was well stocked with crockery etc and the separate lounge was perfect as a breakout space. Plenty of parking, lovely surroundings, and the Barley Mow in Kirk Ireton was excellent.

Our cabins are set in 12 acres of private land that we use for our heavy horses. We have three cabins and they all have their own hot tubs . Our site is a quiet site so no parties or loud noises. A place to relax and unwind.
We have three cabins and they are located down a drive surrounded by heavy horses and countryside. Great walks from the cabins and local pub The bear is only 20 min walk away, dog friendly
Our cabins are located in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside but only short car drives to local attractions like the Cromford canal, Crich tramway museum, Bakewell, chatsworth, Ashbourne , carsington waters, Alton towers to mention just a few
  • Lovely log cabin with hot tub. Great value for money and in a lovely location. Would definitely go again.

    Gabriella2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Second visit within the month, love this little retreat, will definitely be returning 😊

    Jason2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • My mum and I came to stay in one of Corinne’s cabins to relax and recharge. This was absolutely the perfect place to do this. The cabin was wonderful - snug, clean and well kitted out - but the hot tub was the most delightful addition. To lie there looking out at the beautiful horses and countryside in the midst of Storm Jorge was certainly something we won’t forget for a long time. Although we did not meet Corinne, she was a great host. Check in was seamless and there were some lovely welcome goodies. We hope to make this an annual thing!!

    Rosie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing cabin - cosy, clean and with some really thoughtful touches. The hot tub was fantastic and we were so close to lots of great attractions. Peaceful and a lovely place to escape to. We’d love to visit again.

    Mia2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute cabin with everything you could need. Hot tub was lovely for the winter evenings!

    Rachel2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely wooden lodge, with a fabulous hot tub. A great place to get away from a busy life. Very quiet location, but only a 10-15 minute walk to the local pub & not far to drive to Matlock & the Peak District. Excellent host too. Would definitely visit again.

    David2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cosy cabin, in a wonderful peaceful atmosphere. The hot tub did not disappoint, even in the slightly miserable weather. Corrine was very quick and helpful with all her responses with queries prior to booking. And has handy knowledge of local attractions, takeaways and taxis in case this should be needed. I wouldn’t hesitate to return for another mini break

    Sarah2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great cabin with everything you need, really close to local towns and villages with a nice pub near. Hot tub is really great and the host is very responsive to anything you may need, would highly recommend.

Our house is situated on the edge of Wirksworth in Millers Green, its 15 – 20 minute stroll into the centre of town either over the fields along a well-defined footpath or along the road and walking distance to Haarlem Mill. It is in a private cul-de- sac of just four houses so does not suffer from any traffic noise.
The guest bedroom which has one double bed is an excellent size with wonderful views of the rolling Derbyshire countryside. There is a wardrobe and drawers available for you to use, there is also tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The separate modern bathroom is for your private use, it has an electric shower, washbasin, toilet and bath. Our conservatory is lovely place to sit and watch the sun go down over the hills in the summer. Our garden is very colourful during the summer months and is constantly evolving, and provides another lovely place to sit and relax - bring your own wine and use our outdoor furniture for a ‘chill out’ evening. We will provide a simple breakfast suitable for vegetarians of juice, cereals, toast, fruit and yogurt along with preserves (homemade where possible), please let us know any other dietary requirements. You can also use our kitchen for the preparation and cooking of evening meals (by arrangement so were not falling over ourselves). If you wanted to eat in from the local take outs or have a simple supper or lunch of cheese, bread and wine etc. (there is a bakery & Co-Op in the center of Wirksworth which offer delightful treats) then we’ll make crockery, cutlery, glasses and space available for your use.
Wirksworth is a fairly unique and historic town full of odd nooks and crannies and the ancient and fascinating church of St Mary nestles in its small cathedral-like precinct in the centre. It has many independent shops and coffee / tea establishments. There are a number of fine pubs, some serving meals. There is also a splendid French style bistro (La Minstrel) which opens daily - advanced bookings are recommended for weekends. A little further afield many of the surrounding villages also offer additional fine dining. Wirksworth has a fuel filling station and a large Co-Op. Wirksworth also has its own heritage railway (The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway) who operate passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel railcars and occasionally steam locomotives. The town has well-dressings during Whitson week, and every September there is the unusual ceremony of 'Clypping', in which the church is encircled by the congregation holding hands around it. Wirksworth has the well-known Arts Festival, which happens over a September weekend. The Festival includes all forms of Art, with the Market Square the centre for music, dance and street acts while many of the houses around the village play host to many different forms of artistic expression. Tours and tour maps can be bought in the local shops during the festival. Being on the edge of the Peak District National Park and the White Peak there are many fine walks available to suit all abilities and a number can be done from our front door. Carsington Reservoir circular track is within a 30 minute walk of our home as is the traffic free High Peak trail which is suitable for walking and cycling (cycle hire is available locally). Famous Dovedale with its ‘stepping stones’ is only a short drive away. For the more energetic the gritstone edges and wild moors of the Dark Peak are only a 50 minute drive away. The historic town of Bakewell, the stately homes of Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House and Kedleston Hall are all within 30 minutes by car. Matlock and Matlock Bath with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham a short 10 minute drive. The National Stone Centre, Derbyshire Eco Centre and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre also have their homes in Wirksworth. We are also with easy reach of a number of local wedding venues including Haarlem Mill (10 min walking distance), Shottle Hall and Alison House among others.

Wirksworth is a small market town on the edge of The Derbyshire Peak District, an ideal location for walking, cycling and other outdoor pursuits. The cottage, originally a quarryman's dwelling, has been fully refurbished and is maintained to a high standard. The accommodation: double and single bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, shower room and TV lounge. Outside is a decked sitting area. Guests also have use of a croquet lawn, boules court and parking in the garden of Babington House next door.
  • Really lovely little cottage .... spread over 4 floors everything is sparkling clean, pretty new, well thought out and very well equipped. Its located in a lovely little village, top tip: There is an ace cafe called the sour cow, and there is a lovely quirky little real ale micro brewery place too. Ann very welcoming and flexible with checking in. You can park off road in her driveway. Would stay again

  • A lovely cottage with beautiful original features. David and Anne are great hosts and extremely welcoming. We all had a fantastic time.

  • A delightful and comfortable cottage in a very convenient location for wirksworth and all amenities. Warm, clean and well equipped .

  • A really lovely cottage in a beautiful location. Gorgeous views from the bedroom windows over pretty Wirksworth. Exceptional value for money.

  • Babington Cottage is a cosy, quirky little cottage on a rather steep hill in Wirksworth, a beautiful town in Derbyshire. It’s very well looked after, and very clean. It’s especially cosy on those cold, wet and windy winter nights; perfect for curling up with a book and reading. Anne and David are very friendly and welcoming, and have made the cottage the perfect country getaway.

    Clare2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage. Well-equipped with everything perfectly placed for a comfortable stay. And everything was spotless. The place is incredibly toasty, if a little too hot, but the heating system is very easy to control and turn down the temperature. We will definitely visit again, and the place was perfectly suited for a family - with Anne kindly setting up a lovely double futon for one of our daughters.

    Marianne2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time. The cottage is perfect and Wirksworth is lovely.

    Sam2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a delightful self-contained cottage with picturesque views over Wirksworth and the hills beyond. It was spotlessly clean and tidy and has a fully equipped kitchen with all you need. It is just a 2 minuute walk from the town centre and has its own parking area for guests - a real boon in Wirksworth as parking is scarce. Recommended.

  • We spent 4 days at the Forge. It was clean and warm, very cosy with the wood burner on. The bedrooms and bathroom were great. The kitchen is a good size although not very much worktop space. We loved Wirksworth, it is a quirky place worth exploring. We had a meal in the Hope and Anchor on our first night which was good and took part in their pub quiz where we were made welcome. We also visited other local pubs including the Lime Kiln, Serious Head, Royal Oak and the Red Lion. We were pleasantly surprised by the great atmosphere in some of them. We particularly loved watching the rugby World Cup final at the Lime Kiln , with a visiting French 20 piece band who all played our national anthem, Swing Low and other tunes. They were very enthusiastic in their support! We visited Bakewell and had a nine mile walk along the Monsal trail and back through Ashbury in the Water. Did another walk in Matlock under the cable car and up to the High Tor, and finally a walk around the Black rocks just down the road. LE Mistral restaurant was good, we had a table in the cellar which was atmospheric. We managed to get a Tesco delivery for our shopping and parked our car 100 yards down the road in a free car park behind the Wheatsheaf pub. Overall our stay was fantastic with plenty of things to do nearby and friendly locals. Paul was very quick to respond to our queries and we would like to thank him for our stay.

  • Homely, comfortable, well appointed cottage and so well located in its private garden in the middle of a delightful town, which in itself, is full of surprises. We had a wonderful week and wished we could have stayed much longer.

  • An ideal place to stay, very secluded with a lovely atmosphere. It would be easy to stay in all day as very comfortable with all that you could want. Lovely furniture, beds and decorations. Wirksworth has a great Heritage Centre, Church, cafes and a micro pub in front of the forge (no noise etc) as well as other pubs. Nearby to lots of attractions. Great welcome basket. Had a great time.

  • This is a great place that won’t disappoint, it’s much bigger than the pictures let on. Very clean and Paul was very quick to respond to any questions I had. The little pub just outside the gate was great a real gem and served great beer. We had dinner in the French restaurant, this had great service and were great with my little girl 3yo. Great food would def recommend. We would go back for sure.

  • Wonderful cosy cottage. We had a fabulous weekend. Location really good to feel slightly away from the business of Matlock bath. Great walks located around and easy access to Matlock and Matlock bath. We walked into Matlock bath but it is really easy to grab a 10 minute bus if you don’t fancy a 1 hour walk. Hosts are super helpful and added lovely little touches to make you feel really welcome. The pictures do not do this place justice it is just what we where looking for a cosy, romantic little break in country. Thank you xx

Tower Cottage is a detached, 3 storey stone cottage for up to 4 guests in the heart of Wirksworth with its rich history and beautiful situation. * In light of the current situation, please rest assured that we have very high cleanliness standards and leave 24 hours between bookings for a deep clean and thorough airing. Wirksworth is a quiet town hence we are still taking bookings for those who want to get away from it all. Please do get in touch if you have any other questions. *
When we first set our eyes on the cottage we fell in love with it. We christened it Tower Cottage as everyone who has seen it, says it's like a little tower... which it is. The cottage is in a beautiful & quiet location tucked away up 'The Dale', which is one of the oldest parts of Wirksworth. It is rare to find such peace in a town dwelling, with virtually no traffic in the vicinity and yet just minutes away, the activities and amenities of a bustling market town. We don't know much about the history of the cottage yet but it was probably a miner's or quarry man's cottage, like many of those around it. It has been lovingly restored to modern standards, with double glazing & good insulation, whilst retaining original features. We have decorated the cottage with a mix of old and new and reflected the colours and images of nature and the stunning Derbyshire Dales and Peaks. Please note the second bedroom is on the ground floor next to the living room and the main bedroom is 2 flights of stairs away on the second floor and so children sleeping downstairs will be some way from you. The second flight of stairs are steep and have a tight turn and so may prove tricky if you have mobility issues. Wirksworth is famous for its quirky alleyways, jittys and ginnels - a network of walkways that run between the houses, perched perilously on the edges of the old quarry workings. Many say 'The Dale' area reminds them of a Cornish fishing village but without the sea. So, come and visit our cottage and explore for yourselves and let the stresses of life just slip away!
The market town of Wirksworth ('The Gem of The Peak') is of considerable historical interest and is a popular location for the exploration of the Peak District. Its uniqueness and friendliness make it one of the most appealing and fascinating towns in the area. There are fabulous walks from the door, cycle trails, a leisure centre with swimming pool and climbing wall, individual local shops, farmers market on the first Saturday of each month, restaurants, tea rooms, bistro, several public houses, an independent cinema and a heritage centre. Every year at Spring Bank holiday, Wirksworth holds its annual Well Dressing ceremonies and carnival. In September the town celebrates the talents of local, national and international artists, along with performers of all descriptions, when it holds its prestigious annual Arts Festival. Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is Derbyshire's longest heritage railway and operates passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel rail cars. An eclectic range of events run throughout the year in Wirksworth. Many of these take place at the Town Hall but also at the Star Disc (a representation in granite of the Northern Constellation), on a hill in Stoney Wood, near the cottage. With easy access to attractions in the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District, Wirksworth is also convenient for Cromford, Matlock, Ashbourne, Buxton and Derby.
  • Fabulous little space, it has everything needed for a cosy, comfortable and interesting stay. I would definitely recommend. :)

  • Lovely quirky house. Ideally located for local walks and access to town. Warm, spotlessly clean. Loved the eco-friendly cleaning products. Well stocked kitchen. Comfy sofas and fab log burning stove. Really quiet. Great for a relaxed weekend!

    Natalie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic stay! We stayed in January and had the use of the gorgeous woodburner but look forward to visiting again in the summer as the terrace gardens are absolutely stunning.. The decor throughout is really nice, and there’s absolutely everything I could think of needing. Lots of the bottles about the house are refillable eco (e.g. washing up liquid) presumably from the local zero waste shop, which was an added bonus as helped me feel I wasn’t adding to being too wasteful..! As per the listing, the stairs up to the main bedroom are a bit winding and wouldn’t be appropriate if you had any mobility issues, however the stairs to the bathroom are standard stairs and fine for anyone staying on the ground floor room. The upstairs bedroom is also relatively cool compared to the rest of the house, there’s an oil filled radiator which made it toasty, but if you were arriving late I’d suggest trying to arrive an hour or so before going to sleep just to warm it up a touch. We parked absolutely fine (Audi estate), and noted that there was plenty of parking around Wirksworth within 3 of 4 minutes walk even if we hadn’t have managed to park outside. The access road is a little tight, perfectly fine for any normal cars but vans/yank trucks/campers would probably have an issue. Wirksworth itself is lovely, plenty of cafes pubs and restaurants in under five mins walk.. perfect location for a week’s holiday or weekend away!

  • A lovely cottage in a great location, Karen made us feel very welcome and the extra touches made the place truly special. I would thoroughly recommend Tower Cottage.

  • The perfect little home away from home. The bed was really comfortable and the cottage was nice and spacious. Great kitchen with real pans and cooking equipment. Often I've been disappointed by other 'self-catering' AirBnBs but this one was great. Had everything we needed and the town of Wirksworth was delightful. We particularly enjoyed going to the Feather Star pub, Northern Lights cinema and brunch at Mercia. Did a great walk from the house up to Middleton and Black Rocks.

  • Sarah and Mal's place is a lovely wee house in a lovely wee town! Perched on a wee hill, we got a wonderful view across Wirksworth - definitely worth the wee climb. With only a 5 minute walk (downhill!) into town and all it's amenities, it's a great place to stay. Sarah and Mal are fantastic hosts - only too happy to give you recommendations of places to explore, shop, eat, drink (and find firewood!) and to offer thoughtful touches such as a pint of milk in the fridge for our arrival (and a chilled bottle of fizz!). The house was spotlessly clean and tidy with clear instructions on where to find everything we could need. In particular, the kitchen was well-equipped with good quality pans and sharp knives, something that in our experience is usually lacking from holiday rentals. We also loved the luxurious bathroom with both shower and a bathtub - in the past, we've found most places tend to save space and just put a shower in, but for us a relaxing bath at the end of a hard day's holidaying is a must!

    Pauline2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely gorgeous house and great communication from Sarah + Mal. Would definitely come back. Thanks!

    Christopher2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • Had the most wonderful, relaxing weekend at Sarah and Mal's gorgeous 'Wee House'. The most spotlessly clean Airbnb I have ever stayed at, beautifully furnished (the bed was so comfy, the bath was a delight and the wood burner was a perfect addition), and so well equipped with some lovely little extras - such as the tea tray with cookies, suggestions for walks and the fire all packed with wood and ready to be lit. Having recently stayed in a truly appalling Airbnb in Brooklyn, NY, this Airbnb was the perfect antidote and somewhere I would gladly come back to again and again!

    Lucy2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little house in a perfect location for exploring places nearby. The hill up to the house was steeper than expected but after a few times up and down, it's well worth it. Great little welcoming touches and had everything we needed. Mal and Sarah were great with meeting us and recommending local sights etc. The Northern Lights Cinema is well worth a visit too!

Great walks from the doorstep, Ideally situated for all the Peak District has to offer, Matlock, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Dovedale, Eyam all a short drive away and Carsington Water just over a mile.

The ground floor having the kitchen and bathroom, the first floor the living room and the top floor both bedrooms. A beautiful small market town, nestled in the Derbyshire Dales. A bohemian town inhabited by many artists. Wirskworth has a wonderful feel, a warm friendly town with a labyrinth of roads and alleys, beautiful walks with wonderful views. Great independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. Perfectly situated for all the Peak District has to offer. A very useful website is, Go Wirksworth, useful information with regards what is happening in the town at the time of your visit.
  • Very stylish yet quaint and authentic cottage in the city of a beautiful little town

  • What an incredible experience staying at Number 10, where do I start?! :) Jane’s communication prior to our arrival was really good, her helpful instructions put us at ease knowing exactly how we would access the property and how we would operate everything when we arrived. She was also so kind in having the property ready for us to access 5 hours prior to check in - something we hadn’t even asked for, she simply did this out of her own kindness. When we arrived we were blown away by all of her thoughtful touches - she had left a home-baked cake for us to tuck into along with some fresh flowers and a welcome note and some locally sourced filter coffee which was divine! It was also my birthday and she had put up a ‘Happy Birthday’ banner in the living room which really touched me. The wood was stocked up nicely for the log burner - which was by far my favourite part of the property - the log burner really set the mood for a wonderful stay. We had brought board games with us so we settled ourselves in front of the fire each night and played some good old fashioned games :) The bedding and the towels smelt so wonderful and fresh, everything was also just immaculately clean throughout the property. Number 10 is really well situated for trips into the Peak District. We spent a day in Bakewell walking through the woodlands and then on our last day we spent the day in Buxton where again we did some walking and took some epic photos of the countryside :) Overall we honestly had the best time and I would stay at Number 10 again in a heartbeat. We can’t thank Jane enough for being the most wonderful host :)

  • Excellent. Whilst we booked at very short notice, Jane still found time to leave a bottle of bubbly (we had a birthday to celebrate), fabulous ground coffee, oat milk, and crisps. Jane's home is immaculate. Warm and cosy and a hop, skip and jump away from the Feather Star ale house and Le Mistral, and even closer to the fascinating medieval church. Wonderful. Thank you.

  • This is a lovely cosy house in a perfect spot to explore Wirksworth and the rest of the Peak District. Highly recommended.

    Julia2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a hidden gem, in a great location! It was clean and tidy, full of quirky little bits and bobs, personal touches galore, real character! Great communication from start to finish. Fabulous little touches - such as a personal note on arrival, fresh roses (Valentines weekend) organic vegan wine and oat milk, freshly ground local coffee (which was absolutely delicious) a bottle of cloudy lemonade and everything we needed... the log burner was a cosy treat in the cold and rain! Would definitely recommend this cottage x thank you Jane x

    Lindsey2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage in the very heart of Wirksworth exceeded our expectations. It was beautifully prepared and spotlessly clean. Jane left some nice touches and responds very quick to any communications. There is so much to do in the town and area , that we are already thinking of returning

    Nigel2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Really fabulous little cottage in central location in Wirksworth village. Very cutsie was very well decorated with stylish finishes and touches throughout. The cottage is very well equipped and has everything you’d need for a great stay. We stayed two nights over the weekend, the bed was very comfortable, amenities all worked fine, the host had left great information about the cottage and local area ideas and restaurant options etc. We loved being able to explore Wirksworth and walk to local pubs, cafes and little shops and also do local walks onto high peak trail from there. Short car ride to Matlock and also definitely check out the little local cinema as we did. Would definitely recommend for a couple or friend stay with two bedrooms on top floor. To note you did need to go down two flights of stairs to bathroom which was no issue for us but to be aware if you are not as mobile to do this particularly during the night.

  • Right in the heart of the village, this beautiful cottage was a delight to stay in over Christmas. Extraordinary eye for detail and very thoughtful touches. We were greeted by the yummiest cake, coffee and a decorated Christmas tree. Spotlessly clean and fabulous communication with Jane throughout. Every bit as lovely as the pictures and more besides.

Sunny bungalow is my home available whilst I'm away from base. You’ll find everything you need. Large double with ensuite, second double with separate bathroom. Well equipped kitchen. Pets by arrangement. Cycle storage in garage, parking on driveway. Wirksworth, busy market town in Peak District. Enjoy craft beer pubs, restaurants, great coffee shops plus amazing 52 seater cinema. Carsington Reservoir, High Peak and Tissington trails are on doorstep. Chatsworth and Haddon Hall- short drive away.
The garden backs onto open fields with direct access to footpaths for great, local walks. The house is well appointed, light and airy with two dining spaces and a wood burning stove for cosy nights in. Wifi, TV, DVD player and CD plus vinyl deck and albums. Two bathrooms both with good sized showers.
People who visit Wirksworth very often want to move here. It is unique and catches the imagination offering a rural setting with good access to great facilities. The sense of friendly community is often remarked upon. Like cycling? There are plenty of great routes from the doorstep for roadies and mountain bikers. Visit Carsington Reservoir, National Trust properties + Chatsworth, the famous Bakewell Market and pudding shop, nearby Ashbourne plus walks and trails galore. I love the fact that you are so near town with plenty of things to do and people to chat to but surrounded by nature with plenty of birds in my garden. Leave the car behind and walk into town and enjoy everything on offer.
  • We had a lovely couple of days at Vicky's place! Wirksworth is a super little town full of history and creative people. We would love to come again! Thanks Vicky

  • Homely, cosy and so comfy. Dogs loved the garden and huge field beyond.......bliss.

  • A bright, airy, clean and comfortable bungalow in a perfect location for exploring Wirksworth and surrounding areas. A great place as a base for walking and also within very easy reach of all the pubs and cafes. We loved the wood burner - fabulous and cosy after a day walking in the snow!

    Ann2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Vicky's home is delightful - very cosy, clean, and comfortable, with great sound systems in the kitchen and living room! Everything is finished beautifully. e.g. lovely wooden flooring, fab showers and we really enjoyed a cosy evening watching DVDs in front of the wood burner. Great communication from Vicky - a super-accommodating, lovely host - thank you Vicky!

    Lucy2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in Vicky’s lovely bungalow.....so much so that by day 2 we were rebooking! It’s clean, spacious, light, lovely views, tastefully decorated/ furnished, comfortable beds, a fabulous location- under 10 minutes’ walk to the shops , well equipped. We couldn’t fault it! Thank you!

    Ruth2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful Christmas at this property. On Christmas Eve we were able to walk into the town, do some shopping and have couple of drinks . On Christmas day we went hiking and came back to a warm cosy fire , dinner and a few silly games. The house is spacious, well stocked with everything you should need. It was a great place with a dog as there is access over a field ladder onto a field. Dogs do need to be kept on a lead as sheep are grazing. It is quicker to go into town from the field than by road. Thank you Vicky.

    Judy2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second stay in Vicky's lovely, comfy, cosy bungalow and we enjoyed this stay just as much as the first time. The place is in a lovely spot with great views and access to a myriad of walks. Wirksworth is a lovely little market town with plenty of pubs, restaurants and cafes and little shops where you can pretty much get whatever you need. Vicky is a super host very easy to communicate with and very accommodating. We'll definately be back again - thanks Vicky!

Georgian artisan house, quirky layout and original beams throughout, in the centre of this small thriving Derbyshire town. Ideally placed for exploring Derbyshire. Two spacious bedrooms, one family bathroom plus additional toilet on ground floor, good sized kitchen with aple room for the table and four chairs, very comfortable sitting-room.
Built in approximately 1800 the house was originally an artisan row-cottage at the front, with another house added at the rear sometime later. Following standing empty for four years, the house has been lovingly restored and is a real Tardis - the front bedroom ((15' x 13') has exposed vaulted beams and a four-poster bed, and the second bedroom, on the top floor, sits under the exposed beams of the sloping ceilings, with pretty blue and white bedlinen. In the warm and comfortable living-room, there are two sofas and two armchairs. The spacious kitchen-diner is well equipped and has a large table, dresser, dish-washer, washing machine. The house sits in the heart of old Wirksworth, close by the beautiful St. Mary's Church, and the restored Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, yet only minutes from public footpaths into the surrounding hills and dales.
Wirksworth is a lively and fun small town set amid Derbyshire hills and dales, and is in the heart of prime walking and cycling routes. Many of the pubs have music evenings, some serve good food, and, like the cinema and all of the shops, they are independent! Wirksworth hosts a Book Festival each year, at the beginning of April, an Open Gardens trail in June, and an Art & Architecture Festival in early September - see GoWirksworth.com or Destination Wirksworth.co.uk
  • Val is a superb host and her place is outstanding! All aspects of our stay at Number 29 were exactly as described, it is extremely clean and the house is equipped with everything you could need with Val providing many thoughtful touches for our arrival. It is the perfect location for everything from cycling, walking and the various shops, pubs & cafes in Wirksworth.

    Karen2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Nr 29 is old and quirky - a bit like us! We loved it. It has been lovingly looked after and restored to make for a beautiful homely space full of charm and character. A real home from home. It is just off the market place in the centre of Wirksworth, close by pubs and restaurants should you want to eat out in the evenings. We didn't - having been out all day, we wanted to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the house in the evenings and we cooked each evening. The kitchen is fully equipped to make an evening meal and there are plenty of artisan shops in Wirksworth and the surrounding area to buy fresh local produce - lovely! The house was clean, the beds were comfortable, the kitchen and lounge were perfect for sitting with a few bottles of red in the evenings after dinner, chatting. We had a great weekend - we'd move in if we could! Wirksworth is a lovely town to wander and explore. The church opposite is a real gem. The town is also located close to many leading attractions - Chatsworth, Crich, Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Hardwick Hall and Carsington are all within easy reach as are many fabulous walks as you are right on the High Peak Trails. Outstanding!

    Jayne2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful quaint home, in a town full of hills and dales. Great walks and pubs.

    Joanne2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Val's place is a lovely cottage in the centre of Wirksworth which, by the way, is a charming town. There are lots of nice walks that you can do from the middle of the town and Val has the maps to help you find them! Val's house is comfortable, clean, spacious....a real home away from home. Val was a pleasure to deal with. Always quick to reply and flexible with check in/out times. In short, Wirksworth is lovely and a great base to explore the south Peak District and Val's place is the perfect place to stay.

    Iain2019-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • From initial enquiry through to check out Val’s place was fabulous. The house was cosy, comfortable and really convenient for eating out in the town as well as visiting the attractions of the area. A five minute walk through a delightful church yard took us to a lovely French restaurant, a bistro and a pub, all of which I would recommend. A super stay. Thank you Val.

    Katrina2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great house in a prime location, very clean and charming décor. Very well equipped and handy for superb walking/outdoors in the nearby Peak District.

    Julian2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Val's house is situated close to the centre of Wirksworth and was very comfortable with good facilities. She is very good on the communication front and replies to queries very promptly. The provision of maps and info about the local area was excellent and the location makes it a great base to explore the Peak District. The house has lots of art works and plenty of books. Wirksworth has an interesting range of pubs and live music. Matlock is a short distance away if you want larger shops, we tended to just shop locally. We would certainly book Val's house again without hesitation. Thank you Cal. Phil and Gina

  • Val really is a super host! She offered us a warm welcome and provided many thoughtful touches such as milk in the fridge when we arrived. Her comfortable, spacious, beautifully decorated cottage is an excellent base for visiting the Peak District. Wirksworth is an interesting town with local amenities and well worth exploring. We hope to return!

  • Tiina’s idyllic cottage is the perfect escape from the every day hustle and bustle of life. The cottage exceeded all expectations and from the moment we walked in, we knew we’d already dislike having return the key back into the lock box! The kitchen was extremely well equipped for cooking a lovely meal and the bed was extremely comfy! We cannot wait to return and very glad we stumbled across Tiina’s beautiful little escape.

17 The Lanes, a sympathetically refurbished ex miners cottage, provides character with modern convenience. It has a cosy lounge with log burner, well fitted kitchen and a peaceful, secure garden for relaxing with a glass of wine or local beer. Dog friendly (£25 extra) with fabulous walking and cycling from the door step. Situated in Bolehill, a short walk from Wirksworth centre, it's superbly situated for exploring the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District. 4 Miles from Matlock,
Wirksworth is a small market town on the edge of the Peak District. Nestled in the Bolehill area high above the town, 17 The lanes is perfectly located for exploring the quirks of Wirksworth and delights of the surrounding Peak District and Derbyshire Dales. There is fabulous walking and cycling from the doorstep. This is a perfect location for enjoying all sorts of outdoor activities or just to use as a base to explore the area. Matlock, Ashbourne, Bakewell, Haddon Hall and Chatsworth are all within very easy reach and Carsington Water is only a mile away. The high peak trail is on our doorstep along with glorious walking and cycling. There is also secure storage for bikes or other sports equipment in a brick store directly opposite the cottage. Wirksworth punches well above its small size in terms of its thriving community and many activities. The town’s welcome sign proclaims it the ‘gem of the peak’ and its not wrong. The cottage itself offers a comfortable size lounge with log burner (logs provided), free WiFi, Freeview TV with built in DVD player, Netflix and a selection of DVD’s, games and books. Maps and walking books are also provided. Dogs are very welcome but we do ask that they are not allowed on the furniture or beds. We charge £25 extra for dogs. Parking is available at the cottage for one vehicle. Please note that the cottage is built into a hillside so that the garden is accessed from the first floor across a small footbridge. There are drops to retain two sides of the garden from the cottage but these are well fenced with fencing approximately 3'6" high. It is not suitable for wheel chair access.
The words quirky, different and special are often used to describe Wirksworth. A fascinating small town on the Southern edge of the Peak District where the geology and landscape have shaped its character and its people for generations. On a Royal visit, Prince Charles once referred to the town as ‘Quirksworth’. Having had an industrious past and mixed fortunes relating to the industry available, Wirksworth is now known for its independent shops and cafes, annual arts festival, bustling music scene and dozens of artists and creatives who live and work in the town. The town is nestled at the head of the Ecclesbourne Valley surrounded by beautiful countryside with delightful walks and stunning views. The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway (Derbyshires longest heritage railway) is a stone's throw away.
  • Sue & Helen's cottage is a perfect spot from which to explore the Peaks. Their place is homely, clean and modern inside and they communicate well prior to arrival. The special touches (few groceries and a bottle of plonk!) in place on arrival were so thoughtful. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

    Samuel2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing place in a beautiful location! Sue is a wonderful host, who provided some very thoughtful welcoming gifts. Would highly recommend and we will hopefully be back again soon!

    James2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely place. Perfect for four people and in a place surrounded by walks. Sue was so quick at replying. Would recommend to everyone.

    Toni May2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at this well furnished and newly modernised cottage. Sue had thought of everything that we could have needed. The area is full of interesting walks and spectacular places to visit. The reason we chose Bolehill was it’s proximity to Chatsworth which we visited in all its Xmas glory but there were so many other other things to do as well documented in the cottage literature. The spot was quiet but not isolated and we would not hesitate to return should we be in Derbyshire again.

    Annie2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • From initial booking to checking out, all was simple and Sue was so helpful. Great extra touches as met at the cottage with a coffee, lots of extra touches left by Sue which were a lovely surprise and very appreciated. The cottage was spotlessly clean, warm and cosy and was a total home from home. Hope to return again soon.

Set in the conservation area, this 18th century stable, looks out on a lovely cobbled courtyard, and has a private garden. This small, quirky property is located down the side of the main house. Wirksworth has a good range of pubs, restaurants and shops. The town is just a minute walk down a steep hill. Cyclists can store their bikes in the shed. Dogs are not allowed, sorry. There is no bath - but there is a shower. Free parking is available in the town.
Downstairs has a useful kitchen corner with microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge. There is a small dining table, and a sitting area with TV, DVD, CD and radio facilities, with a few CDs and DVDs - but you might like to bring your favourite CDs and DVDs. Upstairs has a small but cosy double bed and a shower room with toilet and wash basin. The exposed sandstone walls give the bedroom a special charm, and the room is approached up a narrow but lovely oak staircase. There is an outside lockable shed for storing your bikes.
Greenhill is a well known and much loved part of Wirksworth, but quite a climb! The Star DIsc, at the top of the hill, is a wonderful installation, showing the main stars. Also there are some good walks that start at the top of the hill.
  • This ws a great stay. Colin was hospitable and well organised. He's done a brilliant job with a small space - everything you need is thought of and to hand. The place was neat, smart, and a superb stay in the heart of Wirksworth, in a location full of character plus convenience. Recommended.

  • A charming little self sufficient converted stable on a quiet cobbled hill in Wirksworth. It has all the internal amenities you would require, and the location is very good for access to shops, restaurants, and local bus service. Colin is a very helpful and friendly host, but non invasive. Enjoyed my stay.

It is a great place to stay if you want a walking or cycling holiday or if you prefer a more leisurely break, taking in the stunning views of the Peak District with plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants.
Open plan downstairs area, with sofa, chairs, TV, stereo and open fire. Dining / Kitchen area, with seating for 6 and well equipped kitchen, including dishwasher and washing machine. Master bedroom with double bed and views on two sides Twin bedroom with 2 single beds and views on two sides Bathroom with bath and shower over the bath 2 Parking spaces on the driveway Small patio area, accessed through garage (where bikes can be stored)
Wirksworth is a wonderful market town, with a number of pubs, a wine bar, delis and cafes. There is also a good selection of useful shops, antique shops, clothes and walking shops. There is an independent cinema, showing some great films and serving tapas. The town is very friendly and there are often events going on in the town. The heritage railway station is a 5 minute walk away and a hit if you have young children. There are plenty of walks from the cottage and there is so much to see and do in the area.
  • Charming cottage in a great location, Tamsin was very helpful with information and suggestions for our stay which we appreciated. Lovely and cosy with comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. The living room area needs a bit of thought to make it more comfortable but otherwise it is very nice with some stylish touches. Wirksworth is delightful to wander around and a good base from which to explore the area, with several good cafes and restaurants and quirky gift shops.

  • This is a lovely, quirky place, with great amenities, and in a superb location. Nice to have the welcome pack and flowers. The Old Curriers Shop is more spacious than it appears in the listing. Hope to return sometime.

  • A warm welcome and thoughtful touches combined with brilliant location made this a great place to stay.

  • Looking for a sympathetically modernized historic home-away-from home while exploring the southern peaks and industrial history of Derbyshire? Look no further. This cottage has it all, ranging from off-street parking, to laundry facilities, to a well-supplied kitchen for cooking. It is located minutes from many restaurants, three groceries, and more fine walks than I was able to accomplish during my week-long stay. Each amenity is carefully thought of and provided, including enormous, soft bath towels. Tamsin is a perfect hostess - responsive, cheerful, and completely unobtrusive. I am looking forward to my next opportunity to stay.

My house is just a short stroll into the great little town of Wirksworth where so many things happen.... good pubs, Italian and French food, lanes to explore, 52 seater cinema, not to mention Farmers' markets and the famous Festival in September. Come and see!
The double room is small but with use of your own shower room and toilet, good rates for single people (£30) as well. I will provide cereals and toast for a simple breakfast or you can get something more elaborate in town. Good coffee shops and cafes. There is the indoor space and outdoor space to enjoy as well. I'm happy to offer advice and suggestions if you need any help.
  • Vicky is a great host. Ery friendly with lots of great advice on places to visit and where to eat. The location is excellent and the town is so pretty. Highly recommended!

  • The house is in a really nice location. Inside it is clean, tidy and homely and the host was very helpful with advising on getting round the local town too. Would stay again.

  • Vicky is very thoughtful and answers queries quickly. Her place is in a lovely setting backing on to beautiful countryside with a short but pretty walk into Wirksworth. She is very accommodating and had made very tasty bread and black currant jam which I had for breakfast. You couldn’t ask for a more interesting and helpful host. I’ll come back when I’m in the area again.

  • Warm and friendly welcome - perfect for me and my large hound.

    Veronica2017-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Vicky's place was excellent! I was welcomed by Vicky on arrival with a cup of tea and was shown where everything in the house was that I may need during my stay. The room was very clean and comfortable and the town of Wirksworth itself is lovely. Great views and interesting little alleys to explore. I was attending a wedding reception in Matlock and Wirksworth provided a perfect base. The room is good value for money and Vicky is a great host, I recommend it!

A beautiful cosy cottage just 2 minutes walk from the centre of Wirksworth whilst located at the edge of some of the best walks in the Peaks. We have a walled front garden for the morning sun and an enclosed rear garden for evening barbecues and views over the hills. Inside is comfortable with wifi, TV with recorder (and some saved films). The log-burner, rolltop bath and country kitchen add to the charm.
We've added as much kitchen equipment as we find we need when we stay; plenty of pots and pans, a hand blender, toaster, various implements (corkscrew included!) and we leave a welcome tray for you with some tea, coffee and biscuits so you can relax as soon as you arrive. Fresh towels and bedding, warm duvets and comfy mattresses make for a peaceful night's sleep for all guests. There's a washer/dryer in case you want to do your laundry, a freezer too in the outhouse and gas central heating and unlimited hot water throughout the cottage.
Wirksworth truly is the Jewel of the Peak; a great town with pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars, a recently-opened arthouse cinema and with plenty of curiosity shops, a lead-mining museum tucked away, a steam railway and not a single high-street chain. Should you choose to, you can get all you need from the town for your holiday without using the car. Carsington Water and other attractions are only a short cycle or drive away, with major towns and attractions just a stone's throw (Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne, Chatsworth House, even Alton Towers for the brave). The leisure centre, a short walk from Matchbox at the bottom of the town has a gym, pool and a climbing wall.
  • We had a lovely stay...really cosy....near to pubs shops etc....fantastic cottage....thank you

  • We had a lovely relaxing stay, it's a lovely homely, cosy and comfortable cottage that had everything we needed. It's a short steep walk from the village centre. The village itself is great, lovely cafes and pubs. We used it as a base to visit Ashbourne, Peak Wildlife Park, Buxton and Bakewell. We'll come again.

    Alan2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little cottage in perfect walking distance to the centre. Really great location. I loved that the cottage had lots of old charm and character. It was also extremely warm and cosy. Although it's a bath with a hand held shower there was plenty of hot water to go around. Roll top bath was lovely! Beds super comfy too. Great stay.

    Charlotte2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was a second stay in Matchbox cottage. Such a cosy cottage and very convenient for the town, which is just a few minutes walk, and the beautiful Derbyshire countryside.

    Caroline2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • Came to Matchbox for our first family holiday and it was perfect. A travel cot and high chair were set out making our life much easier. The cottage had everything we needed, even provided bubble bath which was needed after long walks in the Derbyshire Dales. Would definitelycome again.

Local places of interest include the historic towns of Matlock, Cromford, and Wirksworth. Bakewell and Chatsworth House are a short drive away.

Honeysuckle Cottage is located in the popular Peak District National Park in the pretty village of Middleton-by-Wirksworth. Close by you will find the High Peak Trail and Carsington Water with the towns of Wirksworth, Cromford, Matlock and Matlock Bath nearby. Walkers and cyclists have a choice of paths (many straight from the door) offering routes to suit every ability and there are a number of picturesque villages to explore. A couple of miles away at Carsington Water there are water sports and cycle hire. Cromford nestles in the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site and is home to the Arkwright Museum. There is a shopping outlet at Masson Mill and at Arkwright’s Mill there are numerous craft, gift and antique outlets as well as the working mills showing how the textiles were produced years ago. Heritage enthusiasts will enjoy the steam railways in nearby Wirksworth and Matlock whilst there is a Tramway Museum in nearby Crich. In Middleton itself is the Steeple Grange Light Railway and, situated on the High Peak Trail, Middleton Top Engine House is a preserved steam engine formerly used to haul trains up the 700-yard long 1-in-8 gradient of Middleton Incline. While living at Mountain Cottage in Middleton during the bitter winter of 1918-19, D.H. Lawrence wrote the short story A Wintry Peacock (published in 1921), which is set in the immediate locality. Black Rocks are a a gritstone out crop a short walk away and there are a number of limestone crags that leave climbers spoilt for choice. A short drive away you will find stately homes and gardens such as Chatsworth House, Hardwick hall and Haddon Hall to name but a few. The market town of Wirksworth is a mile away with good shops and eateries and Middleton itself has 2 pubs both about 500 yards away.

The mill yard cottage has been in the family for many years. We totally redecorated it and placed it up on Airbnb October 2017. Fabulous 4 star quirky luxury. 5 minute walk from the centre of Wirksworth, very quite & peaceful at night. A new double mattress has been installed April 2019 - Due to mixed reviews from guest's on comfort. Great for walking cycling & exploring Derbyshire Dales/Peak District close to Ashbourne, Bakewell, Buxton, Chatsworth. Alton Towers & Matlock Bath 3 miles.
Mill yard has a safe enclosed grass garden with a few steps leading to a stone patio circle. Garden furniture for the guest will provided for alfresco dining. Car parking is available directly next to the house. The cottage is 2 mill cottages knocked into one to create a homely comfortable space to stay & enjoy the fabulous market town of Wirksworth. Art works from around the world adorn the walls to create a homely welcoming feeling & also fit with the bohemian life of Wirksworth with its art trail in September and numerous festivals through out the year.
Mill Yard is in an envious position backing on to Wyvern railway, which run heritage trains from Wirksworth to Millford. The cottage is on the flat so people who don't like hills will love the ease of walking directly out of the door. With in a stones throw Wirksworth Leisure centre with climbing wall and swimming pool. The doctors is situated across the road as is a bus stop. The heritage Market Town of Wirksworth is an easy 10 minute stroll to the market place, where you will find a multitude of pubs, bars, cafes, bistros, micro brewery and shops.

Open living/kitchen/diner with vaulted ceiling and luxury wood burning stove. Flooded with light from skylight, double height window and quirky stable door. Comfortable double bedroom. Secluded and peaceful location near charming limestone Derbyshire dales village of Kirk Ireton in farm complex. Long reaching views from garden down picturesque valley. Relaxing haven with trees rustling outside; resident owls, swallows and bats. Close to Carsington Water and easy access to Peaks.
Covered porch entrance (with nesting swallows) down two steps into entrance hall with same floor access to living room, bedroom and bathroom. Open plan living room. This is a bright airy room with brand new HETAS registered wood burning stove (starter fuel pack provided during colder weather), bed settee (bed linen provided on request) kitchen units, double fan oven, 4 ring hob, microwave and fridge. Oak dining table and 3 chairs (high chair available on request) near stable door (second entrance to holiday let without steps from parking area). TV and DVD player. WiFi available but unreliable! The rural network is poor at times. Limited mobile network too I’m afraid. Spacious and comfortable double bedroom. Bed linen and towels provided. Child’s cot available on request. Bathroom with electric shower over bath, toilet and washbasin. Outside: a rustic bench on the doorstep to soak up the morning sun with a morning coffee. Ample private parking in farmyard in front of barns. Mature trees including silver birch providing natural shade. Small table and chairs positioned for a drink with a view. The green cushions are for outdoor use so please feel free to take these outside during your stay. Swallows, owls and more regular garden birds spotted and heard daily. There are a pair of buzzards who cross the drive and nest in the neighbouring woodland. We also have bats living in our conservatory roof so these can be seen easily at dusk swooping around. Ducks and a heron visit main farm house pond on occasion too.
We moved to derbyshire 4 years ago and couldn’t believe our luck when we found Alton Nether Farm. A real slice of paradise. Away from bustling crowds and surrounded by beautiful countryside. If you like walking, cycling, sailing, rock climbing, bird watching or simply relaxing this is the place for you! Kirk Ireton is a charming limestone village nestling in the hills above Wirksworth and a lovely walk down to Carsington Water. The idyllic rural village has an extremely well stocked community shop and a traditional gabled inn the Barley Mow. Wirksworth itself is a gem of a town with a traditional market, a surprising selection of good quality restaurants and even an independent cinema; somewhere you can forget the rigours of modern life. Carsington Water offers bike hire, kayaking, sailing and nature reserves to mention a few of the many leisure facilities available. Also nearby is the historic Cromford with Arkwright’s Mills, the Tissington Trail, Alport Heights and of course the beautiful peaks just a short drive away. Our favourite places to eat out are The Cock Inn in Muggington, just 10 minutes drive or a little slice of France at Le Mistral in Wirksworth. Everything you need for a wonderful holiday whether for a short romantic break or a full week.

A converted bijou holiday cottage, ideal for a couple. It's small but perfectly formed! On the edge of this lovely town nestled in the Derbyshire hills. Stunning walks, bike rides, exploring or just meandering with coffee stops. Car not essential. Talk to us if you want to come car-less.
If you like good design, a contemporary conversion that is cosy and welcoming overlooking beautiful countryside within walking distance of a town with pubs, restaurants and people with a smile, then you will love The Sidings. We converted The Sidings next to our home and we hope you will be as pleased as we are with the deceptive spaciousness that gives you a downstairs with a lounge area and kitchen and a cosy wood burning stove and an upstairs with a double bedroom and en suite shower, washbasin and toilet as well as a heated towel rail. There are also two electric heaters if you need a bit of instant heat. The kitchen has a fridge with a freezer compartment and there is a full fan oven and three burner induction hob as well as a microwave. It is a compact little place, so do come prepared for a bijou holiday home not a mansion! Ideally, it’s for a couple but there is a double bed futon for emergency flexible sleeping arrangements but it does restrict your space downstairs and is heavy to manoeuvre so we don't recommend it. Just a word of warning, there is restricted access to the far side of the comfy double bed upstairs in the eaves and you do have to duck your head to get in and out on that side. We think we’ve thought of everything you need in our little hideaway, but do let us know if there’s something we’ve forgotten and we’ll do our best to provide it for you. We know how annoying it is to have to pack absolutely everything for a few days away, so we will provide a hair dryer, shampoo and conditioner, cooking oil and herbs and things like that. We’ll send you a full list when you book so you can minimise that packing. Outside, there is a seating area where you can sit and enjoy the peace of this tucked away corner of Wirksworth. Occasionally, you may spot the heritage railway that runs behind our house. Don’t worry, it’s charming and not intrusive and you could take a trip on it yourself from the town! We will be on hand to help you find your way round the area and we have lots of ideas for you to spend your time with us.
Wirksworth itself is known as “Quirksworth” and be warned, you may, like so many of us, fall in love with it. We always say Wirksworth is not a place to just live, it is a vocation! It is a very special small town that has a reputation for being a creative environment that has lured artists, designers and media people, but it also has a real heart, built during its years as a lead mining town. If you come in September, you can experience the fabulous Wirksworth Festival. In June, we have Open Gardens. Actually, there's something on most weekends! You can wander around the little ginnels that make up the Puzzle Gardens with their charming houses, walk up to the Stardisc with spectacular views, visit the 700 year old Tuesday market or the monthly farmers’ market (1st Sat in the month). You can visit the Heritage Centre, the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, and the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site. You can walk the fabulous paths around the surrounding hills from your doorstep or you can wander into town to visit the pubs, restaurants and cafes- we send you more info on places to go when you book. There’s also a small community swimming pool and a leisure centre with a climbing wall. Further afield, you can spend a day at Bakewell, Alton Towers, Kedleston, Haddon Hall or Chatsworth or visit Scarthin’s Books, an old fashioned, amazing treasure trove of a bookshop. wander the lovely streets of Ashbourne, go up the cable car to Abraham Heights to see breathtaking views and do water sports at Carsington Reservoir…all within a short drive of Wirksworth. One thing is for sure, you will hear “Hello me duck” from every passing stranger who will smile and make you feel at home. Or, you can just sit in the window seat in the Sidings and gaze out on the Gilkin hills or curl up with a good book on the comfy futon, or watch a film cuddled up in front of the wood burning stove. You decide, it’s your holiday!
  • Great little place for couples. Comfy bed. Warm for the winter. Convenient location, few minutes walk from town centre. Shirley and Kevin are welcoming and helpful hosts.

  • Great, modern, small and compact, but comfortable. Lots of useful little extras left by the owners. Fantastic location, short walk to the lovely town of wirksworth, and wonderful varied walks around, you could spend the whole week without using the car! The lovely Eccclesbourne valley railway running behind is an added bonus for railway lovers! And very peaceful!

  • Shirley provide wonderful and helpful tips for things to do and places to eat. The house was perfect for two, my boyfriend and I enjoyed a peaceful, romantic getaway in such a well present house and absolutely beautiful area. Thank you Shirley

My place is close to family-friendly activities. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and furry friends (dogs). But please let us know your bringing a dog when you make a booking.
Once inside the cleverly converted cottage feels spacious and offers modern day luxuries. You enter the Cottage through a stable front door into a snug area with a desk and easy chairs which offers a perfect place for chilling out on summer evenings. From the sung a door leads to a lovely cottage style sitting room with a cosy gas living flame fire and comfy sofa and two chairs. At the other end of the snug there is a archway through to a newly appointed luxury Kitchen which leads into a stunning Dining Room with a grand dining table which looks magnificent against the stone walls, high ceiling and exposed beams. The dining room leads out onto a secure patio area and in the summer months it provides a wonderful alfresco breakfast area with a small bistro table and chairs. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, one offering a Colour TV/DVD and new King Sized bed the other with an option of two single beds or King Size. There is a luxury appointed Bathroom with bath and separate spacious Power Shower. This ideal Derbyshire Country Cottage is south facing and takes advantage of its position with a cottage garden at the front which is mainly laid with flower beds and a flagged stoned area making it a perfect summer sitting area with its stone brick BBQ. The most charming part of the cottage is the attention to detail and the quirky collection of pigs which adorn the cottage, from cute cuddly soft toys to wooden and pottery pigs they add to the special touch from the owner.
Because of Hog Cottage unique location the entrance road to the cottage is very steep and narrow and although there is parking for one car on the lane outside the cottage many guests find the hill a challenging experience and prefer to park at the bottom of Gorsey Bank.
  • Lovely warm cottage ideally located for walks

    Richard2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Hogs cottage is lovely, a well equipped kitchen, large dining area, a place for muddy boots and a cosy sitting room. Comfy beds and an invigorating shower. A great base to explore Wirksworth/Matlock and the surrounding area. The lane is rather steep and car access is limited - I made it to the final bend 50m from front door. Plenty of parking by mill and church tho.

  • Gorgeous cottage with lovely views. A really tranquil place to stay

    Mandy2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, quaint cozy cottage. Front garden is nice with a charcoal bbq with a good view. Fully equipped kitchen, plenty of good towels/flannels and tea towels. Nice and clean. Welcome food basket was a nice touch and very handy. Perfect size for 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog. Parking bit tricky, very narrow steep street. Think easier to park on the road below.

  • Hog cottage is beautiful, spacious and comfortable. The house is well equipped and communication with the host and the housekeeper was great. Wirksworth is a central location to explore the area . We will definitely stay again.

    Helen2019-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great holiday cottage. Very well equipped and very clean. Arrived to a lovely welcome pack. Area is quiet and a ten minute walk to the shops and restaurants. Would not advise driving up to the cottage as the road is narrow and turning is impossible. Only takes a couple of minutes to walk up from the mill. Easy access to Carsington walks and Cromford canal walk

    Peter2019-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice cottage lovely and homely

    Ady2018-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is located in a quite area or Wirksworth and it is an easy 15 min walk to the center. The cottage is lovely, exactly as shown on the pictures, and equipped with everything needed for a great vacation.

You’ll love our cottage because of the views, the location (walks, peak district, cycle track), and because it is well equipped. Originally three miners cottages, Acacia Cottage boasts three good-sized double bedrooms (one en-suite) and one study/bedroom with a sofabed, plus modern kitchen with gas range, large dining room, sitting room, study and large sunroom. Under-floor heating and wood burner make this delightful snug in winter. Good wi-fi and flat screen tv/DVD.
The terrace is enclosed by an iron fence, so safe for kids. There is a private garden. We provide logs for the wood-burning fire, although the under-floor heating keeps the place snug anyway. The study has a two-person desk and office chairs.
The Peak District is a magical place, with lots of history and spectacular scenery. Whatever you like doing - eating, walking, cycling, shopping, driving around - the area can cater for you. We are close to the Southern end of the Peak District rail trail - you can hire cycles at Middleton Top - and less than one hour's drive to the High Peak with its caves and mountains. Wirksworth, Cromford and Ashbourne have good restaurants. Matlock Bath and Matlock are within 15 minutes drive. For children there are the attractions at Abraham's Heights, Carsington Water and - not too far away - Alton Towers. If you like stately homes, we are close to Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. There are many gardens you can visit, including Lea Rhododendrum Gardens just across the valley. The local train line is easy to get to, about 20 minutes into Derby (with free parking at the station). If you like history, the museum of Arkwright's Mill at Cromford is a must. Canal walks are also a local feature, from Cromford.

  • Sue was a fantastic host, the cottage is spotless and in a fantastic location!

    Louise2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve had a lovely stay at this beautiful house. We’ve woken up with fantastic views across the valley and the sunsets have been lovely too. We were a party of 4 adults and 4 children aged from 9 months to 6 years old and the kitchen and living areas provided lots of space to play and explore. The bedrooms were ideal and the en-suite meant that we weren’t all using one bathroom. Sue was extremely helpful with directions and checking in information- thank you for a wonderful stay.

    Anna2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • We have had THE BEST time staying here. Such gorgeous views to wake up to, lots of beautiful spaces. The house was HUGE and in a perfect location. We held my partners surprise 30th birthday weekend here and it couldn’t have gone better. Would highly recommend the cottage to anyone who wasn’t a beautiful time away!

    Shannon2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely home and we are now on our 4th stay! We love the views and the area, but also the layout of the space and the care and attention given to everything in it.

  • This property is an absolute gem. The place itself if stunning and superbly presented. We were nervous about the amount of space but shouldn't have been because it was spacious and comfortable. The setting and the views are incredible and you are in the heart of the Dales with loads on your doorstep to do with the kids. Our family loved this trip and the house - we will definitely be back.

Cosy cottage in a beautiful Peak District setting, in the heart of historic Wirksworth. Complete with log burner for cosy evenings in, and a patio garden for the summer nights outside. Dog friendly. Two bedrooms, one kingsize, and one small double. It's the perfect base for a Peak District holiday.
Things to note: due to the quirky nature of the cottage's layout, the second bedroom is a small double, and the shower is smaller than average.
  • I wanted to surprise my friend to a rural retreat for the weekend as vikkis place was the perfect fit! The decor is so stylish, clean and has such homely feel. We couldn’t help but fall in love with the place! Vikki was always on the other end of the phone if we needed her which means a lot. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a country get away!

  • We had a wonderful stay at the cottage, it’s in such a wonderful location too. In a wonderfully higgledy piggledy back streets full of character and only a minute’s walk to the town. The beds were comfiest and coziest I’ve ever stayed in, so much so that my husband has asked me to enquire what make/where the mattresses are from😀 The house is full of character and the decor is lovely. The log burner is perfect to sit in front of with hot chocolate after a walk about the town. Wirksworth is such a pretty town with great shops, a market and lovely restaurants. We had a very nice meal at Mercia and a nice breakfast at the Upcycled coffee shop. So many lovely places to walk nearby too. We definitely would love to visit again. Highly recommended,

  • Vikki and Ric’s place was super cozy and perfect for our little weekend get-away!

    Pia Marie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We adored our stay in the gorgeous little cottage. Very stylishly done up, it was perfect for a couple of nights stay and to explore the wonderful village of Wirksworth. Would love to stay again, thank you so much.

    Helen2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Vikki's house is absolutely beautiful and combines country charm with modern style perfectly. We made full use of the log burner (thanks to the very grim weather) and all had great night sleeps in the very comfortable beds. A lovely weekend away and will definitely be back!

    Cate2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful, traditional wee cottage perfectly situated for walks from the doorstep or to explore The Peaks a bit further afield as has good road links if you’re driving. The log burner makes it so cozy & it was a perfect wee getaway with our six week old. Vikki & Ric got the place turned around so quickly as we booked last minute & it was spotless. The Shrigley artwork was particularly appreciated!

    Lucy2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Vikki and Rics cottage was so cosy and designed beautifully. Perfectly located for long walks, pub lunches and some well needed rest. Would definitely stay again. Communication was straight forward and overall a really lovely stay.

    Poppy2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really lovely stay at Vikki & Ric’s cottage - a small but perfectly formed & well designed space! Great location for exploring the south of the Peak District, including nearby Chatsworth House & Bakewell.

We have a lovely house based in the Puzzle Gardens area of Wirksworth. Amid the small lanes you can explore and walk in this quirky area, with no traffic! Wirksworth centre is just a short stroll where there are good pubs, food, a 52 seater cinema, the Star Disc, farmers' markets and the Arts Festival. There are great walks and cycling, the High Peak Trail is only a mile away. Carsington Reservoir 4 miles away. Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Keddleston are some of the great houses nearby.
Set in this quiet area the original cottage dates back to 1837. The later extension houses the kitchen and utility rooms. The ground floor is open plan to include a shared kitchen diner and living area. The first floor has your self contained en suite bedroom with private access to the house (your own front door). There is a patio with wonderful views of the countryside. If your looking for a quiet away from it all holiday break on the edge of the Derbyshire Peak District with access just a gentle stroll into Wirksworth town with all its amenities, then look no further
The Puzzle Gardens of Wirksworth are unique. They are a wonderful quiet quirky area of Wirksworth that have an amazing history. Yet are only a stones throw away from the hustle and bustle of the town with its wealth of local shops, cafes and restaurants.
  • Geoffrey and Patricia where wonderful hosts and made me feel very welcome while i was staying

    Chris2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about staying with Geoff and Trish is awesome... the local tips, so homely, really cosy, toast and home made marmalade, gorgeous interior design, wine, cake and a card for my birthday! Trish even lent me a jacket as I left mine at home.. Such kind, generous, sociable people - I feel like I’ve now got 2 more members of my family! Miss you guys, will be back! 😹💙

  • Lovely place, got me a bit fitter going back each night, which I also enjoyed.

    Beryl2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • We were so spoilt with wonderful weather and fab breakfasts on the patio overlooking one of the best views of Wirksworth from the Puzzle Gardens. Hosts made us feel so welcome and became as much a part of our weekend as the Gardens Festie.

    Jason2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • A very clean house and lovely people

    Peter2019-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I spent two nights here and had a great time exploring Wirksworth and the local area. Geoff and Patricia are lovely hosts and provided a warm welcome to their lovely home. They are also a font of excellent local knowledge and were able to explain the history of the town and recommend both activities and places to eat/drink. I would thoroughly recommend staying here.
