The Field House sits on the edge of a hayfield just outside Fort Augustus. It is a warm and intimate space, with a living and dining area with spectacular views of the fields and hills, an ensuite shower room, a galley kitchen and two single beds in the loft. The decking is frequented by game birds, hares and owls, and highland cattle graze in the neighbouring field. Fort Augustus and Loch Ness are a short walk away, and the house is perfectly located for exploring the highlands further afield.
A unique space, formally a hay shed, then an art gallery, constructed from trees felled in local woods by the owner and milled on the farm.
Fort Augustus is a friendly village with a fascinating history.
  • This was such an amazing stay! Olivia and her husband we above and beyond to help us - even picking us up in Inverness because we wouldn’t make the last bus. The place was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Such a gorgeous little place. Highly recommend anyone stay here who wants peace and quiet.

  • Great place to stay while visiting Loch Ness and the surrounding area. Lovely home with great facilities and views. Excellent communication and response times were top drawer. Biscuits were there for us arriving which was a nice touch. Lots of tips on local places to visit and eat. We had a problem with the hot tub which we reported late on the Saturday night around 10.30 and got a response straight back and the issue was fixed first thing the next morning before we had even got up. Highly recommended and will be back in the future.

  • Amazing views, stayed here as two couples when storm Ciara hit and it was still lovely in the hot tub! Would recommend a visit, hoping to return in the future.

  • The lodge was beautifully clean and comfortable and larger then we imagined from the photos. It had everything we could need during our stay and is ideally located between loch Ness and Glencoe. We had a lovely stay here and would definitely stay again.

  • Gary’s place was perfect! My partner and I stayed for five days and explored the local area. The lodge was surrounded by beautiful views of the loch and had nice trails right behind it. It was about 20 minutes away from a grocery store and had a perfect kitchen to cook in for our stay. And the hot tub was a wonderful touch! We used it everyday and really loved having it there, especially since we stayed in the winter. Loved it! Would stay here again.

  • Great place to stay if you are walking the GGW. Basically on trail, and Geraldine offered the opportunity to have dinner at her place since there is no where else in the village to buy dinner. She and her husband are lovely, interesting people and the home is super cute. Very much my style, anyway!

  • Excellent place to stay with everything you need. Facilities are all very new and work perfectly. The location is brilliant for accessing the Highland and Islands. Jen is very helpful and responsive, a really great host. We had a brilliant time here and will be telling all our friend. Highly recommended!

  • Great location! It was a short walk to the centre of town which made it easy to take in the sights. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and as advertised. Jen was a great host and offered lots of suggestions on the area. I highly recommend a stay at her place.

  • Spacious 2 bed cottage more than big enough for the three of us, modern and spotless throughout. Friendly and informative welcome, clear and quick communications throughout. 10mins walk into Fort Augustus, ideally located for our short stop between Skye and Inverness in order to explore Loch Ness. Thanks again for a lovely stay.

    Zack2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Jen's place is perfect in every way. Will recommend to my friends.

    Elle2019-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Jen's accommodation is just out of town (about 2 minutes to drive in). The self contained 2 bedroom bungalow is spacious, neat, clean, comfortable, has everything you'll ever need and could accommodate a family of 4. The kitchen is complete, has a cupboard full of condiments and has a few appliances I don't even have at home! So if you're staying there a while, there'll be no problems if you want to whip something up for yourself. Jen is an informative and gracious host. She was worried she wouldn't finished work before I got there, so here lovely mother and father were recruited to "man-the-fort" and showed me around. Fort Augusts is a charming little town on the banks of Loch Ness. The petrol station/general store is well stocked with anything you need and there are ample pubs and restaurants. You can spend several hours wandering the streets and looking at the arts and crafts and doing the touristy thing. You can also use it as a base to look around the area. If you like twisty winding roads and getting a little out of the way, you can try doing a lap of Loch Ness (up the east side to Inverness and then back down the main road on the west side). Would I stay at Jen's again if I'm in the area? - definitely yes. Would I recommend it to others? - unreservedly.

  • The place is nice and clean and only a very short drive away from Fort Augustus. Sara and Luke are very welcoming and happy to help you out. Very much recommended - you won't find something nicer here.

    Lars2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Sara and her husband were very welcoming to our family. Located just outside of Fort Augustus made it easy to go anywhere around Loch Ness. Their home is in a nice and quiet area. It can be tricky to find so just make sure to follow her directions!

    Erin2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Even though we made booking at Sara and Luke's place at very short notice (the next day), they were very accommodating and helpful. Their house is lovely and the location in Auchterawe forest is beautiful. The bedroom was nice and warm, the shower was excellent and the bed was comfortable. It was also useful to have a microwave in the room as it meant we could bring dinner to heat up rather than needing to pay to eat out. The games room was fun to use (competitive couples take note - the air hockey table is quite small and you can reach across to the other half so if you're anything like me and my husband you might end up basically physically tackling each other!). We would definitely recommend staying here.

We had our private entry to the part of the house were there was our room. Our room was ensuite, comfortable, clean and with a beautiful view of the forest and mountains. We had a nice coffee before sleeping and you can even find a microwave. We had wonderful stay at Sara’s house! I would really recommend staying here! Thank you Sara!

This is no ordinary shepherds hut with its very own log burner hot tub on the private deck overlooking the burn and woodlands. Inside, the living area has a well equipped kitchenette, log burner, arm chairs, drop down table and a large king size bed. It also has a spacious shower. There are also 2 canoes, 2 paddle boards and a rowing boat that you can use on the loch. A maximum of 1 well behaved dog is welcome, some basic rules apply.
The hut was made by a very creative and resourceful father and son team, they started with an old army trailer for the chassis, I supplied the western red cedar from Canada and they used all sorts of bits and bobs from their salvage yard to give it that wonderful quirky character. It measures 7.5 x 2.4m which gives an amazing spacey feel yet remains incredibly cosy. Outside the raised deck is the same size again giving a lovely view over the burn that runs down into Loch Garry just 100m away. The deck hosts a gas BBQ, bar table and chairs - you'll also find fleecy blankets inside if it’s a bit chilly. The hut is also equipped with power / USB sockets, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, DVD monitor (HDMI and USB slots for your own devices), fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, cafetiere, pots n pans, playing cards, a few DVD's for the TV (No TV signal) marsh mallow toasting fork for the fire pit in the woods, coat rack with a grill beneath to allow any wet boots and coats do drip and dry. There's a hose pipe outside to wash off excessive mud on your boots, dogs or bikes An endless supply of logs are available for burning in the stove or fire pit. Hot water is supplied by a small water heater over the copper sink and the shower is electric. The basin in the loo has a cold tap. Storage for your bags and clothes is at the end of the bed either in or on top of the cupboard that items drop down into, there is also a shelf above the TV and drawers under the bed too. The Hot Tub has a log burner to heat the water, get a good fire going and the water will be hot enough between 30-60 mins depending on how good your fire is!
Lots of woodlands and a wonderful loch to enjoy, over looked by mountains
  • The Shepheard hut is a fab place to get away. We stayed with our dog for two nights in early March, it’s super cosy inside with the log burner going even when it was snowy outside. The hot tub is fab and keeps its heat for ages after the fire has gone out, there’s some lovely little spots around the Loch if you take a wonder in the woods around the hut. Alison answered all of our questions promptly and messaged us with information she thought would be helpful. I would recommend staying here to anyone if your looking for somewhere novel and charming to stay. We would definitely stay again.

  • A very cosy getaway - definintely hard to leave

    Lauren2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing place. Cannot recommend it enough- even though it was pouring down with rain the whole time we were there! It's even better than it looks in the photographs, a really magical place.

  • Alison’s place is the perfect getaway. We went for one night and stayed in the cabin all evening and sheltered from the Scottish weather. The log burner kept us cosy all night. Really easy to find and to get to (by car) even in the dark! Overall the stay was amazing, we hope to return in the warmer weather

    Emma2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • A very cute, cosy and well thought out hut. We loved our time and only wished we had booked more days! Next time! Alison was very responsive and a great host!

  • This was our second visit to Alison's cabin over NYE - it really is a magical place to stay! The cabin has everything you need plus more. A night in the hot tub (even when raining in Jan) is the best way to spend an evening!

  • A real treasure! Remote place next to river and lake. Very well equipped; kayaks and stand up paddles that one can use. Very romantic and cosy caravan. Adorable details such as a sink made of a tree trunk. Hot Tub that can easily be heaten up - even in November. :) We enjoyed our 2 days stay a lot.

    Sheila2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • The Shepherds Was an absolute marvel. Everything had been thought about. The location was stunning and with easy access to local walks. It's slightly remote, so follow the advice about buying anything you might need before you arrive or be prepared for a drive to the nearest shop several miles away in Fort Augustus. The hot tub was great, although in the cold it took a couple of hours to heat up... Worth the wait though. Overall a perfect escape for a romantic weekend away. Can't recommend highly enough.

The Auld Dipper is a detached, purpose built holiday cottage enjoying a scenic forest location with magnificent views. Only a few miles from Fort Augustus and the Loch Ness Monster but with a feeling of being far from anywhere. A perfect location for a stay in the Scottish Highlands, any time of year. Enjoy the long summer evenings with a barbecue on the decking or curl up in front of the wood burner on cold winter nights, after a day skiing at nearby Nevis Range. A great base to explore this dramatic landscape and outdoor capital of Scotland.
The stunning forest location on the shores of Loch Ness
    The beautiful, peaceful location.
  • Peaceful, well equipped, great walks right from the door many of which are very easy. Wildlife on the door step. Good place to see wild boar if you have the patience. We'll be back.

  • Julie's place was fantastic. Breathtaking location and a beautiful home. The accommodation has everything a family might need and it was warm and snug in the middle of winter ! We loved the place - and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

  • Place is perfect if you want to escape and relax. House is in rural location, but not too far from town where you can find restaurants, coffee shops, local store ect. I would say location is perfect, you can go straight for walks/bike around, up hill, through forest and along the river Oich. It's about 1-2h walk to Fort Augustus, maybe 10min drive a car.

  • Allison’s place is breathtaking from the thoughtful and stylish details to the beauty of the property. Tucked away but yet close enough to sights to make this place a hub for your highland adventures. She thought of everything you may need from rain boots to salt for the decks if it snows and plenty of onsite amenities like canoes, and the hot tub. Directions for everything clearly labels and spelled out. We can’t wait to return soon

    Sam2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for 2 nights in the beautiful cabin. It is in a super location just a 100m or so from the edge of loch Garry. You can wander down to the waters edge and enjoy the peace and breathtaking views of the mountains. We also took the boats out onto the lake which was a very special place to be. Inside the cabin everything is finished to a very high standard and it was especially prepared with lots of extra touches for the christmas period. We enjoyed lounging around in front of the fire, playing games together and eating nice dinners. One of the best places we have ever stayed, so thanks to Alison for hosting. We would recommend.

    Chris2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is wonderful. Exactly as described, a bit remote (that’s what we were looking for), great amenities, very clean, and overall a great place to relax and unplug. There is no access to wifi, so plan accordingly if you need that. However, cell phone network coverage is not a problem. Highly recommend the place.

    Arber2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabin, in a stunning location fantastically managed - recipe for a dreamy weekend. Alison truly deserves her title of 'superhost', from booking the communication channels were open and she was very helpful from answering my many questions to sending excellent directions. The cabin's design is stunning (hands down the best bathrooms I have ever used) and add ons such as the hot tub and the SUPs and canoes by the loch really made it a special getaway. The area is absolutely beautiful and Alison allows you to experience it first hand at your own pace and in your own way, I had an unforgettable getaway and could not recommend the Caledonian Cabin enough.

Bramble Lodge is one of our single-storey 4-person cabins. It's located at Great Glen Lodges, which offer quality self-catering accommodation in a peaceful and scenic rural Highlands location on the Great Glen Way. Each of our rustic timber lodges directly overlooks Loch Lochy, so you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the lake and mountains from your front window. We own and run Great Glen Lodges, and we live on the property too.
***Special announcement: Bramble Lodge has just had a completely new bathroom with shower over bath installed! All our lodges also have new beds and high-quality pocket-sprung mattresses.*** Great Glen Lodges are in a really special and remote but accessible part of the Highlands, just near Loch Ness. The site is on the shore of Loch Lochy, which joins Loch Oich and Loch Ness via the Caledonian Canal. Bramble Lodge is rustic and built from full-timber Scandinavian pine logs. The single-storey interior offers a bit of retro-cosy to travellers who like peace, quiet, and something of times past. We're in a rural area with poor internet connectivity, so our lodges do not have wifi, but the mobile phone towers in the area give most guests a good 4G signal.
Great Glen Lodges are set in a spectacular and remote scenic location at the centre for outdoor activities in the United Kingdom. Nestled between Fort William and Fort Augustus—right on the Great Glen Way—our five timber lodges offer easy access to Highlands excitement or just a quiet spot to slow down and relax.

  • I never expected the most beautiful of places in which we were to stay at Great Glen Lodges. Absolutely stunning scenery. The log cabin style of accommodation is highly suited to the outdoorsy atmosphere of the location. The hospitality of the owners is exemplary - excellent communication, shown around the cabin on arrival, lots of information on local places to see and even a home-made cake on arrival!!! Couldn't be happier.

  • Exactly as advertised. Our kids liked the shore of the loch to build dams and role-play being bandits. There are few easy hikes for kids nearby. Will is very friendly, quick and accomodating.

  • The photos don’t do it justice. Our children wanted to stay longer. Big rooms, a fire and nature at arms reach was restorative for us all after visiting hectic cities. I’d stay again in a heartbeat.

    Matt2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous little cottage a short drive from Fort Augustus. We were there in winter so really enjoyed the cosy fireplace and comfy couches. Decent sized kitchen so we also cooked a meal one night and stayed in but it really isn't a long drive to the town to have a meal there either. Beds were good too and it was nice in the morning seeing some real nice views outside (very peaceful). Would imagine it would be great in summer to be able to sit outside and enjoy it with the longer daylight hours. Sara met us as we arrived and was nice knowing they were nearby in case we needed anything. Highly recommend if you were looking for a cosy base to explore the area for a few nights.

    Jarrad2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I loved staying at Sara's converted barn in Fort Augustus, Loch Ness. The property was beautiful and surrounded by a beautiful forest, but only a short drive to Fort Augustus. The barn was very well kept, clean and cosy, great for our Christmas break. Sara and her husband were very helpful and gave us some great local tips. Beds were very comfortable and the large kitchen was great for our self-catering needs, and the large freeview TV was just what we needed in the evening after our sightseeing during the day. Oh, and the log fireplace was amazing and great for our December visit.

    Andy2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Barn attached to the house owners, fully furnished (stone walls, fireplace ...), nice decoration, very comfortable, consistent with the description.

    Pascale2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Luke and Sara run a great pad just out of Fort Augustus They are always ready to help out: we got into a spot of bother at our entrance to Briar Barn (to spare my blushes I will not go into details). Luke was out straightaway to help and did not stop until he had rescued us and put us on the right path. A true gentleman. The house is wonderful, in a lovely quiet location surrounded by forests. The living area especially is so cosy - you have to drag yourself out to explore the countryside, but you're glad when you do! I would strongly recommend a visit.

    Mark2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Sara and Luke were fantastic hosts and their barn is in a lovely, quiet spot along a forest road but in a clearing with long range views to the hills opposite and quick access to some nice local walks. The barn was just as advertised, if not better to be honest! It really was a home from home for a few days, with great facilities and such a cosy living room, made even better with the log burner. Just wish we could have stayed longer!

    Teresa2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • You will not be disappointed if you book a stay at this barn. Sara and Luke were really helpful, and the surroundings were breathtaking. Some great walks close by too and as we visited in the autumn, the colours were astounding. The accommodation was very comfortable; pretty much a home from home. Lovely log burner and lots of hot water. A really fab place and I'd happily recommend it.

A very nice accommodation to stay, within walking distance of the bustle of Fort Augustus, but very quiet! Highly recommended as far as we are concerned! And Julie is a winner!

Lady Andorina offers unique accommodation on the Caledonian canal in the Highlands of Scotland, on the Great Glen Way at Laggan Locks near Invergarry, a short stroll from Loch Lochy and Loch Oich. We have 8 bunks in 4 cabins and moored next door you’ll find the Eagle barge floating pub serving great food and wine plus a range of real ales and over 70 different whiskies!
Lady Andorina offers the only accommodation moored quite literally on the Caledonian canal. The path next to our mooring forms part of the Great Glen Way. This makes her the perfect place to stay for walkers and cyclists, along with anyone looking for a unique place to stay in a stunning location.. Andorina is a 65 foot wooden ketch yacht built from mahogany and oak in 1951. She has 8 bunk beds and while she is by no means luxurious she’s warm, dry, has toilets and a kitchen and you’re sure of a warm Highlands welcome. All bedding is provided along with towels and a key to the nearby shower facilities. Andorina is moored next to the canal’s only floating pub, the Eagle Barge, and all our guests get a 10% discount! Eagle is open from April 5th to October 25th this year. BTW we love dogs on board as long as they’re dog (and human) friendly! Here's what people say about us... “If you want a unique experience when traveling the highlands, this is the place.” Tyler, USA “One of the greatest experiences of our Scotland Trip - fully recommended” Johannes, Netherlands “This place is the perfect spot for a group of friends to spend the weekend together sharing good food, laughter and enjoying walks in the breathtaking Great Glen.“ Rachel, Scotland “Really unique experience, and the boat has a great story behind it. Steve is very welcoming, open and helpful. Great place to sleep while going to highlands. Family friendly:)” Kasia, France
Lady Andorina is moored on the beautiful Caledonian canal in the Scottish Highlands. The Great Glen Way is quite literally on the doorstep. Next door we have the canal’s only floating pub, the Eagle barge, serving meals and dinner in the evenings (please note that bar meals don’t need to be booked but dinner is by reservation only, see the Eagle’s website for details...eaglebargeinn.weebly.com). The shores of Loch Lochy are a short stroll away and 20 minute walk along the canal will take you to Loch Oich. Elsewhere we’re a 10 minute drive from Fort Augustus and the western end of Loch Ness.

  • We were 5 friends spending a night into Steve's boat. This was really a nice experience ! The small living room is lovely and there even is a TV and a Bluetooth speaker. Some of the beds were quite small for tall people but as we were under 1m70 tall we fit in the bed. The location of this housing is really unique and amazing for a few nights. The bar/boat next door was really enjoyable too. I would highly recommend Steve's boat for anyone who looks for a different experience in a stunning location

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage. The place was super clean, welcoming, warm and cosy, all you want in this part of Scotland. We were a bit surprised not to find any salt, pepper or cooking oil in the kitchen and shower gel/soap in the shower. I would definitely book this place again!

The Old Convent was built in 1842 originally as a church, St.Peters chapel. Converted to a convent in 1891 and known as St.Scholastica's Priory until 1922. We have lovingly renovated the building keeping a lot of original features but adding modern touches such as central heating and double glazing!
No.2 is a ground floor one bedroom apartment with fully equipped kitchen, including oven and hob, full size fridge/freezer, washer/dryer and all the utensils you might need. Iron, ironing board, clothes airer. The dining area then opens onto a spacious living area with 32"HDTV, DVD player, wood burning stove. Books, maps and information folder all provided. Free Wi-Fi. There are a couple of steps up to the door of the apartment and another couple internally from the main living area through to the bathroom room and bedroom with kingsize bed.
Fort Augustus is the gem of the Highlands and really has everything; not only is the village beautiful and interesting with the Caledonian canal and locks running running through the centre there are pubs/restaurants, craft shops, visitor centre, grocery, post office, bank and petrol station all close by, (only a 10 minute walk from The Old Convent which is within the village limits). But being geographically centre of the Highlands on the southern shores of Loch Ness makes all areas of the Highlands easily accessible.
  • Warm, cosy and homely with a feel of pure luxury! Perfect location to enjoy all of the highlands

  • Felicity’s place was incredible. Much bigger than I expected from the pictures, and very comfortable for a few nights stay! Felicity and her partner greeted us upon arrival and showed us around the place, making us feel right at home. We really enjoyed having such a great kitchen too. The location was perfect to explore around Loch Ness, and even made a day trip out to the Isle of Skye! An exceptional stay. I’m already looking forward to our next trip.

    Becky2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures of the convent simply do not do it justice. It’s simply beautiful. An interior comprising original features such as exposed slate walls and arches combined with a modern touch, provide the wow factor. A wood burner provides an additional source of visual warmth; the heating system is second to none, provided via beautiful Victorian cast iron radiators. Floor to ceiling hand made drapes cover the replacement sash windows which provide views over the rear garden, french doors off the bedroom provide direct access. The high ceilings and carefully chosen decor make the bedroom a relaxing and quiet room, without a TV which we liked. The bed is so very comfy dressed with cotton bedding and a throw should you need it. The kitchen is modern and more than suitably stocked with an inventory to satisfy a comfortable stay, certainly so if you are cooking as opposed to eating out. Felicity’s welcome is a warm one, a hostess that wants you to love the building as she clearly does, providing details of local attractions, eateries things to do and, a history of the convent. Of all the places we have stayed, certainly so in the last three years or so, this is clearly the forerunner in terms of value, cleanliness and location. A five star host and a five star property. Bravo!
