Places to stay in Okiato
Watch the harbour activities and ever changing vista from the deck of our clean and comfortable home. We are situated just above the car ferry on the Russell side of the Opua harbour. Shared accommodation in a kiwi family home. The ferry cost is $13 per car & runs a continual service. Or you can walk on for just $1 per person. Please note this is not an apartment but a family home that we share with travelers! There are times when we are not home, but guests are still welcome to stay.
The bathroom & kitchen facilities are shared. Tea & coffee is provided. Breakfast foods are available for you to make your own breakfast.
Okiato Point, Russell was the very 1st Capital of NZ & is an ideal base to check out the historical sites around the Bay of Islands area. Go sailing, kayaking, fishing, hiking and swimming. You can cross the harbour by ferry & dine at the local cafes of Opua. The area offers diving, parasailing, swim with the dolphins and much much more.

  • What a lovely place to stay. It was our first stop after 48 hours of continuous travel from the UK. Our three nights at Ferry Landings were relaxing and enabled us to explore the Russell area and visit Waitangi. There is a beautiful view from the balcony and Andrea is an engaging and very helpful host.

    Anne2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice location with a great view. Andrea is very easy going and is very insightful about the area.

Secluded, tranquil and comfortable; set 30m back from the beach with beautiful views of the bay looking over to Opua. Whilst this property retains its character as a quintessential Kiwi Bach, it is immaculately presented, having been tastefully redecorated inside. It is uniquely nestled into 3/4 acre of land & is the only residence in the bay. Described by many as the ideal Writers’ retreat, Tyson’s Bach exudes character, peace & inspiration. The perfect space to relax, contemplate and dream.
Features: - Fully furnished - This is home to many native birds (i.e. Weka, Kiwi, Tui, Fantail, Kingfisher, plus families of Californian Quail make regular visits) - Quiet, secluded location with native trees & manuka bush onsite - 300 meters to the car ferry – so ‘walk’ across to Opua to get your paper, bread, or fisn 'n chips! - Idyllically situated and handy to both Opua & Russell plus numerous other bays - Ample boat & trailer parking on the property - Boat ramp beside car ferry. Alternatively in Russell, Tapeka Point, or one of the many bays out towards Rawhiti (plus Opua, Paihia, Waitangi, etc). - Gas BBQ available on deck - Two kayaks available for use - Pet friendly (Note, property is not fenced so please be mindful of the many native birds in the area) - Settle in, relax and enjoy…
Fun facts: 1. Did you know that Okiato (not Russell) was in fact the first Capitol of New Zealand? Check the plinth out 200m up the road. 2. The infamous NZ drug dealer (“Mr Asia”) Terry Clark owned a house, affectionately nick-named by the locals as “Cannabis Castle”. It sits proudly on the Okiato Point just up the road – best viewed from the water or the rocks below. 3. Okiato is a historical area known for its boat building and car ferry landing – there is still an old boat shed on the beach below the Bach and another in the adjacent bay to the south which has was to be restored as a holiday home. 4. The Opua Wharf was a busy, bustling hive of commercial activity, vital to the economic well-being of the area, fed by rail that came in through kawakawa and beyond. Cruise ships regularly docked there until 20 odd years ago. 5. The original owners of the property were the Deemings. In fact, they were also the original owners of the car ferry. In those days it was a barge that was towed and tugged by a small launch. 6. Final fun fact - This is where you will have one of the best holidays of your life!!!
  • A wonderful home with amazing views! Highly recommended!!

    Phillip2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a gorgeous little place right on the water. Super convenient location next to the car ferry so you can walk down and onto the ferry. The place itself is very cute, clean and recently styled. The view from the lovely widow seat is stunning. We had a great couple of nights here, close to Waitangi treaty grounds and a 10min drive from Russell for a few beers and fish and chips.

    Mhairi2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is a terrific little bach right near the car ferry at Oviato. It has a fantastic view over the water to Opua and sits on its own little beach. It is easy to get there by the car ferry and only ten minutes drive from Russell, where there are several good restaurants.

    Ben2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • We loved John’s Place. It is a fantastic location and a well equipped Bach. The canoes were a real bonus and we enjoyed our paddles in the bay. Relaxing in the evening on the deck, watching the boats go by was also great. Thoroughly recommended!

    Sue2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the tops. A perfect location on the waterfront overlooking the bay. This charming bach is comfortable, well appointed and well located. I cannot rate this wonderful spot too highly!

  • This was the most incredible place we have ever stayed in. Such a beautiful location, private and secluded and immersed in nature, you are made to feel completely relaxed and at home, we didn't want to leave. Thank you for these wonderful memories!

    Danielle2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing location, no one else around, perfect spot for a weekend getaway off the grid

    Toby2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place was a real gem! A truly unique little glamping spot in the middle of a beautiful vineyard surrounded by NZ bush and the ocean. Beautifully designed accommodation, perfect for those looking for a mix of 'camping' and luxury and true serenity. Sarah was so kind & helpful in giving us plenty of local recommendations & making us bookings for restaurants etc. A very memorable & unique experience, hope to return! :D

    Anya2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a unique find for anyone wishing for a relaxing stay in an incredible, stunning part of the world. It had all we needed for a relaxing weekend. The view was particularly magical especially at sunset. The small thoughtful touches like the wine and breakfast made the experience even more memorable! The only regret we have is we didn’t make it up to the restaurant but we will be back again for sure. Thank you Sarah :)

    Natalie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing. It's more than just a place to stay, its an experience in itself. Sarah and the team at Omata are delightful and its a stay you won't forget. We will definitely be coming back

Our purpose built waterfront property has fabulous views out into the Bay where we swim, fish, and kayak. The garden goes down to the water and is full of bird life and wonderful plants. As one guest said '' how can you bear to leave this place"! The apartment has a queen bed in a separate bedroom and a set of bunks in an alcove off the living area. There is also a sofa bed in the living are. There is a laundry. The covered deck is a very popular space.
Many guests enjoy the bird life and the opportunity to wander down through the garden to the beach below. We are on the walk way that goes from Okiato through to Russell then across in the passenger ferry to Paihia, then on the Opua and a ride as foot passenger on the car ferry back to Okiato. We are a few 100 meters from the site of NZ first capital. So much to see and do. We are 500 meters up the hill on the left as you leave the car ferry from Opua.
Site of New Zealand's first capital. Set on a quiet peninsular in a central position in the Bay of Islands.
  • The location of this house and the views are incomparable. It’s seriously breathtaking and so serene. The house is so homely and has everything needed for a relaxing stay, but it is only a short drive to the upmarket resort of Russell with some nice restaurants and a few boutique shops. Perfect holiday home, would recommend to anyone

  • Lovely host & beautiful spot

    Jess2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed the place . The view is just stunning.

  • Beautiful and tidy house, very close to Ferry Terminal. Host Paula is very friendly:)

    Richie2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place is not 2 bedrooms. What’s meant by “sleeps 6” is that a bunk bed occupies the corner of the lounge & the sofa in the same lounge folds out & fits two more people. So the people in the bedroom travel through the lounge room & past the lounge room sleepers to get to the bathroom during the night. There should have been a photo of the bunk beds in the lounge room to show this. Otherwise the place was great. A nice garden leading down to the water where you can do a bush trail walk. The place is pet friendly so we kept the windows open to let the air in. Keep some mosquito repellent handy in summer if you leave the windows open at night.

    Alex2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic sea view, close to ferry and a very nice host. We had a great time!

This is a self catering apartment with a spacious open plan living area, a separate bedroom and bathroom. Guests have their own patio with sea views across to Russell and the Opua inlet. Guests have use of a separate entrance to the apartment from their carport. While we are only 3.2 km from the centre of Paihia, it is a hilly walk. There is a lot to see and do here so make sure your stay isn't too short to experience what is available.
You can wake up to the gentle sounds of the local Tui (birds) and look out across the bay to see what the weather has to offer. We are in a quiet suburban area looking out over the water to Russell. You could walk down the hill to the beach and coastal walkway that runs from Paihia to Opua around the coast and across the mangrove boardwalk. Paihia township is only a 5 minute drive away but can be a pleasant walk along the coastal roadway. There is a lot to do in Paihia with boat trips, fishing trips and bush walks/ biking all available. A short ferry trip from the town wharf will get you to historic Russell or a pleasant walk can get you to the Treaty grounds and meeting house at Waitangi.
We are in a semi-rural residential neighborhood that has many native birds living in the trees around about.
  • A beautiful place with all essential amenities. Located in a quiet street with a beautiful view. We loved our time in Paihia, checking out The Bay of Islands and Cape Reigna.

I live in te Haumi, a suburb of Paihia, the hub of any activities you might be interested in, in the Bay of Islands. Your space is private with your own bedroom, bathroom and small sitting room - you can use the kitchen if you want to cook. I work part-time locally, so you will have the place to yourselves most of the time. Paihia is 6 minutes drive away, Waitangi 10 mins. My house is on the edge of a forest, at the end of a cul-de-sac. It is quiet and away from the hubub.
    Off-street parking.
I love my town and neighbourhood. Food: Greens. Cafe: Moby Deck. Walk: Haruru Falls. Water: Hole in the Rock tour. Museum: Pompallier Mission. Beach: Long Beach, Russell. Island: Urupukapuka.

  • We had a great stay at Kathleen’s place! The location of the house is great, just a little off the main road, but in the quiet neighbourhood. The house was sparkling clean with amazing touches. There was even a private kitchenette for us with our own fridge. The room was very comfortable and the view from the balcony was unbelievable- shame that we stayed there only for one night. Kathleen is a great host and it was such a pleasure meeting her. We would highly recommend staying here.

My place is on a hill and has great views of Te Haumi bay beach and a peek across the sea to Opua. Approximately 15mins walk downhill to the main town centre of Paihia and Maritime building for the famous Hole in the Rock cruise and Dolphin Boat tours. You’ll love my place because it’s just off the main road and is quiet. The studio is extra large with open spaces, comfy beds and the cosiness. Suitable for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids).
The studio apartment has a seperate bathroom with a shower, own laundry, large kitchenette with big fridge freezer & compact benchtop oven with two elements for cooking. There is a queen bed and king bed, TV with sky, lounge suite, reading and dining area. It is bigger than your average size studio apartment with lots of space.
Quiet but safe neighbourhood. Short walk to town and beach.

  • Sharon and Yarn are a really friendly couple, unfortunately we did not get to spend as much time with them as we would have liked as we had an early start. they were both very hospitable and knowledgeable about the local area. Also the view from the balcony is lovely. Certainly recommended!

  • This was a very private and self contained unit that suited us exactly. The host was friendly and accommodating, and provided us with the privacy we needed. Location was great.

    Kyla2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon and Yarn have an incredible property. You have a private entrance to your room from the deck, kind of like a motel. The room is good size and has an en-suite. Bed was comfy. They have a small fridge and table and chairs and provide tea, coffee, milk, and light refreshments. Very nice touches to an already incredible room. Also cool to see them feed the quails twice a day!

Looking for somewhere special where you can chillout, kick back, and experience the magic of the Bay of Islands? Affectionately called “The Woo Hoo” cottage, my fully self-contained studio is for you. The stunning view over the Bay and across to Russell takes your breathe away. Instantly, you feel a sense of peace and a positive vibration envelops you, welcoming you to your own magical world. This is a special place for special people, come and experience the magic -stay more than DAY!
The view is outstanding, across the Bay to Russell. The seascape is ever changing as is the lighting. Watch yachts and cruisers come and go, cutting pathways through the blueness of the sea. It can be difficult to drag yourself away from such an amazing sight. For those musically inclined, there is a guitar (sort of kiwi tradition really). Why not immerse all of your senses. Take a walk in the garden, stop and smell the roses, find a meditation spot, or pick yourself some fresh herbs to make a cup of tea (mint is a favorite). Handpick some fruit or maybe pluck some fresh lettuce leaves, you never know what might be in season. The studio is magical and you will find yourself totally absorbed in its peacefulness and ambiance. The kitchenette has everything you need to cook a meal. There is also a colouring book and pencils for those wanting to do some mind therapy. Please note it is suitable for a single person only. If there is more than one of you, check out my double unit www.airbnb.co.nz/rooms/5230973
My neighborhood is very peaceful. My street is a cul de sac and generally the only traffic that comes down the road are locals or people who are lost. Just down the bottom of the hill by the Te Haumi Bridge is a walking track to Opua. It meanders through bush and along the beaches and is truly beautiful. Its about an 1.5 hours walk one way.
  • Wonderful place with a great host! Jans place is very clean and exactly as pictured. Jan herself is a gracious host and easy to communicate with. You won't regret staying here.

  • Staying at Eveleen’s was like staying at home, away from home. Very comfortable and well appointed. Lovely ammenities and furnishings. Really nice outdoor seating/dining area. Very safe and quiet. Excellent base to explore the Bay of Islands.

  • A very comfortable and excellently situated flat. Great amenities would definitely stay there again.

    Wayne2019-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • The best Airbnb in Russell. We had a fantastic stay over New Years. The place was equipped with everything we could ever have wanted, comfy and private - and Eveleen shared local hotspots for us to visit and even shared some delicious home cooking. Great stay away. Highly recommended.

    Andrew And Juan Pablo2019-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Eveleen's house is right by the ferry, the trail to Russell, and Eveleen has fantastic local recommendations. The apartment has everything you need including a kitchen.

    Ashley2018-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Eveleen and Scott had been a fantastic and pleasant host. Their local knowledge had been really useful to polish our last minute vacation plans. We enjoyed some serene spots around Bay of islands during the labor weekend. They were very accommodating to our reasonable requests and it helped us have a smooth vacation. Their place is complete with all amenities for a family with little children. Being a primary teacher Eveleen knows how to keep the kids engaged with all the board games at their place. They have a very nice collection of books to read if you are after reading during vacation. Eveleen and Scott also work hard to grow all vegetables and gardens in their home organically. It is so satisfying to see those organic produces. Appreciate their obsession about producing good food. I would definitely recommend their place. -Vasu

  • We spent two nights with Marg and Rhys in their beautiful and stylish “Harbor View Cottage Bay of Islands”. The studio promises what the ad shows. It is well located and was squeaky clean. Rhys received us warmly and informed us very well. We felt very comfortable, so we can highly recommend this accommodation.

  • This is a beautiful property with stunning views from the balcony. The hosts were there to help but very respectful of our privacy which was important to us. The yummy biscotti was a nice touch. You definitely need to be in a car to stay at this property as the nearest restaurants and cafes are not exactly walkable. However with a car this place is very conveniently located for paihia as well as Russell. Would highly recommend this property.

Relax on the deck and enjoy the gorgeous sea views. This house is warm and welcoming, newly renovated and beautifully furnished with a fully kitted out kitchen. Plenty of off street parking with room for a boat and also a lock up garage to store the beach toys. Fully fenced for the kids and set up for entertaining with two areas for BBQ's. We love this house, it's the ultimate relaxing holiday space. There are beaches within walking distance and close to the Russell walking track.
We have beautiful water views! We feel so lucky to own this place and have spent time to ensure that each room is comfortable, clean and inviting. Eat breakfast on the back deck with the sea views, have the afternoon BBQ in our lovely courtyard, its private and a sun trap. There is room for everyone to spread out.
Okiato is like a small sea side village. People are so friendly here and often will stop and chat over the fence while taking their dogs for a walk. We have lived in the area for just over a year now and love the feel of the place. We have two beaches nearby that are great for swimming at high tide. There is also the Russell walkway nearby that is very popular. We also walk to the car ferry and go and have brunch in Opua. Down the road is Omata Vineyard which has awesome platters and delicious wines with views to die for.
  • I will highly recommend this comfortable, cosy house with amazing views over the Bay of Islands, beautiful garden and outdoor spaced and everything available that you need - lovely and comfortable bed and bathrooms and a spacy and friendly sitting room and kitchen. It is a peaceful and perfect lication for exploring the Bay of Islands. Thank you very much

Tea Tree Cottage is half way between Paihia and Opua with access to both via the coastal track . It is the perfect base for a walking holiday with many walks in close proximity. You’ll love the cottage as it is quiet and has native bush between it and the water. The place is perfectly set up for couple, twin share or those with a new family (portacot available on request). Accessibility: Please note the cottage is situated down a flight of garden stairs.
The cottage has north and west facing french doors which make the most of the sunshine. You have a deck overlooking native bush and water, and a large claw footed bath to relax in. The cottage has kauri floors, bench and detailing throughout.
Pt Veronica is tucked away at the end of a short peninsula. It is very private with expansive views out over the Bay of Islands. There is a lot of regenerating native bush, birds and walking on offer.
  • Great place to stay! Great views of the bay with access to the observation deck, Opua and Paihia. (The latter, however, easier to reach by car) the property is in perfect condition, sparkling clean and well equipped! Our stay was just great. There are many offers around the Bay and Russel. We particularly liked the sailing tour! The restaurants and shopping in Paihia are excellent.

  • Such a cute space, loved the bathroom decor! Easy to come and go as we pleased and the hosts respected our privacy. So nice to get away to a nice quiet relaxing spot with a beautiful view from the deck, exactly what we needed before heading back to the busy city

  • The most gorgeous little cottage to stay in! Small but beautiful inside and out, perfect for a nature loving couple. Cottage is right next to host house so not overly private especially the deck area however we loved our stay here, loved the claw foot bath, the view from the bed and having dinner out on the deck. Location is great, so easy to get to Paihia and Russell. Thanks to Charles for the tips of what beaches to visit during our stay. They were stunning.

    Zoe2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The photos don’t do this place justice. It’s beautifully located, presented and maintained. Robyn is keen to help and sets out to make sure your stay is comfortable. Probably the most amazing bed we’ve ever had in an Air BnB. There are plenty of small touches that make this place feel homely. It’s central to different walks around the bays and an easy drive to larger towns. Or you could pass your holiday just chilling out on the lovely Bush surrounded verandah. Thanks for a wonderful few nights

My unique home is conveniently located 1 minute from the car ferry and just 8 minutes from Russell town. Nirvana BnB is set in the first settlement capital of New Zealand, Okiato. Capturing panoramic 180° views looking out toward Opua marina you watch the yachts race by day and the shooting stars night. The Weka room titled as native weka stroll the front yard at times right up to the room. I has its own ensuite bathroom and private deck for you to enjoy the lovely view. The house also has its own private access way to the water that can be enjoyed mostly at full tide. *****please note I do also have another room with ensuite and seaviews available, listed as nirvana By the sea - Loft seaview. if you wish to combine these please let me know
5 minutes walk from my place is Okiato, this historic site was the original first capital of New Zealand, located there is the old well and some historic info, you can walk to two beaches surrounding the area. if you like walking there is a boardwalk that goes over water and around the coast to russell town, approx 7km long.

  • The house is better than the pictures. expect a great view, clean and quiet house with a big kitchen to cook. Colette was very nice!!

This is the perfect private holiday retreat. Set amongst the bush clad slopes of the Te Wahapu Peninsula, with no neighbors in view, adjacent to an expansive bush reserve with abundant bird life and only 7 km from the historic Russell Township. Kanuka Loft is a very quiet, peaceful space. A great place to come and do nothing, yet with all the Bay of Islands has to offer at hand.
The Loft is above a large disused timber barn. Built with hand milled timber it has beautiful views and extensive decks for outdoor living. The open plan living and dining area is spacious and comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen. There are two bedrooms, one double with a queen bed and one twin with two singles. There is a heatpump for the winter, a laundry and ample parking.
From Russell Township you are able to enjoy excellent restaurants and cafes, access the many boat trips leaving from the Russell wharf and enjoy the beaches and historic attractions. From Te Wahapu road you can join the Bay of Island Walkway. For cyclists both the Opua rail trail and the Waitangi bike park are nearby.
  • A great place. We can totally recommend. Stunning views from the deck. Peaceful & situated within beautiful grounds.

    Aaron2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely place, beautiful views, very private and close to Russell. The loft is super well equipped, well furnished, bbq and decks for morning and afternoon sun. Much better than expected, would loved to have stayed longer!

    Thomas2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most peaceful time in the Kanuka Loft with beautiful views of the water. We really appreciated the binder of local attractions put together by our hostess—we enjoyed dinner at the Gables, coffee at Pompallier Mission, and a boardwalk among the mangrove trees. Thank you Anna for a wonderful stay!

    Annette2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely private location. Fabulous view.

    Olivier And Sandra2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • I can not recommend this place enough. I really think Anna needs to get better pictures because from the moment you arrive to getting up to the balcony overlooking the Bay of Islands, your jaw is on the floor. It's a really special place and is just a few minutes' drive from Russell itself. Tranquil, beautiful and relaxing. It's worth every penny.

    Ciaran2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • It was absolutely perfect to explore the Bay of Islands. Secluded and private so transport is required but in the evenings we didn’t want to be anywhere else except on the beautiful balcony watching the sunset over the bay. Thank you Anna!

    Glenda2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place has a quite spectacular yet tranquil setting. All amenities were of a high standard and the lodge was very clean. Anna as host is very responsive to queries or general information. Very highly recommended and without hesitation or qualification.

  • Great spot in Paihia. Had everything we needed, including a tv, however, given the heat, we could have used a fan. Also worth nothing it is a very steep walk to get to the space. Again more of a problem in the heat. Highly recommended!

  • This was such a lovely place from which to explore the Bay of Islands. Beautiful cottage and garden, spacious and comfortable accommodation in a quiet environment. Host Steve & Rosemary were very welcoming and were quick to answer any questions we had during our stay. We stayed for a week and were offered fresh towels on a regular basis. Kitchen has all you need and if something you need is missing, you just ask. Beach is walking distance and Russell a 10 min drive. We highly recommend this place.

  • What a fantastic place to have celebrated our 15th anniversary! Like a sanctuary tucked away from the hustle and bustle of life, we found ourselves surrounded by beautiful foliage, amazing birds and a lovely view of the water. The beach was just a few minutes walk through a reserve. Nearby is a lovely winery and the town of Russell with lots to see and do. Steve & Rosemary were the perfect hosts, giving us privacy yet available when we needed them. They also made the visit extra special with their loving touches of bouquets of flowers, and a bottle of wine to celebrate with. There were other extras of tea/coffee, and biscuits! The unit itself was immaculate and we had everything we needed!

The view from their house and terrace is gorgeous. The bedroom is small, but cosy, the beds very comfortable and we slept very well. The bathroom is huge and the little study perfect for working on your laptop. If back to Pahia that´s the place where we would love to stay.

  • Wow - what a spot! Sue and Dale were delightful hosts and so helpful. We just wish we could have stayed longer in what is an amazing place.

    Karen2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Sue and Dale are extremely generous and kind. They went out of their way to help my mother and I by picking us up, dropping us off, giving helpful tips about the area and they even cooked for us! The room is cozy with two twin beds and full of thoughtful touches like outlets on the nightstand and two luggage racks, and the private bathroom has everything you need. The house is neat and clean with a fabulous porch and stunning view, perfect for watching a sunrise or sunset with your beverage of choice. There’s a bit of a walk into town if you’re on foot—20-35 minutes, depending on your speed—with a few hills, but if you like to walk like me, it’s scenic and there’s sidewalk or a wide strip to walk all the way, and Sue literally offered to drop us off or pick us up whenever we needed it, which was beyond generous! Absolutely fantastic hosts with fun travel adventures of their own to share!

    Clara2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning views, great location and outstanding hospitality. The hosts made us feel right at home.

  • If you're lucky enough to stay at Jennie's, you are *supremely* lucky. The pictures here tell a true story of comfort, color and style. The bed is extra comfy and the room cozy. The apartment is tucked up on a lush, tree-filled hill but still only a few minutes walk to downtown Paihia. But the knockout part of the trip was getting to know Jennie. Upon arrival, she picked me up from the bus stop (and greeted me with a hug!), had a cold glass of wine in my hand and helped me plan an unforgettable three days in the Bay of Islands--all in under an hour. She made me a nourishing, fresh-fruit breakfast each morning and was just as thoughtful in anticipating and attending to anything else I might need. Even better, she's a blast to hang out with (as is her close friend and next-door neighbor, Mary--I would book again just to have another laugh-filled chat with them both). Sometimes flying solo can be daunting, but this is the fastest I've felt at home while on the road. If you're still reading this, don't wait, book!

    Meg2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, stylish, clean place! Absolutely loved my short stay here. Jennie is lovely and will make you feel welcome from the moment you meet. Highly recommend!

  • Jennie is an exceptional host and this space was magical! Jennie was so welcoming, gracious, and full of tips and ideas for things to see and do. She even gave me a walking tour of town and pointed out some of her favorite spots. It was a short walk into town and it was really nice to not have to drive during my time in Paihia. Her balcony with the chair swing was my favorite of all and I had to convince myself to actually get moving and go tour around instead of just relax with the serene view. This place is perfect for the solo female traveler looking for a cozy and stylish home away from home with easy access to town and beach. I would love to stay here again!

    Stephanie2020-02-25T00:00:00Z

  • Jennie was an outstanding host and very kind and attentive. She prepared breakfast and even left some lights on for to find my way around when I had to get up early for a sightseeing tour. Her apartment is absolutely charming. It is beautifully decorated but also quite centrally located. It is about a 5 to 10 minutes walk away from the maritime building in Paihia.

Opua is an idyllic spot from which to walk, exploring the rain forests of the Harrison Scenic Reserve, or the coastal curiosities found along the Coastal Walking Path, which runs from Opua around the bay to Paihia and beyond. • What an amazing stay, all of the special touches were so lovely. It is such a beautiful place in a great location for exploring. Terry is a fountain of local knowledge. We will definitely be back for longer next time.

    Phillippa2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Terry was the perfect AirBnb host and could not have been more helpful. The apartment was spacious and very well stocked with condiments for cooking, games, and shower essentials. They were also able to provide a travel cot for us which was perfect for our 5 month old Daughter. Terry is knowledgeable on local attractions and even made us cake on our arrival which was delicious. And if you have never seen the moon through a telescope, like me... just ask Terry and I’m sure he will lend you his telescope as we enjoyed a fabulous sight of a full moon.

  • Great place to stay. Terry is an absolute gem of a man. Could not be more helpful. Full of good stories. No better way to get a local feel for the area. Highly recommend

    Nick2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • The unit was spotless, well equipped, in a great location and exceeded all of our expectations. We were a group of 3 mature cyclists intent on cycling the Coast to Coast trail. Terry was always there to help; from helping us relocate our vehicle to the end of the track to picking up one of the bikes at the end of the track. Five star service at a very reasonable price. Our only regret was not asking Terry to help us plan our visit/cycle trip. In hindsight, we would have stayed longer, 2 nights, taken the ferry with our bikes over to Russell, skipped the first 35 kms (day) of the trail, had Terry shuttle us over to Kaikohe for the second section of the trail, and spent a third day at the Horeke end of the trail exploring Rawhia. The trail is well marked but the first day is not very interesting. Definitely cycle the trail from the east to the west to avoid the major uphills on the Horeke end of the trail. Nothing is too much trouble for Terry. If he doesn’t know something he will find out the answer to your questions. He is dedicated to his guests and has lots of helpful suggestions and contacts in the area. Sincere thanks.

  • This studio is actually a part of Peppertree lodge, but it's a bit separated from other rooms. As there are a lot of people at the lodge we were expecting it to be a bit noisy, but not at all. It was really quiet and the studio was nice. Had everything we needed. Parking is on the street on front and it's free. You will probably find a place. The location is great, only a few min. from the beach and about 10 to the center.

There are times when I am not home, but guests are still welcome to stay.
Our home is humble. Our view is magnificent!
  • A lovely relaxed and peaceful home to stay over. We loved having the ferry close by. The view is truly amazing. Andrea is a welcoming and friendly host and easy to communicate with.

    Pamela2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent getaway, and as stated right at the ferry stop when you cross in the ferry. Views are spectacular, with everything you need at your fingertips. 8kms from Russell, but the drive was beautiful. Used it as it base for chartered fishing. Able to bring our kingfish back to share, cook and eat.

  • Andrea is a very experienced and exceptional host. She made us feel perfectly at home, immediately adding some thoughtful touches for my wife who was nursing a broken foot. The location and view were breathtaking and the facilities outstanding. We can't wait to return.

    Stephen2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great value for money. Lovely host and a very relaxing stay, the lounge is the perfect place to read a book and look over the harbour.

    Ronan And Angie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Directly above the pier, the view is great! The island is short of water, so the pipes are all stored rainwater. The room is small, but the price can't be too high, drink coffee on the balcony and look at the sea!

    Chenhe2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this home away from home! Really is a gorgeous place to stay and Russell is so close by! Andrea was very helpful and so kind!

    Lynn2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

Welcome Aboard our self-contained unit for 4 people. Hosts live above. Plenty of parking for boat and 6 minutes to the sea, hook up a catch for the day. Come and relax in the bay, with lots to do and see, including the local trike tour rides for a different wave! If summer doesn't inspire a near clinical obsession with the water, then we don't know what does! Enjoy your visit & may all who enter as guests leave as friends. Included 1st days necessities for your pleasure.
Nautical Themed Unit with plenty of space to get out and walk around the gardens and admire the roses, bush and ocean scenery. Enjoy a BBQ and a refreshing beverage with outdoor darts and chill out on the swing chair
Great views from the elevated section, lots of native birds visiting. Quiet and respected neighborhood. Lovely short walk to the local town, restaurants, bars and tourist information centers.
  • Craig & Jo’s place was lovely. Beautiful view and very close to the small town of Paihia with all of its attractions. Jo was extremely kind, helpful and accommodating and simply a lovely person to chat with. The space was clean and roomy. We highly recommend it.

Has a great area for BBQ and outdoor eating for warm evenings. Close to the centre of Paihia. You can’t go wrong staying here, kiwi hospitality at its best. Thanks guys.

The house is located in the Paihia in the quiet suburb of Te Haumi overlooking the bay. Te Haumi is a 4 min drive from Paihia village with its beaches, many restaurants and the wharf for trips in the Bay of Islands. The car ferry to Russell is also only a short drive away in Opua. The guest studio is at the back of the house and enjoys views of the bush and has amazing views across the bay over to Russell. You will have your own entrance, a private deck and your own en-suite bathroom.
The newly decorated room has a queen sized bed, tea and coffee making facilities, cereals, a fridge and seating area, free WiFi, Freeview satellite TV and a walk in wardrobe. The house has a ventilation system for constant air exchange and the windows in your room have insect screens. You can enjoy your breakfast or a glass of wine on your private deck while soaking up the breathtaking scenery. You can even enjoy the views from the comfort of your bed! Sorry no smoking on the premises.
The neighborhood of Te Haumi is well liked for its quiet surroundings and beautiful views. While being close to all Paihia has to offer it is far enough away from the hustle and bustle during the busy summer month. Other sights nearby are Haruru Falls, Waitangi Treaty grounds and the beautiful Waitangi Golf course, all within a 10min drive. Kerikeri with its many waterfalls and the historic Stone Store is only a 25min drive away.
  • Bernd place was just as advertised, great view of the Bay. The bathroom is well done with very nice tiles. The shower is beautiful and works well . Bernd supplied all the breakfast items including milk! Highly recommended.

  • Wow, what a view, worth the price alone. Really lovely suite with everything you need and great hospitality too.

    Ian2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Really a very good B&B. You need a car but that's a good thing because you're not in the middle of the tourist center. 5 minutes drive and you are in the middle of Paihia. Bernd was super nice. The room is great, everything you need, super clean and great view. Was very happy.
