  • This was our first Airbnb experience and it was a great one. We found the house to be very clean and well organized. It is in a good location in a quiet neighborhood a short distance to a beach. Communication from the owners was nice and timely.

  • Very nice house. Spotless. Excellent location. My kids really enjoyed playing at the beach which is crossing the street. There is an ice cream shop, a Mexican restaurant, a KFC, a minigolf place, a water spray and a playground within walking distance. We are definitely coming back.

This home is a hidden gem in the woods. It is a true four seasons cottage with great open water fishing spring through fall, watersports in the summer, beautiful colors in the fall, and ice fishing and snowmobiling in the winter. There is complete privacy as the lot is in the cove with no neighbors to the right, and I also own the undeveloped (fully wooded) lot to the left. It is not a place you will find on your gps. It is about 7 miles to the village of Hillman where there are a couple of bars, gas stations, and grocery stores. Chauncey’s is the larger bar/restaurant with good bar food and pizza. Hi-Way Inn has l cheap drinks and a great local ambiance. It is about 30 miles to Alpena where there is a Walmart, Home Depot, etc.

Our place is on Long Lake in Alpena/Presque Isle area, less than 10 miles from downtown Alpena and Lake Huron. Perfect for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families with children. The lake is an all sports (stocked) lake with great fishing. There is a dock available (seasonal) for your use and several boat launches nearby. The area is perfect for ice fishing and snowmobiling in the winter. We are also close to state hunting land.
We are new owners of this adorable little A-Frame on Long Lake. It is a cozy year round cottage with plenty of space inside to be comfortable. We have two bedrooms upstairs (queen bed in each room). The stairs are a bit steep so we provide a futon on the main floor along with a baby gate in the closet to keep tiny tots safe. We have a grill outside on the deck with outdoor seating (seasonal) and a fire pit. Enjoy the beautiful, relaxing views of the lake - if you are from a more populated area, you will be surprised at how many stars you see at night! We live in the home next door and share the driveway, however, there is a fence on the property line to provide you with privacy. There is a wire fence and foliage on the other side to separate our yard from the other neighbor. We provide wireless internet, a Roku for streaming television content and a DVD player for your use. There is a video store in downtown Alpena as well as two RedBox locations.
Our lake is an all sports lake. This means you can have a blast swimming, water skiing, tubing, jet skiing, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing (including ice fishing) or just chilling on your boat or floaty. We are across the lake from a marina with gas and watercraft rental. There are two restaurants on the lake (accessible by boat or car) and we are also close to a seasonal small grocery/convenience store. On beautiful summer days, the sandbar at the south end of the lake ("the sandies") is a gathering place for pontoons and other boats. Sometimes you can even find live music coming from one of the pontoons.
  • Elizabeth’s place was just perfect for our needs. We had the perfect provisions for our winter getaway. The sun rose in my bedroom window over the frozen lake each morning and there were plenty of amenities within a short distance. We had a great time and will be back!

    Anna2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable space with a great view of the lake.

    Kenneth2020-02-23T00:00:00Z

    David2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed for a week during the winter, so I wasn't able to use the lake, but it's lovely view, and a beautiful sunrise. There is a mini-market in walking distance, and a bar/restaurant less than a mile away, so once you're there, you really don't need to go far. It is however, just a 15 minute drive into Alpena, and they have a huge binder of resources of things to do, places to eat, etc., in the area. The cottage was very neat, and well stocked. I hope to be able to visit in the summer.

    Cheryl2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts are very accommodating and the cabin was extremely clean. The location is excellent and there was enough space to park 3 vehicles and a trailer. Also, we could access the lake from the cabin. A great place to stay!

    Jim2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place is awesome. Many thanks for the useful travel guide. The view is great and this place has a convenient grocery store right across the house.

    Yevhenii2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely enjoyed my stay. I was in the area for work and was able to come back every day to cook and relax in a cozy warm cabin. The lake view was beautiful and it was easy access. I highly recommend if you are look for a quiet get away in a small home, cozy and quiet

Also, you are within 15 miles away from Lake Huron, State Parks and some of Michigan's finest golf courses.

  • Quiet, clean, restful, and relaxing getaway at the lake! We were attending a wedding at the Churchill Pointe Inn (a 2 minute drive, or 10 minute walk away) and this place was the perfect location. The decks, the view, the dock, and the very cozy, comfortable interior were all wonderful for our stay. Note that it is still a more traditional place Up North (think boardgames, not TV, using care with the septic system, bringing plenty of bug spray for outdoor activities, and with mattresses that could be a little stiff, though the Wi-Fi was decent enough to watch a football game on a tablet) but you could not find a more fun getaway on the lake. Thanks!

    Matthew2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Hubbard house is a great Airbnb for one to enjoy with family or friends that is right on the lake. There are plenty of spaces outside to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. Having the ability to use the kayaks and the canoe was fantastic, along with having plenty of chairs for you to use outside, along with plenty of firewood for bonfires. A few things to keep in mind: 1. If you are going here and rain may be in the forecast, there is no TV for you to plug in a firestick or watch movies on. 2. If you have a difficult time climbing stairs (bad back, knees, etc.) and you are planning on renting this place for the lake and lake experience, this probably isn't the house for you. There are many stairs to climb from the water to get to the house along with slippery, sharp rocks in the water where you would walk.

    Natalia2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • My family had a great time! It is absolutely true… The cleanliness was amazing! And, Vikki’s thoroughness in all details was spot on.

    Diane2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • I could not have asked for more. Both decks enclose to keep dogs secure, which allowed us to relax and not worry they were roaming too far while sitting with them. The boathouse has everything needed to kayak, canoe, and throw a line in the water. My 10-year-old enjoyed all that. She had been asking the past two years to take our dogs on vacation and this was the perfect place to make that happen. My 11-year-old found many shady spots to lounge and read. It was great to get him out of the house and still allow him to do what he enjoys.

RECENTLY PAINTED! Come stay at our seasonal two bedroom cottage on the lake. Here you will have full access to northern Michigan on the water. Our cottage sleeps six (one queen bed, one full size bed and a double size futon). Enjoy the sunrise side next to the the calm water, swim, explore the area and end the night with a fire as the loons sing in the distance.
The cottage is on lake front property with a dock. There is a boat rental place in the area if guest are interested in spending the day on the water. Guests are also welcome to swim, just be sure to wear water shoes! The lake is clear and gets up to 150 feet deep in areas. There are some zebra muscles. We have various pairs of water shoes for guests and the general store has some for sale if we don't have your size.
We love spending time in the outdoors during the spring, summer and fall season. If you like hiking, spending time on the water or relaxing while the waves crash on the beach, you're going to love it here!
  • Really enjoyed our stay at this cottage. Great location just steps from the water.

  • A lovely cabin in a great spot right on the lake. Quiet and serene, Kaitlin’s place gave us the perfect opportunity to have some much needed downtime in the middle of our busy roadtrip across the States. Cozy and comfortable with prompt communication from Kaitlin. We would definitely stay here again.

    Priya2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time at this cottage! Hubbard Lake is beautiful, and the cottage itself was spotless and had a super cute and comfortable decor. It's about a 10-minute drive from the general store too, which is handy. Would highly recommend!

    Sarah2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute! We loved this little place. Since it's older, it had a few quirks, but it was still lovely! Beautiful sunroom with gorgeous view, cute little kitchen, and great spot to float in the water. Kaitlin was a very attentive host who answered our questions quickly, even once we were there and needed help. We'd love to come again some time!

    Rachel2019-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is perfectly quaint, comfortable and super clean! The hosts are amazing and seem to go above and beyond. The sunrises are unlike any that I've ever seen. This cottage and it's hosts will not leave you disappointed by any means and I can't wait to book it again.

    Paula2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was truly one of the nicest places to stay at on the Lake. The afternoons are perfect for grilling and enjoying the company of your loved ones. The nights are best spent on the fire or in the living room with the windows open so you can hear the lake at night. Kaitlin was very responsive and helpful with answering any and all my questions. Will DEFINITELY be back soon!!

A quaint cabin nestled in the woods. With navigable water 200 yards form your front door, for fishing(not great fishing from shore), kayaking or canoeing. 500 acres of state land across the dirt road with atv trails, hiking or hunting. Have a fire outside and roast marshmallows. Keep warm at night with the wood burning fireplace. A cabin with all of the joys of the rustic woods with the comforts you need. There is also electric and water hook ups for a camper or RV but no sewer.
This good space for a family or a group of 4 adults who enjoy out door activities and the beauty of nature. One full bed, one single bunk on top of the full and, two nice cots can be set-up too.
No neighbors... No traffic...maybe see one or two trucks drive by a day. Lots of deer, squirrels, sandhill cranes and woodcock can seen.
  • I can’t say enough about this little cabin!! Definitely not for everyone but if you want to totally detach from the routine this is the place to do it!! Amazing scenery, so much nature and beautiful sunsets! The stars are so bright and close!!! We found a house close by that sold firewood and even used the wood stove and made a pot roast! We can’t wait to go back!

  • A great little cabin down a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. Dark skies for stargazing and a pond with loads of sandhill cranes. Peaceful and quaint; Just what i was hoping for.

    Casey2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin really is the perfect place to get away for a while. The land it is situated on is absolutely beautiful and very peaceful especially with the fall color change. The cabin itself has alot more amenities than you would expect for a cabin in the woods. It has everything you would need are a week in the woods. Brian is a great host and really provides quite a bit in this cabin. I can wait until the next time I stay here.

    Andrew2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • If you are wanting a simple and peaceful pause from everyday life this is the perfect place! We experienced sunrises serenaded by Sandhill Cranes, deer grazing in the front yard after dark, and a crakling fireplace to warm the cool autumn nights. Very lovely!

When you enter the back door, you will go up a few steps to another door that locks off your private space. The basement has the washer/drier that I use a couple times a week for massage linens, but you just need to let me know when you need it and I will ensure it is ready for you!
Historic homes surround us that reflect back to the lumber barons and water travel from earlier days. Our shoreline has not been sold to high rise hotels as has happened in other lakeshore communities. This has greatly helped the local folks preserve the community charm but has made it difficult for out of town guests to enjoy the full flavor of all Alpena has to offer. Our Airbnb options will place you in the location to take the advantage of everything Alpena has to offer. The bike trail is directly outside your door and the three beaches are just steps away!
  • Tamy is a great host! She is a quick communicator and very thoughtful. Her space is easy to access and very clean!

  • Great place and one of the best hosts!

    Cheryl2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Tammy is a great host. super clean space, easy check-in/out, comfortable space, good location, plenty of parking, washer/dryer if you need it, bright kitchen (careful, the smoke detectors are sensitive and really loud), tons of extra touches, and even a complementary bottle of local wine!

    Andrew2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Tamy's house was absolutely wonderful! The place was spotless and right across the street from Lake Huron. The sunrises were beautiful in the morning as they came right through the front window! Very nice touches such as a welcoming bottle of wine from the local Thunder Bay Winery! House was well stocked and comfortable and the beds were extremely comfy! Would recommend this house and will definitely stay there again!

    Pamela2019-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • Loved it and will stay again! Location is awesome and close to downtown. Stylish decor. Comfortable beds. Very clean and appears to be freshly remodeled. Gorgeous oversized baseboards and trim. Love that we could see the waves from the window and we were just a few doors away from Thompson Beach. Plenty of parking in paved lot behind the home, also belonging to owners.

    Michelle2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Tamy is a great host! She's extremely easy to communicate with, and the house was even better than I expected! It's centrally located in town, was very clean, and was a very nice space. Check-in and check-out was a breeze. I'd definitely stay there again!

    Mark2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Tamy clearly cares a lot about her guest experience! She goes out of her way to make sure everything about the place is perfect. I am one that prefers to cook while I'm away from home and her kitchen was fully stocked with everything kitchen appliance and utensil I could hope for! Not only that but there was the bonus of great organic coffee and a bottle of wine. We truly felt like we were very special guests! Not only that but the location is fantastic and we were able to actually talk to a handful of places!!

    Jackie2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Tamy’s House is in a great location. It was walking distance to the beach and downtown and only 1.7 miles from a Meijer! The house was beautiful and comfortable and the coffee that was provided was superb! Our kids keep asking to go back to the vacation house!

Our apartment is located above our family business where we offer chiropractic, massage and nutritional counseling. It's situated between Blair Street Pier and Thompson Park, just a couple blocks from the marina, band shell and downtown. We also live in a home next door, so we are available for help with directions or recommendations if you like, provided we are in town. Summer or winter, this location is ideal for people who love the quaintness of a small town all within walking distance.
This historic building in Alpena has served as an iconic gathering place for locals throughout the years. To the best of our knowledge, it once served as a gas station, meat market and in recent history, it was called the "Cap & Bottle", which was a local party store and place where kids went to buy penny candy on their way to and from the beach. We bought the building after the downstairs had been gutted and remodeled into a law office. Now, we have begun the process of updating the two apartments upstairs. This one listed, has recently been updated with new windows and flooring and of course, had our own personal touch added to the decor in an attempt to make the most of the wonderful lake views. This is an upstairs location and not handicapped accessible. A private entrance is locked street side for both you and the tenant who lives across the hall. Summer offers a steady stream of festivals and activities that make it a wonderful location for anyone exploring this region of the state! Alpena has no hotels available lakeside, so our apartment gives the travelers a one of a kind opportunity to enjoy the best Alpena has to offer! We even offer a discount for guest who would like a massage, provided times are available. This is wonderful after a day of cross country skiing or kayaking and a must for the business traveler! Grab your casual clothes and take advantage of our services offered just a short walk down the stairs and around to the business entrance!
Historic homes surround us that reflect back to the lumber barons and water travel from days. Our shoreline has not been sold to high rise hotels as has been the case in other lakeshore communities. This has greatly helped the local folks preserve the community charm but has not made it easy for the traveler to fully enjoy all we have to offer. Our rental helps you do just that!

  • Tamy's space was perfect for our family of 4. It was within walking distance of several parks, the pier and downtown. It had a full kitchen and was very clean, there were even toys for my kiddos to play with. It was very easy to check in and out and Tamy was very responsive. We would absolutely stay here or another one of Tamy's properties again!

  • Very clean and comfortable apartment!

    Joanne2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Really not much more to say than what other reviews stated, but it’s those reviews that made me pick the place. Check in is effortless as there’s a lock box. The place is super clean and cozy. Great location within feet of two parks and the lake. Hosts are super friendly and quick to respond to any needs. Highly recommend this place and the hosts.

  • We had a wonderful stay! Tamy was very accommodating and filled us in on the kid friendly activities in the area. There are a couple beaches within walking distance, one with a splash pad that our kids loved. The downtown area is also within walking distance. It was the perfect spot for us and we will definately be coming back!

  • Amanda's place was a perfect find for a wedding we were attending in Hillman. My husband and I met up with some other family members who were also out of town and enjoyed our stay. Home was very clean and comfortable and I particularly loved the cupboard full of clean linens/pillows/blankets/towels... everything that you could need to add additional comfort to your stay! The pool table was a nice touch and the master suite is sooooo spacious! Amanda was also great about accommodating a modified check-in/check-out time and we SO appreciated that! Would recommend to anyone looking for a stay in Hillman.

  • Our family (parents 40’s, kids 14 & 10) really enjoyed our days and nights at this unique and cozy home! We had plenty of room to spread out after a day of driving into Alpena, or our gorgeous, snowless, windless day waking the downtown streets of Gaylord! Decompressing after a big Florida vacation and Christmas, this was such a nice, relaxing place. Bottom line: would stay again!

  • The place was amazing and what an ideal location. Picturesque wooded area but yet not too far away from stores and restaurants. Took the family for an ice fishing trip and would live to visit again in the summer to enjoy the river right out back. Jenny was very informative and accommodating:) Thank you for having us!

This is a 3 bedroom/2bathroom home on a very private/secluded lot located on Long Lake in Hillman MI. There is approximately 175’ lake frontage that is partially sandy, so you can definitely swim right here in the swimming area by the dock. We are also within walking distance of Ess Lake State Park where there is a nice beach for swimming, and plenty of trails for hiking and biking. The boat launch is close by, so bring your boat with you. We also have a pontoon that is available for rent.
This is a very scenic/secluded family get away kind of place. If you are into swimming, boating, fishing, or just some quiet relaxation around the campfire; this is the place for you. We have a swing set, volleyball/badminton net, and a big sand hill for the children to enjoy. You will see deer & blue jays right outside the window most days. There is a boat launch very close by, so that you can bring your boat with you. Two kayaks provided at no charge. Bring your ATVs too, because close by there are trails! We have recently added WiFi to our property. This is LIMITED DATA USAGE WIFI. We realized that we are remotely located and for safety sake we wanted a way to stay connected. Most smartphones now have WiFi calling capabilities, so you can connect. (There is a REDBOX kiosk available for movie rentals)
We are located down a private drive. We share our driveway entrance at the top with a lodge. Very friendly people :)
  • Keith and Amy were great hosts who provided very timely instructions and responses to queries. The location was fairly quiet most of the time. The sandy access to Long Lake, floating dock, and kayaks are excellent amenities!

    Rajesh2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to hang out with family. There is a lot to do outside for the whole family. Please make sure that you follow the directions that are given or the GPS will take you to a campground. I would recommend this place and look forward to book again.

    Tommy2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn't be happier with our stay. Just what our family needed. A beautiful get away. Secluded and of the lake. Loons singing in the evening. Kids enjoyed swimming, fishing and yard games. Highly recommend.

    Travis2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our family stayed at Keith and Amy's place for a week in early August. It was a total gem and I definitely recommend! We really enjoyed use of the pontoon boat for fishing and boat rides. It was nice to have to just sit in the shade on the dock as well. Having a washer and dryer was a TOTAL bonus. We loved the firepit and they had plenty of wood stocked. The lake is gorgeous... we loved going to the island and throwing in the anchor and going for a swim. They have a ton of movies stocked and the kids were happy with wifi, too! Very remote location. Near a boat launch but not a lot of traffic. Fishing was so-so but the kids caught a ton of frogs. The bait shop in town (the one we found) didn't sell minnows. I totally recommend this place but I love detailed airbnb reviews so here are a few extra thoughts 1. We brought our outdoor mesh tent we could put chairs in it at night when the mosquitos came out (around 9 in early August) 2. Grocery store locally is pretty light on produce so definitely pack that 3. Ask Keith for fishing tips! We should have done that earlier in our stay 4. Don't attempt to wash dishes, do laundry and shower... the water pressure is pretty light 5. If you are a large family bring a little extra toilet paper 6. They have lots of towels for baths and even a few extra for outdoors 7. They have an AC unit... It isn't huge so my advice is to turn it on before it warms up to prevent the house from getting too hot. 8. We did have some geese activity, make sure you put the rope up on the beach when not in use. Our dog helped scare them off too which was good!

    Liz2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place. We enjoyed the large outdoor space and privacy. Our family loved the place. Lots of things to do, the beach area is great for little ones. We will be back.

    Jennifer2019-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time staying at the house. The place was spacious and the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed the games and puzzles that were made available on the one rainy day of our stay. The house was secluded and we appreciated the quiet when we were drinking coffee and listening to the loons in the morning. We really enjoyed the wildlife, except for the Canadian geese, which proved to be quite a nuisance with their droppings. We swam right off the dock and were able to use our paddle board to explore the lake. There were plenty of seating options, so don't worry about bringing camping chairs. Overall, we would definitely recommend Keith and Amy's place!

    Holly2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Very kid friendly! My toddlers loved being right on the water and have a swing set to play with!

This place would be great for a large family or group to get away form the noise of the city. Located on 40 acres with a pond that the kids can even fish in and plenty of wild life to see, Located just a few short miles from Lake Huron, Hubbard Lake and a large trail system for snowmobiles, quads and other off road vehicles. Great place to just sit back and relax. We do NOT allow deer hunting, We have another called Lions Den Hunt Club, with 80 acres and Huge Bucks on m65 Curran to hunt.
This property is beautiful during all seasons, Deer walk right up to the house and eat from many apple trees located in the yard, Pond is stocked with Blue Gil if you want to wet a line.
The home is very quiet and off the beaten path, at the very end of a dead end road. The closest neighbors homes are a 20 acres away so having a large group outdoors, noise will not be an issue.
  • Great Place to hold an event. Great space and beautiful view

  • This place looked nice online, but was even more beautiful in person. Beautiful scenery, clean house, very comfortable beds, and the master bedroom suite and outdoor hot tub was amazing! We are definitely coming back and bringing our kids along next time to fish in the pond outside.

    Andrea2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Buffys house exceeded my thoughts and expectations! The home was spacious for the 10 people we had! Plenty of bed spaces! We were surprised to find out there were actually 5 beds instead of four in the big room! Lots of property to explore! Went on a nice hike out in nature and enjoyed the silence! Lots of deer were seen on the property! Great communication when we had questions. We had a problem with the hot tub turning off on us and Dave was quick to come over and change the filter and show us how to fill the hot tub when it got low! The hot tub was perfect and fit about 6 people in it. We got lost getting to the property because our gps thought it was somewhere it wasn’t! Just follow the road till it dead ends into the house. We will most definitely be back!

    Amber2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was an incredible place for my family. We had a lot of people and it held all of us well! We will definitely be coming back down the road!

    Perry2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the private and peaceful location. It was perfect for our women's leadership team retreat with lots of space for everyone. Everything was clean and welcoming. We enjoyed the hot tub in the midst of a January snow storm. We hope to come back again!

    Michelle2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This house is in a beautiful secluded wooded area, we loved it. Lying in bed in the morning and watching the deer wander around was an added bonus too. Snow on New Years Eve was nice while we were in the hot tub. House is well equipped, with everything you might need, including plenty of towels. A great time to relax and be together as a family and have some quality time. Buffy's communication was great too, we will be back

  • Truly a private getaway! We hiked the property every day with our dog, comfortably watched football and Stranger Things on the Roku TV, and played board games at the kitchen table. Great family bonding trip! NOTE: It is a long drive to nearest grocery store, so I suggest you bring your groceries with you so you don’t waste any of your vacation time at this awesome property!

Quaint one bedroom log cabin nestled on the edge of hardwoods. Sits on a knoll overlooking Grand Lake w/ private campfire (wood available to purchase). Dock provides access to lake for boating. Kayaks/paddle board/paddle boat available to use upon request. Swimming is available at nearby beaches, hiking trails are nearby, and the Presque Isle Lighthouse & Harbor are just a few miles away. Monthly discounts available. Minimum stay of four nights in the summer and 2 nights spring/fall.
You will enter the property off Whiskey Point Rd and follow a beautiful 10th of a mile meandering driveway through hardwoods. The cabin shares space with our primary residence on the property. The cabin is located on top of the knoll, with our house 75 yards further down the hill. Pine trees and a fountain are located between the cabin and our house, creating for a quiet private setting. Parking is located next to the cabin with a 30 yard walk. The private dock, to be used for boating purposes only, is located 100 yards away from the cabin. This is the only cabin on the property.
This location is a quaint area with many nearby activities. As far as restaurants, there is the Fireside Inn a half mile down the road that serves breakfast and dinner. It's nice to walk there in the evening to enjoy a lakeside meal. There is the Hideaway Bar and Grill 7 miles away; the town of Alpena is 15 miles south and the town of Rogers City is about 20 miles north. There is also the small town of Presque Isle 3 miles away that has a park, tennis court, basketball court, library, small grocery store, and a place to order pizza. About 6 miles away is the Presque Isle Harbor with two historic Lighthouses, an ice cream shop, charter boats to reserve for big lake fishing (recommendations available), and a full restaurant overlooking the harbor. It's nice after a relaxing dinner to walk along the harbor docks to see all of the boats from all over the Midwest. As far as nearby activities, there are hiking trails for bird watching and observing rare wild flowers in the area. We will have a binder in the cabin with areas of interest for you to check out. We will also be available to help you navigate the area and answer questions on what is available to do. There is the NOAA center in Alpena on the Thunder Bay River that has a great display of boating history of the Great Lakes as well as a glass bottom boat cruise that you can take out on Lake Huron to view shipwrecks. There are also great biking trails, both in Alpena as well as Rogers City. There's lighthouses, beaches, and waterfalls to explore in the surrounding area as well. If you want to take in a day at Mackinac Island while you're here, the ferry dock is just over an hour away and offers a wonderful day excursion.
  • If you want to stay in a cute and cozy cabin and still have plenty of room, this is the place! It is back in the woods, down a curvy black-topped driveway, on a lake but still has plenty of outside lighting to get in and out. Also, it’s very private and quiet.....even though the owners are just a short distance away. The owners, Dave and Jen, were quick to answer any questions we had. It was very well stocked and the linens were fresh and clean. We enjoyed using the Fiestaware dishes for our meals. It was a little sad when we had to leave after our 4-night stay!

Great place to vacation on the best part of Long Lake. Cottage is cozy, and clean with private driveway. Deck off the back for relaxing and watching the sunset. Water front is clean, sandy, and near the sandies. Great for swimming.
The cozy cottage is on the best part of long lake. The water is Sandy and shallow for quite a ways out. The sunsets are worth the relaxing vacation here at the cottage.
Neighbor are close but very friendly. They do have pets of there own also.
  • Charming, quiet location with incredible sunsets. A small little cottage, that is just right if you're looking to escape the hubbub of the city or suburban area. Expect to be outdoors, or sitting down with a very good book.

    Julie2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Sunset better than described :) then gazing at the stars was awesome too. We really enjoyed the lake, location and fire pit! Decent fishing lake as well - Nice cabin and will be back!

  • This cottage is in the perfect spot on Long Lake. If you need a place to stay in Alpena, this cottage is so much better than staying in a motel. The hosts do a great job of welcoming you! The sunsets are spectacular and the water is perfect for swimming, sandy and shallow.

    Denise2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Super great hosts

    Shannon2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect weekend getaway, close to downtown Alpena to enjoy local restaurants and coffee. We were lucky enough to catch the summer music in the park. The best part about this spot is enjoying the evening sunset with an ice cold beverage as it is truly amazing!

    Tucker2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • This cozy place is located on the best part of Long Lake. The water is crystal clear and the sand is soft. You can walk out a long way into the lake without the water getting deep. Ideal for kids! The neighbors are very close but overly helpful and friendly. Melissa supplied pretty much everything and anything you may need including water toys for the kids. The sunsets are amazing. We spent many nights out at the fire pit watching the sun go down across the lake. This place is a hidden gem for a summer lake vacation 😊

    Daniel2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay for a cozy little retreat. The hosts and accommodations were great and the sunsets were unbeatable. It made our 4th of July the best yet as a family. We will be back for sure!

  • I don't even know where to start... I have never had such a wonderful experience with an Airbnb stay or host. Andrea and her husband went above and beyond to make sure our stay was enjoyable. We were looking for a peaceful, private, quiet place to stay and relax and we found the Perfect place (location and amenities). We absolutely enjoyed the fire-pit with the gorgeous lake view. We also went kayaking and it was just magical. The cabin itself was spotless. Very very comfortable beds that was extremely important for us. You pretty much could find anything you may need in the kitchen. The interior design and all the little touches made it an incredible and memorable family getaway for us. I highly recommend this cozy cabin and I am certain that we will be back soon.

Flanked by two large ponds, a waterfall, and picturesque views, you'll be sure to return. There's a game room downstairs with tons of wall decor and conversation pieces. • Quite the piece of property here at Joel's. It's basically all handcrafted and very nice. Plenty of room for people, although I was there alone to reset from the hustle and bustle of everyday city life. Great location. 2 ponds and plenty of fish and wildlife. I really enjoyed my stay.

    Jason2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Joel is hands down the best host ever. Joel graciously allowed me to use his property for my wedding reception and it could not have been a more beautiful property for it. My guests loved hanging around the game room and walking around the ponds and property. He constantly went above and beyond to assist with anything we needed and help out with logistics. Aside from all that, Joel is also an incredible kind, cool, and laid back guy. This is the perfect spot to have a nice and relaxing weekend or a fun event with friends. 11/10 recommend

  • Paul is a great host with almost spontaneous reply, when anytime we tried to reach him prior to and during our stay. Staying in a boat is a great concept, if you have not done it before. Sipping a cup of coffee on the top of the boat, with a nice week of the lake, in the early morning is very refreshing. We created a lifetime memory with our teenager kids.

  • The cabin was a great place to stay. We loved being by the water. The cabin was very clean. We had a great time.

    Lisa2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • THE VIEW! 😍 This cottage is RIGHT on the water. The view of the lake is visible from almost any room in the house! Such a restorative spot. The dock on the property extends far enough for boats and late night star gazing over a clean lake that’s large enough to accommodate water sports without seeming crowded. The cottage was sparkling and had thoughtful touches throughout to make you feel cozy and at home. We spent almost every morning sipping coffee in the sun room, watching the sun come up and listening to the lake splash against the shore. There isn’t a fire pit for fires, but a propane grill for when you want to cook over a flame. Cell reception was good, even for T Mobile customers, and WiFi is available in the cottage. Communication with the host was stellar. Jennifer allowed for an earlier check in and also pointed us in the direction of some delicious spots to pick up smoked white fish. We preferred to stay close to the cottage and enjoy the peace and quiet, but there are plenty of day trips in the vicinity. Civilization is close by, but the cottage is peaceful and was exactly what we needed! We recommend and would love to return!

  • Charlie's Cottage is wonderful. We had a great time! You won't want to leave!

    Karen2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • We thought the cabin was perfect. It was what we've always like about a lake cabin. It was warm, rustic, woody, cozy and charming. We like that it was a mix of all kinds of furniture, lighting, and knickknacks. The deck was shaded from the hot and it was comfortable to hang out on. The kitchen had everything we needed and everything was tidy and clean. the beds were comfortable and the surroundings were quiet and peaceful. The lake was clear, warm to swim in and free of weeds. I can't think of anything we were lacking. We thought Jennifer was an excellent hostess and we will go there again. It is a great place.

    Patrick2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very beautiful rustic cabin! Tastefully decorated with thoughtful touches. Friendly hosts. Beautiful lake. Beautiful view. Nice deck. Nice dock. Pretty flowers. Everything was really clean. Dishes, dish towels, etc provided were all nice and in good shape. Nice furniture. Nice outdoor chairs and table. You can tell it has been remodeled with thoughtful owners. Very pretty. It’s well advertised, but even cuter in person. We enjoyed walking to the park and party store. Entertaining lake with a restaurant on it that you can get to by boat. Fun Sandbar areas. We loved exploring the lake.

    Ginger2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage exceeded our expectations in every aspect. I highly recommend booking your stay here

    Luke2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer and Nick were great. The discription of the property is accurate. The property has a nice lakefront and dock to tie up my rental pontoon from Grand Lake Marina. If a rustic stay is what you seek in a nice quiet atmosphere, this is the place.

    David2019-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here in mid-June and loved it. It was too cold to swim, and we were glad for the furnace in the morning because it was down in the high 40's at night. The cottage is decorated with lots of antiques and lake/fishing-themed items, so it was very nice to hang out in. There was plenty of seating in the main cottage area and on the screened porch. And the view of the lake was great. We enjoyed watching the birds and dragonflies. The cottage itself was super-clean (no musty smell) and the beds included pillows, comforters, and extra blankets. We had to bring our own sheets and bath towels which was fine. The kitchen was well-equipped. We did not use the TV at all and spent much of our time out at the state park in Presque Isle or visiting a friend who had a cottage on the lake. Our Verizon cells had decent reception here too. Overall, if you are looking for a quiet place to get away from the city, this is an excellent choice.

  • We had the most welcoming hosts and comfortable and beautifully designed accommodations. Anything we wanted or needed, Jim or Melissa was on it! Gorgeous hardwood floors, beautiful chalet style guest house inside and out. Steps leading up to the room ensure you get a nice view of the lake out the front door and a huge window looks out over the canal. It had a super comfy king bed, with great amenities. all Located directly on Ess Lake about 30-40 minutes outside of Alpena. I’m sure we’ll be visiting again!

    Jackie2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had the vacation of our lives at Jim's place. The location is on a beautiful, clean, charming lake nestled amongst pine trees. The apartment is charming and cozy with a kitchen full many types of electric appliances, comfy chairs and couches, a comfortable king size bed, and a very large comfy blow up queen mattress; plus Jim's extra touches like complimentary drinks in the fridge, fudgepops in the freezer, homemade jam on the table, and an awesome selection of movies. We didn't need to worry about anything for our vacation, because Jim set up the grill for is, built bonfires for us would turn on the authentic sauna for us and offered to help with anything else we might need. He helped us plan our itineraries for our day trips. We actually had the most fun and spent almost all our time on the lake. Jim has a pontoon, paddle boat and a canoe, plus very comfortable floaties (water recliners). Jim took us out on the lake in the pontoon, then taught us how to use it and we took it out ourselves. This is the perfect, memorable, comfortable, relaxing, fun, no worries vacation spot!

  • We had a fantastic time at Ess Lake. Jim is an amazing host who made sure we had a great time from the moment we arrived till we left. While the kids enjoyed paddle boating, kayaking and swimming in the lake, we were grilling and enjoying refreshments in a very relaxing environment. They even let us use their pontoon boat at no charge; it really felt like a family visit. Leave your gadgets at home and enjoy a few days of true relaxation at Ess Lake. Thank you Jim and Melissa for everything, we'll see you again.

  • James is an excellent host! He is very knowledgeable about the area and will answer any questions you might have on your trip! Apart from the limited WiFi and phone signal, which might affect working travelers, the place is a great getaway from busy life! I would highly recommend James’ place!
