  • Cozy space with comfortable furniture in a great little community.

    Pyle2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay and cottage was cozy, centrally located (1hr drive to most UP locations allowing for flexible day trips), clean, and had a hot tub which is exactly what we needed after a long hike. Located in a nice, quiet area. Would recommend anyone to stay here.

  • Very nice place to stay

    Casey2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • It was very clean. He made very nice updates to the cabins. It was a quiet and peaceful week.

    Gloria2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Skip the hotel and get a cabin! Initially I looked for a hotel around Marquette and everything was either full or overpriced in my opinion. Why not get a cabin with great amenities at the same price? Perfect for a getaway!

    Anthony2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect little hideaway in the woods. The lake was beautiful and a lovely place to spend sunset. The cabin was very cozy and clean! George was easy to communicate with and responsive! Would love to stay again.

    Kayla2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place! There is about 4 cabins in a row with each other and a 5th one across from them. They are very nice and perfect for a family.

    Tye2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very neat fishing cabin near the lake. Enjoyed fishing and made use of the row boat and pedal boat as well. We also used it as our anchor point to explore neighboring attractions such as Sugarloaf mtn, Presque Isle and Pictured Rocks.

  • Bethany’s place is quaint and homey. Everything necessary for a comfortable stay was provided, including a fully equipped kitchen, plenty of extra blankets and linens, and little homey touches. Do be aware of gps directions getting here! Each time we’d type in the exact address, our gps would switch mid-route, taking us to a nearby airport. Overall, we really loved our stay here and would very much recommend!

    Cindy2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The house is a cozy place and the pictures show exactly what to expect in person. The host was very responsive and accommodating. Had a great stay. Would definitely stay here the next time we travel Up North !

  • Bethany was a gracious and very responsive hostess. Her place is very clean and comfortable. We had 4 adults and 2 small children, and felt we had plenty of room to move around. The bedrooms are roomy andnicely appointed and having the 2nd half bath was great. We were very comfortable and felt this was a great value.

  • Hello to all, I spent a week in the U.P with my son with Bethany as our host. I give her 100% all the way around, she was very respectful, courteous and there for whatever you may need. The apartment was very nice and clean and she has anything you could ask for there for your convenience throughout your stay. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to meet her and have her as a host!!! If your going to the U.P and staying anywhere near Marquette or surrounding area's I highly recommend staying there. Thanks for everything Bethany and I look forward to our next stay!!!!

  • Theresa was incredibly welcoming! The house and rooms were very clean and neat! You receive everything you could expect from a stay at a hotel (bedding, towels, your own bathroom and living space, etc) I came up for a last minute snowmobile trip and really couldn’t have asked for more. The ad states to contact Theresa before depature and please make sure you do!! The gps will tell you to stop short of where the house actually is. So if you don’t contact her and wait, cell service is very spotty up there and you can get turned around Easily! Save yourself the hassle and give her a shout. She sent me pics of the house and driveway which made it very easy to locate. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and will be back for more trips!! Thank you for everything!!

  • A peaceful, private getaway where you can relax and enjoy the beauty of the UP with all the comforts of home. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

    Linda2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Theresa is awesome extremely fast and great communication and a beautiful view.

    Roger2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Theresa is a great host, she provide a lot help and their backyard is so beautiful with colorful foliage. Nice memories!

  • Great experience and a wonderful hostess.

    Golman2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • If you prefer not to drive too far after landing Marquette Airport, this is a perfect stop over place to rest and fresh up. The surrounding environment is very woody and pretty, a quiet resort with everything close by. I am very happy to find this place first to rejuvenate before my solo driving to Copper Harbor and Porky Mountain, good decision and smart choice.

    Beifei2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • We planned a last minute UP waterfall tour and there were no options closer to Marquette (big bike race, NMU homecoming). Therese's place was not too far away and was a good distance between waterfalls. When we arrived, Therese welcomed us warmly, introduced us to the property and went upstairs. We didn't see her again until morning (private). Nice decks on the lake provided perfect spot to view stars/northern night sky. I imagine it would be perfect place to view Northern Lights. We saw several shooting stars. This was a nice place to stay on our UP waterfall adventure.

    Laura2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • It's a beautiful home, well-stocked for your convenience, and very clean. Theresa is an outstanding host and is very thoughtful of your privacy. Even though she and Lawrence share the kitchen with guests, they aren't there much and we saw very little of them. We cooked several dinners there, and enjoyed being able to use the entire lower level of the house as our own. The decks are large, and face a beautiful view of the lake, and stargazing at night there is spectacular. There's a lot of area to park, too. We enjoyed being there so much, and look forward to reserving with Theresa again.

Great place on one of the nicest lakes in the area. Full recreational lake with public access nearby. 3 Bedrooms, 2 baths, full amenities, lakeside deck, fireplace and sauna. 20 min from Marquette. All needs, food etc are close by.
  • Nice place. Great if you’re looking for an adventure: discovering the house and surrounding areas. It’s a nice place in winter too: very warm and good snow removal service. The place is nicer and much bigger than on the pictures. Only downside was that the fireplace and dishwasher were out of service when we visited. There is also no sauna in the main house (but possibly in the shed - we did not need it and therefore did not ask).

    Hendrik2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time in house of James. House has many rooms. House had everything which we needed. Location Is also great. House is directly next to a lake

    Ahmet Emre2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • A very well maintained house which is full of amenities to have a great time with your family and group. The location is great and James is a perfect host and responded very promptly to all the queries.

  • Stayed with a family of four to go to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore which was about an hour away. The lake in the backyard is beautiful in the morning and the whole experience was very peaceful. Brought a Firestick as well and watched movies at night with the family on the nice large television in the living room after a long day of hiking.

  • Super nice place, also in the winter, better then expected and a generous helpful host as well. Thanks for the experince!

    Julius2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little cottage with stunning scenery. We stayed there for 4 nights and it had everything we needed. I was a huge fan of the stamped tile-wood flooring for wet winter boots and big wet dog paws. The cottage had enough room in it for a 120lbs Saint Bernard which is a plus too me! Even though we are courteous dog owners, it’s nice not having a rule book for what your dog can and can’t do. All of the property and cottages and absolutely beautiful in winter! I just loved driving up to the cabins on a one way drive.

    Amanda2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Was a great get away on the lake. Just have to be okay with neighbors next to your cabin.

    Alex2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • I’ve tried quite a few, and this is the best AirBnB I’ve ever stayed at. Everything about it is fantastic. The cabin itself was clean, cozy, and had everything we could want. The location is gorgeous, quiet, and secluded, while still being a short drive from town.

    Stewart2019-12-13T00:00:00Z

  • Cozy cottage right on the waterfront. Amazing beds and very clean throughout the cottage. Katie kept in touch to make sure everything was going well.

    Jennifer2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed in quite a few Airbnb's. I have to say that by far, Katie's place was the best we have stayed in and Katie was the most amazing host we have rented from. If you need a great place to rent, do not hesitate, you won't be disappointed.

    Randy2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay here was fantastic! The cabin itself was very clean and comfortable. Katie put a lot of thought into accommodating her guests and making them feel welcomed and special. Some very thoughtful and personalized touches put our check in over the top! The cabin was beautifully staged and comfortable. We had plenty of luxury towels and the beds and bedding was so comfortable and cozy. They definitely went the extra mile to provide luxurious bedding and linens. Seriously, the most comfortable beds ever!!! The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to prepare our meals. Our family had a wonderful time and great success ice fishing right in front of the cabin. That was a priceless memory for our children! We had such a great time we ended up extending our stay here. Thank you so much to Katie for her hospitality! We will definitely be back =)

  • The Cedar Cottage is a wonderful place to visit! Perfect place for snow shoeing, reading by the fire, and enjoying the snowy view. The lake is beautiful, the cottage is cozy and well decorated with thoughtful amenities throughout. Katie is a fantastic host and very responsive! I hope to make it back to visit sometime in the summer and highly recommend the Cedar Cottage anytime of year!

  • We had a great stay! Perfect location, right on the lake. It was a little difficult to find the turn off road because the snow partially covered the sign, but road was plowed regularly and it was easy to get around. We’ll be back in the summer!

    Sarah2020-01-20T00:00:00Z

  • Great little cabin off the beaten path. They did a nice job renovating and you can tell they keep improving. The boats were a fun touch. We had 4 adults and two babies. It was cozy but completely doable. The dogs loved all the neighbor dogs which was fun for them. The hosts were quick to answer all of our questions. We brought up our side by sides and were not disappointed. The trails were great and there was plenty of room to park.

  • Very clean place, perfect place to stay as we were in the Marquette area for a mountain bike race. The setup is wonderful, we loved being able to use the big projector to watch TV. The kitchen had everything we needed to do all of our cooking. My 9 year old son spent time in the basement playing air hockey.

LITTLE LAKE COTTAGE SLEEPS: 8 BEDROOMS: 4 BATHROOMS: 2 LAKEFRONT (Little Lake) *KAYAK and ROWBOAT INCLUDED *PRIVATE BOAT DOCK *PETS ARE WELCOMED *SWIMMING ON PROPERTY This charming cottage was built by a wonderful family to create place for retreat, and bring about a sense of peace to all who visit. It hasn't changed much over the years, yet it is still a nice place for a family to enjoy their time together. No cable TV, no local channels, yet we do have WiFi and a DVD player. Enjoy the quiet surroundings as you are surrounded by woods, while perched next to the Little Lake waters. Trees surround 3 sides of the cottage, creating a very private buffer from the other cottages around the lake. Simplicity is key here. Enjoy the 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with many of the comforts from home. The dishwasher and washer/dryer are wonderful, often unexpected treats in a cottage. Although rarely needed in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, we do not currently have air conditioning at the Little Lake Cottage, though we do have baseboard heat for those chilly spring and fall evenings. Generally, leaving the windows open to the cool lake breeze provides the comfort guests need, with the help of fans moving around air on the few days where the heat is uncomfortable. Enjoy the inside fireplace on chilly evenings, and the outside fire pit on fun summer nights. We've had many talk about the fun they had swimming and the great fishing, from Perch to Walleye. Expect to create many fun, family memories here at the cottage, while you take time to recharge. We hope you depart with a sense of a renewed spirit. • We booked the lake house for the week after Labor Day and it was just what we were looking for. Gwinn is a really neat little town which was a nice surprise. The house has plenty of privacy and feels really secluded. It was a bit too cold for us to get out onto the water but the canoe was super tempting! Freshwater's hosting was perfect. Super clear and easy instructions for check-in and out. We'd definitely stay here again.

  • Great place to stay in Gwinn. Close to town and only 20 minutes from Marquette. Kids loved swimming at the beach.

  • This is a nice little place that’s perfect for a weekend away! It’s conveniently on Little Lake, where they have options for boating and swimming. For being out of town and really quiet, it’s still relatively close to Gwinn and Marquette if you want anything or want to do something more exciting than relaxing by the fire. Great place!

    Jessica2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was the perfect Labor Day weekend get away for the family. The house itself is beautiful, cozy, and well stocked. The land and the lake are incredible! We were constantly boating or having a bonfire and the one evening it rained we had a cozy movie night in the living room. The town of Gwinn was lovely and had everything we needed. Marquette was very close and made for a great day trip. Can’t wait to return next summer!

  • We had an amazing stay for the short time we were there. This is definitely a spot that we would recommend to friends, family, or anyone looking to relax on a quiet lake. The home is absolutely beautiful. The lake is private and we even were able to see two bald eagles. We hope to get back up to this spot again next year and stay for a bit longer. Nancy was very helpful and quick with any response to questions.

This cozy 2BR, hand crafted log cabin was built in the 1920's! This is a wonderful opportunity to experience lake living on one of the U.P's premier inland lakes. Build lasting memories with your family Swimming, Fishing, and General Outdoor Fun!
This is Lake Living! Life Jackets are on premise, children's sizes up through XL Adult. We also have a little aluminum row boat that you should feel free to use. (Great for some early morning fishing!). The Dock on the property is in good working order, so boat owners are welcome. Boat launch access is free and on the east side of Big Shag Lake. The Cabin is a true old fashioned log Cabin. These logs were cut locally, skidded across the lake, and hand built right here on this location. We have provided some history on the cabin in the Cabin "Journal". The history to this place is pretty cool. Also, We encourage you to put in your own entries into the Journal - we'd love to hear about your time spent here! Full Kitchen - we have provided a full set of Table Settings for six people. Pots, pans, crockpot, coffee maker, knives, Microwave, full size fridge, full stove, etc... We also provide fresh bottled water for your stay. The entry to the Cabin is a key code lock. Once you have the key code, you will have 24 hour access to the cabin. Upon arrival, you will find a check list to let you know the maintenance and cleaning that has been provided for your stay. Please let us know if anything was missed. Also, If you require house cleaning during your stay, please let us know and we can make arrangements with our cleaning person (fees will apply). Lastly, There are two skylights that help to provide great natural light during the day.
This neighborhood setting is very friendly. Feel free to wave hello to the people passing by on their boats. Don't be surprised if you find yourself in conversation with complete strangers. There is a local Restaurant/Pub - The Up North Lodge. Great food, and drink. It's a five minute ride from the cabin. There is a local corner store, the Tall Timber, that is also a five minute drive from the cabin. If you ever find yourself short of S'more supplies, this is your go to spot!
  • We had a great time at the cabin on Shag Lake. It was great to have access to the row boat, a fully stocked kitchen and the wonderful fire pit. You can relax at the cabin or head off to explore the Upper Peninsula. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore was beautiful and fun to explore by kayak. Munising has some great waterfalls and a cute town to explore. Truly a great place to make some amazing family memories!

    Debbie2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is perfect if you're looking for great swimming, fishing and evening fires. The owner is very responsive and the location is perfect. Our five year old had a blast and so did we...highly recommended!!!

    Shannon2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is very cozy and spotless clean. You will find all the necessary basic things that you need to spend a good time in the cabin like you were home. There is no T.V. or WIFI but you get reception on your cell phone. However, we didn't miss the TV or WIFI much as we were so busy jumping in the warm waters of the Shag lake just in the backyard. We enjoyed talking about things in life around the fire pit next to the lake and contemplating the beautiful view of the full moon's reflection on the waters of the lake. The beds were very comfortable that nobody from my family missed their beds. I really liked that they are pet friendly and the whole family was able to come to this short vacation. We felt complete as we didn't have to worry about how our furry babies would be doing at the boarding. They also enjoyed getting in the lake and laying down on the grass around the fire pit while their family were outdoors. The space of the cabin is perfect for 6 people. I highly recommend it. I rented the cabin because I was running the Marquette Ultra-marathon. If you thinking next year to come to Marquette, the cabin is about 30 minutes to the Walmart at Marquette. Just to give you an idea of the distant to Marquette, but it is worth it. We definitely rent it again .

    Cristina2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Brent's cabin when my usual cabin though my friend's family fell through. We've been coming to Shag Lake for a yearly friend's retreat for some 10 years or so. We absolutely LOVED the charm and the feel of the place, and the location couldn't be better. If you're fancy city-folk looking for some kind of all-amenity 'glamping' situation - move on down the road. This place is homey, comfortable and has everything you need without frills which, for my money, is EXACTLY what I want when I'm staying at a cabin on the lake. We floated and read, cooked great meals, had fires on the lake, saw an honest-to-God shooting star and even heard some bagpipes echoing across the water one evening. The space is all you need when all you want is some serious quality time with your crew - and is an excellent value to boot! If we can't get my friends' cabin again next year, this place will absolutely be first on my list.

The cottage is within easy walking distance of the sandy beach and fire pit. There is a coin-operated laundry house on site where paddles oars and life jackets are stored for use on a variety of watercraft, which are available for our guests to use. Beach toys are also stored in the laundry house. There are nearby trails for walking, snowmobiling, and off-roading. The Welcome Center in Marquette is by far the best source for friendly advice on things to see and do in the area.
The word most heard about the area is "peaceful". When "peaceful" is added to clean water and fresh air while you have time to think, relax and enjoy the friendly greetings of the local people who call the UP home.
One mile away is a convenience store, gas, auto mechanic, a restaurant and bar. Four miles away is downtown Gwinn where you will find a wide variety of shopping including a library, banking, restaurants, public playground, and park.
  • Worked great for what we needed for a snowmobile weekend!

    Nathaniel2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here with 4 guys on a long weekend snowmobile trip. Since we spend most of our time out riding, we look for clean, comfortable cabins that are functional. This cabin was perfect for a guy’s trip. It was old and basic, but clean and well equipped for us to cook breakfast and dinners. There is plenty of room at the kitchen table and in the living room. The cabin is close to M-35 for easy access during winter driving conditions. Truck/trailer parking was adequate. Snowmobile access is very good with a private power line trail from the cabin to Trail 8 one mile away. And there is a gas station 1.1 miles away. The host, John, was very hospitable and easy to work with. We plan to come back to enjoy central UP riding. Great place for snowmobilers!

  • Nice comfortable accommodations on a small but beautiful lake. The owners live on the property and are very friendly & attentive to the needs of renters. We made a mini vacation out of dropping our son off at NMU in Marquette which is only 30 minutes north. It was cheaper than the motels in Marquette and we were able to bbq and cook some of our own meals.

  • We were very happy with our stay at this wonderful lake cabin! It has the feel of a rustic cabin with many updates and anenities. The house was very clean and well taken care of. We spent the majority of our time on the dock, in the fishing boat, enjoying nightly fires and eating our grilled meals on the deck. Our dog loved relaxing with us too.

  • Everything was great. We used the sauna, then jumped in the lake, grilled with your gas grill on the deck. The grandkids visited one night and they could watch their favorite programs on TV. The washer and dryer worked fine, after jumping in the lake we washed the towels. The lake, Bass Lake, is one of more sought after lakes in the area. It is spring fed, sandy bottom and good fishing. The house was very clean and stocked with the basics.

  • We had a car issue and were not able to arrive to the place itself. But George was very supportive and helped us with the towing and car repairing ringing local friends. Thank you so much. We will be back for sure to enjoy his beautiful cabin.
