Places to stay in Ford

Places to stay in Ford
Our delightful cosy Cottage sleeps two, four if you want to use the sofa bed. Situated in amongst some of Argyll's most dramatic scenery. It's a perfect base for walks' sailing, horse riding, bird watching or just sitting by the wood burning stove.
Historically West Barravullin was a very important place, as Crofters would bring their grain to be milled here - Translated - Barravullin means -Mill on the Hill. It is a tranquil, secluded property, a perfect place to relax and getaway from the rigours of everyday life. The Cottage has a double bed and if needed a double sofa bed - so can accommodate four. There is also outdoor seating with wonderful views of the Mountains on the Isle of Mull.
What I love about this area is the History and the breathtakingly magical scenery. Ardfern has a marina where the guests can take a boat trip out to see the Corryvreckan Whirlpool - the second largest in Europe, or visit the Inner Hebridean Islands - Jura for instance where George Orwell wrote his futuristic novel - 1984.
  • We're just home from 2 night in Joanne's cottage and can't recommend it highly enough. We stayed indoors for a full day as there were hailstorms and gales outside - we were quite happy to be tucked inside next to the woodburner. The cottage is cosy, clean, full of DVDs and books and Joanne had left us all the basics (milk, eggs, bread, fruit) we needed. We'll be back!

  • Beautiful "bothy", the wood fire gave the place a lovely homely feel and scent. Host was very friendly and accommodating. Host provided breakfast stuff including eggs from her free range birds, but we'd already bought our own breakfast stuff so didn't use any. Helpful walk route suggestions for our walks with digs, as well as a neighbouring field for quick dog toileting. Beautiful house, we found ourselves wishing we had more time just to spend in it, rather than out and about.

  • Couldn't have asked for a better stay. Just the kind of secluded feel we were looking for. Nice cozy place with a great view and outstanding hospitality. Fire waiting for us when we got in and a few surprise supplies waiting in the fridge and on the shelf. I think we may be coming back very soon!

  • Superb location, the friendliest host and really cosy with the log fire on! We loved it and the dog did too!

  • Beautiful cottage in a great location. We had a lovely stay. Would highly recommend walking the peninsula past Ardfern.

  • Excellent stay at Joanne’s lovely bothy! Lovely cosy fire and lots of homely touches. Thanks for having us!

  • Super cute and the location is amazing!

  • What a super find - this is a perfect bolt hole - really private and felt so in the country - but yet many things to see and do nearby.

Maida's cottage is situated on the edge of the village of Ford, close to Loch Ederline. There is a private driveway to the cottage with a farm gate to keep the sheep on the hill. There is ample parking and a gated/fenced private garden. Although on the edge of the village, Maida's cottage feels remote with a rather stunning backdrop. There are many hills to walk. There is no TV or WiFi, this is a cosy getaway from hectic lives so sit back and enjoy the log fire with a good book.
Within Maida's cottage you will find an entrance porch, somewhere to place your walking boots and coats. Kitchen with fridge, oven and microwave. The sitting room has a log burner, logs will be provided for your stay. There is a double bed in the bedroom with a chest of drawers for your clothes. There is a shower, sink and loo with soap provided.
  • An amazing area to explore the landscapes and monuments of our ancestors and the cottage is ideally located for that. It's very clean with plenty of firewood, a comfy bed and a fabulous shower! Not to mention plenty of windows to view the weather on the surrounding hills and the stream rushing by outside. The digital detox was very relaxing; everything you need for a proper getaway feeling. Thank you 😊

  • This house is absolutely amazing, the pictures do not do justice to the high quality throughout the entire house. The jet bath was amazing after a day adventuring and with the super high pressure shower as well we were spoilt for choice, and then the really soft beds to sink into afterwards made it such a lovely stay. It was warm and cosy without the stove and nice to be able to have a fire when we wanted it too. The location was great with lots of things to explore and beautiful scenery to enjoy. Would highly recommend this place and will be staying again!

    Bethany2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • The shepherds cottage is an excellent place for a family or group of friends to stay. It’s very clean, warm and has a well equipped kitchen. Louise gave us loads of local tips, was very helpful and responded quickly.

  • Beautifully renovated spacious cottage in a fantastic area - lovely cycle routes and excellent nature reserves nearby.

    Anna2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really lovely newly converted property done to a very high specification. We were really impressed with the cottage. Clearly a great deal of thought & attention has gone into making this a comfortable & stylish place to stay in a lovely part of Scotland! We loved it!

    Andrew2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Brand new and very well done cottage renovation. Hosts were great with first days supplies provided. There is a large burn across the small quiet road for sound effects and the views are great out to Loch Awe and the mountains. The road out front is single lane, tarred and very quiet making this a great spot for walkers and cyclists. Very peaceful spot. Oban and the ferries to Mull, Iona and the wildlife islands are about 1hour away. Crinan Canal is just 30 minutes.

  • The School Room is a fantastic bolthole - cosy, stylish and luxurious. The surrounding area is beautiful - the estate vast and wild, and the coastline spectacular. Nearby Crinan Harbour is a charming place for a walk, followed by a drink and fantastic seafood at the Crinan Hotel. And a boat trip on the Venture West to the Corryvrechan whirlpool is not to be missed. Closer to home, a trip to the Boat House deep inside the estate is also not to be missed, for peace, quiet and rugged scenery. And the chance of spotting a Golden Eagle! Many thanks to Willa and Angus for a great stay, and their warmth and kindness as hosts.

  • We had a wonderful stay in Willa’s beautiful school room and can’t wait to return. The School Room in a very beautiful and unique part of the world. The are is rich in history and gorgeous scenery. The accommodation is spacious and so comfortable- the photos don’t donut justice! I loved relaxing on the couch with views of the oak trees and fields, even a rather aloof white cow! Willa thoughtful left us delicious homemade flapjacks which we adored. Thanks for a truly relaxing stay Willa, we will be back!

    Freyja2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Argyll is a great area to explore. Along all those narrow roads. Beautiful scenery, rich history with castles etc. Search and you will find. The School Room is perfect as a base. We really liked the place; the "room" is done with a gentle touch. It was as described, and that is very good. It was quiet there - as we hoped for. We would like to come back.

Staying in the Cheese loft was great, nice size for me, lovely and warm on a cold and very wet week. The facilities were excellent, everything you need in the kitchen was there. The bed was really comfortable, huge soft towels and very peaceful and quiet.

  • Great place for groups. There is plenty of space and the house is very cosy. It's a good base for small day trips to the coast or the mountains.

  • Windrush is a wonderful place to stay. There is plenty of space to spend time together or spread out. Large pleasant kitchen and open plan living space running in to a sun room with wonderful views, all heated by a welcoming wood burning stove. Most of all it feels like home as soon as you arrive. Small touches make it much more than a holiday house and Rosie and Mike are quick to help and answer questions. Folded towels and careful thought of everything you might need make you feel well cared for and at home. We hope to return to enjoy the deck and large garden when the weather is better and do more walking in an area perfect for outdoor pursuits.

  • Lovely, spacious home with a fireplace and well equipped kitchen. Garden is large and great if you have a dog. The location is great for walks and some peace and quiet.

    Maryam2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful tranquil location. Definitely need to stock up with provisions before arrival and no source of even basics nearby. Total peace and amazing views from a delightful house.. Lots of space and great storage. Amazing views.

    Nicola2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • We have just had another amazing stay at Windrush, this time with friends. The house is incredible, with more than enough space for two families. It has absolutely everything you need for a very comfortable holiday and everything is finished off to a very high standard. The woodburner is lovely on an evening and the whole house is just very inviting and cosy... We basically want to live there! Ford is a very peaceful spot to get away from it all. The area is wonderful, with so much to do and see. We've been exploring the area for years but always find something new. We only had three nights there this time but could happily spend a week or two. We will definitely be back again and again to Windrush!

    Lucie2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Well supported check in and local contact if necessary. What lovely accommodation in a beautiful setting. We loved the self-catering and relaxed family approach. Great log burner and cosy feel.

    Michaela2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is in a stunning location with fabulous views over the Loch. I’d recommend a visit to Afdfern and the Galley of Lorne Inn, it’s a fairly easy 1.5 mile walk from the cottage. The mobile reception at the cottage and in the surrounding area is very hit and miss so it’s well worth doing some research before arriving. The cottage was comfortable and as described.

    Anne2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t rate this place highly enough. A beautiful estate with the shore just a 10 min walk away from the cottage, horses grazing in the fields, and quite possibly the quietest place on earth. So tranquil. The gardens around the main house are beautifully kept. The cottage is really clean, has everything you need, and the pub is a 20 min walk along the road. We brought our 2-year-old and our dog - we all loved it and will be back soon.

The Cabin is a nature-lover's paradise, a peaceful, romantic retreat full of character and charm. It is a 1930s wood-panelled cabin set in an orchard, part of the beautiful mature garden of our home. It consists of a bedroom, bathroom and old-fashioned kitchen with wood stove. We are situated at the heart of Kilmartin Glen, a 5-minute walk from ancient standing stones and chambered cairns and a short cycle from Moine Mhor nature reserve, Crinan Ferry beach and the award-winning Kilmartin Museum.
The Cabin is a 1930's wooden garden house. The rooms are wood panelled and the curved ceiling is reminiscent of an old railway carriage. With windows on three sides it is very light. When the weather is fair, sunshine pours into the bedroom from morning to evening. We have kept the original features and added vintage and retro furnishings. There are two comfortable single beds with electric blankets (we can put these together on request), a bathroom with bath and toilet and a kitchen with kettle, toaster, small fridge and old Belling cooker (electric). The Belling is fairly limited but will cook eggs or pasta, heat milk or grill bacon with success. You may wish to bring your own breakfast or if you prefer, we can provide a DIY breakfast, including freshly laid eggs. A Scandinavian wood stove heats the cabin (wood provided) but there are also electric radiators and blankets to keep you snug. The Cabin is a peaceful haven where you can read a book, play games or listen to the radio (or the birdsong!) in the absence of wifi.
The Cabin is situated in Kilmartin Glen just a stone's throw from Temple Wood Stone Circle and is on a cycling and walking route that gives access to an array of historic sites: chambered cairns, standing stones, rock art, Dunadd fort, Moine Mhor nature reserve, Carnasserie Castle and the award-winning Kilmartin museum. Crinan is a short drive away with its famous canal, harbour and wonderful woodland walk with stunning views to the west over Jura and Mull. Loch Awe, Loch Sween and the pretty west coast villages of Tayvallich and Ardfern are a 20-minute drive away, offering walks, boat trips, cafes, arts venues and sports facilities. Lochgilphead (9 miles away) is the main hub for shopping, banking, petrol etc. There is a friendly pub in Kilmartin village a mile and a half away. The walk there is lovely, even after dark.
  • This is my second 4-day stay at Chris and Helen’s cabin in the Kilmartin Valley. It is a special and unique place. It is small and it is a cabin, but if you love the rustic feel, being away from just about everything, hearing nothing but birds and rain on the roof, and a warm fire in the kitchen, then this is the place for you. This visit allowed for an exploration of wee Lochgilphead which is a lovely little town, with some sweet places, especially Smiddy’s for lunch, and the Archway for a rather fine little art gallery. The valley has a special feel to it, and the cabin is the icing on the cake! I already miss being there and can’t wait to return.

  • The cabin is peaceful and cozy. We especially enjoyed the wood stove and being 'off grid' for a few days :)

    Laura2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the cabin far exceeded our expectations. We really enjoyed spending a lot of our time in the kitchen which has a great little oven, lovely Belfast sink and all the utensils you could possibly need. Was really great to have a wood burner which didn't take long to make the place feel really cosy, wood was provided for along with some eggs, milk, butter, jams, coffee, various cereals etc. All in all, couldn't have asked for a more welcoming and peaceful weekend away from the city. There is also a folder full of plenty of useful information for things to do on a dry/wet day including walks and local sights - not to mention the outdoor heated bathtub! Looking forward to returning very soon, I wish we lived here.

    Thomas2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Part of us doesn't want to leave a good review so that this place won't be overrun by people but will always be available for us... Just kidding. We absolutely loved the cabin. It is in such a peaceful, calm environment and the cabin itself is so cozy, that even a rainy day doesn't bother you much. Chris helped us with the outdoor bathtub, which was a truly exciting experience.

    Lena2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • A stay too short in an atypical housing full of charm. The place is very quiet, perfectly located to discover this beautiful region. Very friendly welcome. An address that we retain.

90 miles west of Glasgow, this peninsular has spectacular views over the Inner Hebrides. Adjacent to a Marina and Riding Stables our 5 cosy cabins with log fires have charm and simple comforts. Well equipped kitchens or famous restaurants nearby.
Crowhill Cabin is situated up the hill meaning it has breathtaking views out towards the Corryvreckan, the isles and looks down onto Lunga House. The cabin has an outdoor decking area and a garden with table and chairs meaning you can make the most of the stunning views.
  • Our stay at Crowhill was magical. First of all, we had discussions a few months before with Colin and he was very available to us and very responsive. We had seen great reviews on the cabin and we can confirm them 100%. The hut is nestled in the heights of Craobh Haven, in a secluded and beautiful location, the hut has all the necessary comfort, soft sofas, a wood stove, a dining area with an idyllic view, the bedding is perfect with little extra heating mattresses

  • Fantastic view, cozy little cottage, great surroundings! All as advertised. Would definitely stay there again. Summer months must be amazing!

    David2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Colin is a great host, you can expect a friendly warm welcome, a comfort bed with all accommodations you’d have in a hotel, plus the most beautiful scenery you could image as you have your coffee or sit out on the balcony! Absolutely stunning!

  • Lovely cabin, amazing location and views. Perfect for a quiet break. Basic but cosy and with everything you need for cooking and relaxing. Nice walks from the front door and pub down the road. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Crowhill cabin was a beautiful lodge on the side of a hill overlooking the sea and hebrides beyond. We came in January and the weather was extremely windy, rainy and cold, however once the fire got going it was really cosy inside.. until the fire got going we had use of some electric heaters which gave us enough warmth. It's definitely a good idea to bring slippers and warm pjs as they're was quite a chill in the other rooms however we don't mind the authentic experience and we really enjoyed sitting beside the fireplace. The kitchen was well equipped with basic utensils Crockery and pans - everything to make your own meals, which we loved. The bed was very firm and comfortable with electric blankets !! The whole lodge is very basic and has the feel of a granny pad , which we actually loved and felt really homely. There is a channel on tv where you can watch movie after movie, and the internet is hassle free and surprisingly fast. We loved visiting the near by botanical gardens and eating seafood at restaurants in Oban. I would love to come again in the summer time and go on more walks. It all felt like a truly Scottish experience , the lunga estate which the lodge resides is beautiful. I loved opening the curtains to the epic view in the morning with a coffee in hand. Wish I could have stayed longer!!

  • What an absolute gem of a place - we had the most fabulous Christmas at the Crowhill cabin. Completely private, with views to die for and very comfortable beds, which were kept warm by electric blankets when we arrived. The pictures don’t do this cabin justice. Very well equipped kitchen and all the utensils for cleaning up when needed, including a hoover and a washing machine. Very quiet - the perfect place to relax and unwind. The fire requires a bit of attention to keep it going so if you like chopping wood, you’ll be in your element! The electric heaters however provide more than sufficient amount of heat to keep the entire place nice and warm. The shower takes a while to come on but we found that turning the hot tap on for a little while gives it a jump start. Colin was a great host and available when we needed electricity top up cards / fire lighters or advice on where to walk the dogs. Hope to come back one day!

  • We stayed at Gillians for a quiet and cosy getaway this new year. The cottage was lovely and clean and in a beautiful location. Gillian was a great quick to respond to messages and she left us some lovely fresh eggs for our stay too.

  • This is a great place for exploring the wonderful area, really easy space and everything works well, it has everything one would need. Recommended!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mrs Rowans Cottage with our 3 year old daughter and our dog. The estate is beautiful, the animals (rams, chickens, ducks, cows!) are fun and friendly, and the hosts were very welcoming and accommodating. The cottage was well appointed and comfortable, if a bit outdated. We had eggs from the estate’s chickens, sold in an adorable egg stall alongside delicious jellies. We cooked our meals, made coffee and tea, enjoyed a few cozy fires, and slept well in the peace and quiet. We enjoyed visiting a nearby ruined castle, walking the estate grounds, seeing many lochs in the region, and viewing the stars at night.

  • We had a lovely stay at Gillians farm. Location is spectacular and the cottage had everything we needed for our stay. The land around is wonderful to explore with views over the lochs. The farm itself is very isolated-perfect for peace and quiet.

  • A wonderful location. Lots to see if you like ruins, stone circles, woodlands and animals. Gillian is a very welcoming host and her Estate is lovely. A beautiful drive.

  • Stayed in this exceptionally well equipped cottage with my partner and my two dogs. Absolutely loved it. Such a beautiful part of scotland. Enjoyed some fishing on Ederline Loch directly opposite the farm.

  • Gilians Cottage was a very nice start to our Scotland trip. The cottage is not modern or chic, but has a lot of charm and cosiness and the view all around cow, ducks, chickens, dogs and horses especially our daughter very much.

  • A wonderful location and 15 minute walk to the nearest pub - which serves lovely food and you can be assured of a warm welcome. Note there is no WiFi at the cottage and phone coverage is poor - but it's a great escape and the walking is fantastic. A beautiful part of the world and a lovely cottage plenty big enough for 4 people.

    Julie2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • The place is beautiful with walks in the area and paths that lead to the ocean and beautiful coves. The cottage is very pretty and very comfortable. We would have stayed there longer.

  • Coachman's Cottage is located in an amazing estate. The scenery is stunning and there are so many things you can do. Take a swim in onre of the nearby lakes, visit Ardfern - a small but beautiful village with welcoming people. If you're lucky enough, you'll get to shop at the local garage sale where you'll pay next to nothing for beautiful pieces. The local shop has all sorts of homemade goodies, very healthy and tasteful. Coachman's Cottage is well appointed and sparkling clean, having a touch of history while very modern in terms of facilities. No WiFi, but being on holidays you do want to fully disconnect. There are stables on the estate so you can book a horse riding tour of the place. The pub nearby - Lord of the Isles - has a terrific menu, but do make a reservation if you don't want to wait over an hour to be served. All in all, 5 star experience.

No noise or light pollution so you can enjoy the million stars above your head or the sauna and jacuzzi in the house. Camus Arsa is a unique dwelling on a country estate in Argyll, the scenic west coast of Scotland. With stunning views, a horse riding stables within 1 minutes walk, the local pub which often hosts live music a 10 minute walk away, and miles of countryside to explore. Located on Lunga Estate on the scenic west coast of Scotland, this caravan/portacabin hybrid has been renovated to bring you a clean and fresh open plan modern cabin. Winter is coming! So now can enjoy the cosyness of the Rayburn which I will light for your before your arrival; spend some cosy nights in with the heat of a real fire you just can't beat. It also heats the radiators in the bedroom and livin room. I will provide you with a bunch of fuel to keep you going and give you a good start, afer that we'll have to strike some arrangement depending on what fuel I have available at the time and the length of your stay. I try to be eco-friendly as possible and provide you with local chopped wood chopped by my good self, also suplimented with some compressed woodchip 'heat logs'. Coal is also available in the local area. I will try my best to make sure you are as cosy as you could want. The bedroom contains a double bed and en-suite shower/toilet/washroom, and there is an extra toilet/laundry room off the entrance hall. The livingroom contains a comfy sofa bed which makes a cosy double (or luxurious single), and the Snug area beyond the kitchen contains a small futon foldout mattress. The Snug can be partitioned off from the kitchen with curtains. C.A. is a quiet place, if you're just looking to relax. With good mobile signal and no broadband it's the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle and constant demands of modern life. Wifi is available at the local pub should you find yourself really in need! In the cabin you will find a selection of books, games and puzzles and other such things for nights in, I do like to give the place that 'lived in' feel and hope that you will want for nothing more. Great views out over the islands for most of the year, clean, fresh and spacious with as many modern conveniences as I can muster. I have also got some special deals for local activities: All my guests get 10% discount at the local horse riding stables and I'm working hard to get you more special deals. Watch this space. Please feel free to contact me about larger groups. It depends how cosy you want to get and are prepared to be but I'm more than happy to talk. I have a printed 'House Manual' which will help you find everything. It includes instructions on how to light the Rayburn, in case you're not familiar with stove lighting, and also comes in a variety of languages for your convenience.
Lunga Estate is located about 17 miles from Lochgilphead and 22 miles from the town of Oban. On the coast and looking out over the islands of Mull and Jura, with a local horse riding stables just down the road it's an ideal place to simply relax or a base from which to go sight seeing. Lunga Riding Stables offer riding lessons and rides about the estate for all skill levels. The local pub, The Lord Of The Isles, is approximately a 10 minute walk away and a great place to go for lunch or dinner. It often hosts live music in the evenings. Next to the pub is the local marina where you can take wildlife and island tour boat trips, or go and check out the Gulf of Corryvreckan, the third largest whirlpool in the world. Further afield you can visit Kilmartin Museum for a slice of local ancient history, standing stones, 'The Valley of Ghosts', and Dunadd where the ancient kings of Scotland were crowned. This is also a great jump-off point for journeys to the Western Isles or further afield to Glen Coe, Ben Nevis and the Isle of Skye. In Oban you can catch ferries out to the islands, do the grand distillery tour if you like a tipple, or perhaps just head up the hill to McCaig's Tower, admire the views and wonder what it would have looked like if it had ever been completed.
  • Great stay with everything you need. There is also a lovely view from the kitchen.

    Claire2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible location! And the place was much bigger than I expected and very well equipped. Wouldn’t hesitate to return - highly, highly recommended!

  • I was a bit trepidatious embarking on a short break with my two kids and dog in tow but everything was made easy at CA! There was so much to keep the kids entertained and we were all cosy with the Rayburn and heater set up. The location is fabulous. Luke was such a helpful host, he was there within minutes when we had a small issue and has even come to the rescue when we left a beloved soft toy!

    Emily2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Thankyou for a fab stay. Lovely and clean. Cosy and lots of light in the rooms. Perfect for some chill out time :)

    Liz2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic spot with amazing views. Cabin was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. Sofa bed for the kids was all set up when we arrived and there were lovely flowers in the kitchen. We'll definately be back.

    Helen2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Luke has been extremely thoughtful in leaving little messages around the cabin to help us in the use of his equipment. lighting the Rayburn would have been a nonstarter without his comprehensive instructions. the Rayburn was a critical aspect of our stay as the central heating works only if the wood burner is providing heat. Luke provides maps and tourist info, games for wet weather, even pasta and sauces and spare leads for recharging devices. Take care reversing car up to the cabin, bumpy and steep!

    Duncan2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location. Everything you need for a countryside retreat. Thanks Luke!

    James2019-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cabin with a beautiful view. Very peaceful area, not far to the local pub and lots of walks and other activities in the area. Luke was great and made everything very easy - thank you!

  • Everything was a wonderful stay. Ian's hospitality was great and we were able to relax as if we were at home. The breakfast with the best view is a lifelong memory. There is also a store nearby to buy food, and we went to buy fresh vegetables every day. The road to the store is about a 10 minute walk with a beautiful view. We sincerely recommend staying at Ian's home!

  • Lovely little house in a great location-rural but local areas of interest easily accessible by road. Spotlessly clean house. Welcoming and helpful hosts and whilst on site, unobtrusive. Nice little touches like having the fire lit when we arrived, eggs from the farm etc. Would happily recommend and definitely stay again.

  • Gill's house is fantastic. We are a big family and have been perfect in your home. A house 100% recommended for families. The surroundings are fabulous ... the farm animals, the forest next door, the exterior of the house ... Gill's family is lovely, they just treated us like one of the family ... I only have thanks for Gill and her husband. I hope to come back soon.

The Snug offers a taste of the 16th Century living, but with underfloor heating! A unique castle bedroom on the ground floor with original stone barrel vaulted ceiling, walk in shower and en suite WC. Antique treasures, modern pieces & fine artwork all call Kilmartin Castle home. A friendly retreat in the heart of Argyll. Discover hidden Scotland! Available for exclusive use. Please ask for availability.
The castle is beautifully rustic. The barrel vaulted stone ceiling in this room is as it was when the castle was built in 1550. Sleeping beneath it feels pretty special! The furnishings are a selection of vintage and modern pieces lovingly collected over time.
Guests always say "We wish we stayed longer, there is so much to see and do!" Kimartin is a small village with big history, centered around Kilmartin Glen, which is within walking distance of the castle. The area has one of the richest concentrations of prehistoric monuments and historical sites in Scotland: Ancient forts, Standing stones and burial cairns are on our doorstep. Kilmartin Museum is a 3min walk from the castle and has a fabulous cafe serving up organic treats. Kilmartin Hotel, also 3mins by foot, serves pub grub, local ales & of course, great whisky!
  • Magical, Extraordinary, Luxurious - We loved staying at Kilmartin Castle. It was a lifelong memory. Stephanie and Simon are fabulous hosts, and made us feel like old friends who were there for a visit. It was magical to imagine looking out these same windows in 1550 when the castle was first built - while feeling very cozy with modern, luxurious comforts. The decor and appointments are thoughtful, beautiful, and comfortable in every detail. We spent the evenings relaxing in the extraordinary great hall by the fire, and the wonderful company (with the hosts and other guests) made the experience even more special, enjoyable, and memorable. The breakfasts were excellent, and it was really fun to eat them in the castle dining room. The area is beautiful and interesting. Stef and SImon gave us great tips and directions. We left after 2 nights wishing we had more time. We've stayed many places we would love to stay again -- this may be the only place we've ever stayed where would definitaly alter the dates of a future trip to make sure we could stay at this wonderful place again!

    Sydney2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Book. This. Place. Now. Kilmartin Castle - along with it's hosts Simon and Stef, make for an incredible Scottish getaway. The castle itself is amazing- they have thought of everything. It is settled in quaint Kilmartin with stunning views all around. It is a stylish, hip space, but there is no loss for comfort here. The bed in the Snug was perfect - the underfloor heating keeps the room toasty warm - no drafts! It is also very quiet, leaving my girlfriend and I to a restful night's sleep. The shower was lovely as well. The Great Hall common area is a great place to unwind - accompanied by a warm fire, stellar vinyl collection, and a nice whisky selection to boot. Simon and Stef are ideal hosts - great conversationalists with a real knack for making you feel at home. They cook a mean breakfast too! I also appreciated their dedication to a lower waste bnb, avoiding single use plastic in their space - not an easy feat! Bottom line is I wish we had stayed longer. We will be back - hopefully to enjoy a dram of Laphroig next time!

    Maxx2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment we stepped foot on the property, we were blown away at all of the amazing things Simon and Stef have done. From the heated floors to the unique decorating, the castle was everything we could have ever imagined. Breakfast was delicious and we really enjoyed the family style meal where we got to meet exciting people from all over the world. I would recommend Kilmartin castle to anyone traveling to Scotland.

90 miles west of Glasgow, this peninsular has spectacular views over the Inner Hebrides. Adjacent to a Marina and Riding Stables our 5 cosy cabins with log fires have charm and simple comforts. Well equipped kitchens or famous restaurants nearby.
Foresters is a cosy cabin in the heart of the estate which looks across horses fields and is a short walk downhill to the bay.
  • Gorgeous setting. Simple accommodation but had everything we needed and surprisingly spacious (there were 2 of us). Local pub is fantastic and great location to exlore Argyll/Oban. Particular highlight for us was the short trip to Tayvallich. We stayed during atrocious weather (early march) and had a brilliant time so can't imagine how great summer would be there

    Sam2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, Savannah and Colin were very friendly and welcoming and the cabin was a great base for trips around the area. Really recommend the local pub, Lord of the Isles - great spot and delicious food.

  • Perfect tucked away wee rustic cabin, in beautiful scenic area close to the sea

    Araminta2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my boyfriend stayed in Crowhill Cabin for 3 nights. We had the best time eating meals looking over the amazing views out across the water, seeing red squirrels, and incredible stargazing on clear nights, as well as lighting the fire on the colder evenings! The cabin itself is in a good condition, it has all the basic amenities anyone could need really and it has a good amount of space too! The cabin is in a beautifully peaceful location near a small village, which we loved, but this does mean that the nearest petrol stations or large shops (ie. tescos/ aldi) are around a 16 mile drive in either Lochgilphead or Oban, but as long as you work this factor into your trip there shouldn't be any issues! The electricity card was very straightforward, and for us it was very cheap as we only used minimal amounts! As a slight warning, the parking by the cabin is accessed up a steep hill which is quite uneven - this shouldn't be a problem for a larger car, but if you are travelling in a small vehicle (like my 1L Daihatsu) it might be more of a struggle! Colin was welcoming and showed us around when we arrived and gave us some recommendations for the local area. We really rated the food and the staff at The Lord of the Isles pub in Craobh Haven which he told us about - a must for anyone visiting! Overall our stay was absolutely incredible and we can't wait to return for more adventures in this beautiful area.

  • Staying at the Foresters Home was great. Waking up to horses whinnying outside and privacy of the country was incredible. I would stay here again.

  • Perfect position with lovely surroundings!

    Patricia2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is just lovely. Its set within a really interesting estate with lovely walks and plenty to see. We stayed for 4 days and as family of 5 (11,10,6) its definitely cosy but it was still comfortable. (a few low storage tubs for under the beds would be so helpful for the kids clothes). The kitchen had everything we needed although a dryer would have been quite useful, but the host let us use theirs so it was all good. Its really close to the sea (which unfortunately had loads of jelly fish this year) but even the walk down to the bay had an exciting muddy cliff climb and there were plenty of rock pools and the girls had great fun!! The WiFi wasn't working which was fantastic!!!! Lol. We played games and watched family films on the DVD player in the evenings. There are also two rope swings which the kids loved and a lovely gentle garden swing. It's near Croabh Haven marina, we didn't go, but I'm sure it's lovely! It's about 40mins to Lochgilphead which has a co-op, swimming pool, craft shops, cafes and restaurants. We spent most of our time exploring the local areas, Cairns and Costa, ruins of old houses and freshwater swimming. Really wonderful holiday.

  • Really great little cottage next door to the main house so when you look out the window you have the same view of the gardens and coast that the Manor House has! The cottage is actually divided into two separate cottages but they are still private from each other. Super clean, and a few nice touches like tea and coffee! It has a little kitchenette too which was perfect for making a little breakfast in the mornings. You can buy the supplies for breakfast in the shop just down the road by the marina, it is attached to the local bar and restaurant.

  • That's what we had in mind when thinking about a real Scottish experience: a wonderful house in the middle of the Highlands, next to the sea. Plenty things to see around, wonderful people - a place where time doesn't exist! Stephanie and Adrian do everything that their guests have a relaxed time! Highly recommended!

  • Highly recommend a stay at the very beautiful Winterton. Stephanie and Adrian went out of their way to made us feel welcome, as comfortable as possible and gave us plenty of tips and advice about the area. The dinner and ambience was fantastic and well worth it. Hoping to see them again soon.

  • Spectacular views. A perfectly appointed, beautifully designed home. The most considerate hosts. Be sure to request a dinner cooked Stephanie and always take time for her 3-course breakfast. If you want to get away from it all, this is it.

    Veronika2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • The location of Winterton is wonderful, with far reaching views of the surrounding countryside. It's just a short walk to the water's edge, and at low tide, you can cross to a small island and watch the bird life. The accommodation is light, spacious and beautifully decorated. Stephanie and Adrian were great hosts, had very good local knowledge about where to go and what to see, and the meals were of an excellent standard.

  • One of the nicest B&B's that we have ever stayed in. Very friendly and helpful owners. Beautiful design and great views overlooking hills and nearby harbor. Our room was perfect, and the breakfast and dinner were exceptional. Would love to stay here every year.

Gabran is a cosy cottage on the North side of Dunadd farm court yard. With an outward facing aspect and views over the garden and river. Gabran has an open plan living room/kitchen and a downstairs bathroom. The bedroom has a double bed and a single suitable for a family of 3. Enjoy walks along the river or up to the top of the ancient Dunadd fort once home to the kings of Scotland.
Dunadd is in Mid Argyll giving great access to Oban to the North where you can travel by ferry to most of the western isles. Campbeltown is to the south, famous for its golf courses and Whisky distilleries. Also nearby are the ferries to Islay, Jura and Gigha. The Crinan canal is within walking distance(4km) via a marked path.
  • Dunadd is a very magical place, whether you are interested in the historical aspects or not. From the top of the fort you find some of the most beautiful views in all of Scotland. I have been staying in the cottages at the foot of Dunadd for many years, and they never disappoint. Even with the original owners now moved on, Ewan and Leslie are more than up for the job. The accommodation is of the highest quality and cleanliness. You will lack for nothing. If you like a dip into nature, you'll appreciate this rich area and the cottages themselves, the horses, the wandering chickens and the two astounding hairy pigs! I cannot recommend Dunadd Cottages highly enough.

  • Lovely place, out the way. Great little spot to stay for hikers and sight seeing. The cottage is spot on.

  • Perfect location for exploring the Dal Riada area, the accommodation is a home away from home with everything you need for a very relaxed stay. The fresh farm eggs on arrival were a nice touch. The host also recommended the Cainbann hotel for dinner (only 5mins drive away) and we were very impressed with the meals and service. Would definitely stay again.

  • You couldn't ask for a better base to explore the West Coast . The cottage itself is spotless, incredibly comfortable and gives you the port of Oban, forests and lochs of Knapdale as well as the islands of Jura and Islay all within easy reach. We are already planning a return trip!

Dalriada is surrounded by mature gardens overlooking rear pastures which extend to tree-covered hills rising above the river Add. It offers peace and quite while still only 10 minutes from Lochgilphead and ideally situated for seeing the sights around Argyll and Western Scotland. The luxurious guest room includes a writing desk and access to a separate guest bathroom. You will feel most welcome here as couples, solo adventurers, with children and/or furry friends.
My wife Jenn and I live at Dalriada with our Lhasa Apso Gracie. Set in idyllic Argyll, our home is cosy, quiet, clean and private. It is tastefully decorated throughout and though secreted within lush surroundings, the large windows flood the rooms with natural light.
We are close to standing stones, ancient Dunadd, enchanting Moine Mhor, historic Kilmartin, Islay ferry for whisky tours, picturesque Inverary and countless activities like: hiking, fishing, kayaking, bird watching, yoga, photography; and endless access to unique nature reserves, castles, and lochs. We can provided guidance and recommendations during your stay.
  • An amazing place in Argyll! Wonderful hospitality, great tips, and a relaxing space. Looking forward to coming again.

  • Everett & Jenn are excellent hosts. I cannot recommend them highly enough. If you are looking for somewhere in Argyll area definitely stay here.

  • If Everett & Jen are not 'Super Hosts' then they should be. We had a wonderful stay in their lovely home. They were most welcoming and helpful. Their house was scrupulously clean. They allowed us to use their kitchen and comfy sitting room. Delicious items were offered for breakfast, many sourced locally by Jen from her well stocked Deli in Lochgilphead. I would thoroughly recommend anyone to stay in this beautiful location.

  • We are a young couple from China and stayed one night at Jenn's house. It is a very nice house and well decorated. I love its design and paintings on the wall. The room and bathroom are very clean and tidy. They also prepared a guidebook and some travel books for us which are very helpful. Since we have to leave for Islay in the early morning, it was pity that we didn't have chance to say goodbye to Jenn. They also prepared breakfast for us. We really appreciate their arrangements and help. Free parking is perfect as well. It was a good experience!

    瑶瑶2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Jenn was a friendly and warm host who was always giving out useful and informative information. She also made you feel very welcome in her home - which was very beautiful and clean. The room was a perfect place to stay as we passed through and was really close to lots of archaeological remains which we had visited previously. Breakfast and hot and cold drinks were provided and we had fresh towels in our bedroom. To top it all off we met Gracie the dog who was the cutest.

    Chris2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Our 3 nights stay in Everetts house was very pleasant and friendly. Everything was tip top OK. The relatively unkown area was full of surprises, worth spending several days: megaliths of KilMartin, Crinan wood rain forest and ancient stronghold Dunaidd. And interesting walks. Everett was very helpful with suggestions.

  • Everything we expected! Great apartment, great location; very tranquil on Bonfire night (our reason for choosing as my wee dog is terrified of loud noises). Sparkling clean with just about everything you need; felt like home from home. Aggie the labrador is lovely too (no chickens as in listing; made life easier than I expected with my own dog). Thanks

  • Such an amazing space. Cosy, warm and perfectly located. 7 minutes drive to Lochgilphead, 5 minutes drive to Kilmartin and 2 minutes walk to Dunadd. The kitchen is well equipped, and the view from the lounge is peaceful. We will be staying here again one day. Communication with Ewan was fantastic. Thanks again
