  • Paul was a great host in that his communication was great and kept us in the loop at all times. On arrival the apartment was chilly despite Paul having sent a message earlier saying he’d put the heating on at 4.30pm and that it would be warm for us on arrival. We did discuss this later with Paul and established it was a technical error with the heating. We easily overcame the 8C room temperature by flicking the heating to manual and within an hour the room heated up to a more comfortable 16C. Later in our stay the room temperature went well above 21C. The apartment was clean, tastefully decorated with lovely plush carpeting throughout. The bathroom was modern, big and the shower was hot and powerful. The bedroom was also a good size and it was useful to have a well equipped kitchen. Also the nice touches like biscuits, hot cross buns and beers as well as cereals tea, coffee and milk added to the experience. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this property and thanks again to Paul for his great hospitality.

  • My husband and I stopped off at Paul's place in between travels. His communication was fast and detailed - he gave great directions to the accommodation. The place was clean, tidy and stylish. We really appreciated the small homely things including biscuits and breakfast supplied. Would definitely recommend.

  • Communication with Paul was excellent , great host . The living space is very stylish & cosy . The bed was very comfortable. Lovely bathroom . Good base to explore the area although we were battered by storm Dennis so the great dvd collection came in handy as did the well equipped kitchen . Would definitely recommend and stay again if in the area .

  • The room is very clean, modern, comfortable, quiet and in a nice area, particularly with the views of the castle. We found it particularly helpful that most kitchen utilities were provided so we could cook. Paul also communicated very quickly and helpfully which we are most grateful for. Overall it’s a great space, very modestly priced from a kind and helpful host. Very highly recommended!!

Owls Loft is a self contained holiday cottage with a private outdoor seating area and paddock. In a tranquil, rural setting, with views of the Cheshire Plain, this is a great place to recharge your batteries. It is well located to visit the Peak District, or get the train into Manchester from Macclesfield or Congleton. There are a number of National Trust properties within easy reach, as well as Alton Towers, Chatsworth House, the antique shops of Leek and the pottery towns of Stoke on Trent.
Owls Loft has a cosy cottage feel, but is spacious and comfortable. The kitchen and shower room are located on the ground floor and upstairs is a sitting room, with log burner, and a double bedroom. Outside there is a private patio seating area and you have exclusive access to a small paddock.
Owls Loft is on the edge of Biddulph Moor, a village in the Staffordshire countryside. We have 2 pubs, 2 shops and a school and we are just a few miles from Congleton or Leek, and any amenities you may need are available in Biddulph, just down the hill. This is a lovely area for walking, and we are just up the road from Biddulph Grange Gardens and country park.
  • What a lovely place. Beautiful accommodation. Cosy but with everything you need. A lovely and quiet location. Sue was lovely. Definitely recommend it.

  • If you are looking and thinking is this place as good as it seems ...then the answer is YES and more. Just book it and make sure you are ready to relax and just take it the fresh air and unwind for a few days. My only advice to anyone is to book at least three days and of course visit the local National Trust locations nearby ( 2 within 15 minute drive ).

    Terry2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Sue's place was exactly as described in the other reviews, cosy, clean and homely. We stayed for three nights and could have stayed for more, the layout was a clever use of space which made it the perfect size. Owl's loft was equipped with everything we could have possibly needed, which was great especially as we love cooking when we're away. If you are looking for a walk definitely visit Lud's Church, about a half an hour drive away, Biddulph Grange Garden National Trust is also a must see. One thing I would say is if you were looking to visit a pub for the evening you'd probably have to get a cab as the property is down a lane that wouldn't be ideal to walk down. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to stay, great location and very homely.

  • It’s so clean and a lovely cottage well designed for the needs of a couple or four people was so lovely being able take out dog and such lovely furniture and the scenery was breath taking.

  • Great stay this week at Susan’s place. Spotless, lovely touches and perfect for a cosy break away

    Theo2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Owls Loft is a real gem in the lovely English countryside. After long days out exploring in the Peak District, it was great to come back to the cosy cottage that is Owls Loft. The cosy fireplace was a real treat & the kitchen was well stocked. A great idea to have ‘just in case’ box in the bathroom too.

A beautiful place to stay with a double bed, big garden, big views and an easy walk to two good pubs. The guest room has recently been decorated and the kitchen is modern and well equipped. You're welcome to use the living room with TV and other home comforts. The location is rural, yet just ten minutes drive from town, the railway station or M6 J17. There is ample parking space, even storage for a bicycle. I offer a continental breakfast. Other options are available by arrangement.
The house is 1920's, set well back from a very quiet road, so you really won't be bothered by traffic. Transport connections are very good, yet there are rural walks from the front door, or the Peak District is just a short drive away. And if you enjoy fishing there is a private pond next door that offers day tickets. The house is full of period features, it has a wood-burning stove in the living room, also central heating. In Congleton, there are numerous pubs and restaurants, a good selection of small shops and supermarkets.

Private bedroom in a detached house in a safe cul- de -sac next to a peaceful canal. Based in the picturesque village of Congleton. Excellent transport links into Manchester.
Train into Manchester only takes 40 minutes. The train station that goes directly into the city via other towns such as Macclesfield and Stockport is a 5 minute walk away along the beautiful canal. Lovely walks from the front door. 15 minute walk through residential and park settings into the town centre where plenty of lovely and varied restaurants are. Basic breakfast included; tea, coffee, cereals, bread and milk. We are a couple in our 30's and welcome all people of every background. We have a friendly cat, Emma, who loves to talk to you so it would be best if you liked cats. The cat is not allowed in the bedrooms. Smart television with casting device so you can play anything you want including Netflix. No regular TV channels. Bikes available to borrow to explore the local area.
Quiet and safe cul-de-sac with a nice 15 minute walk into the local town and a 5 minute walk to the train station. 1 minute away from a canal with lovely walks including bike routes and climbing.
  • Beth was very accommodating to my constantly evolving plans and helped me with an earlier check in that I had originally planned. The room was a nice size and a spacious double bed was comfortable. The bathroom was nice and the shower was okay. Beth was hospitable allowing guests to use wifi and the kitchen like it was your own home, as long as you kept the common spaces clean (which is standard etiquette around someone else's house) she was happy. Beth was happy to lend her bike and maps to guests if you wanted to tour the local area and was happy to give advice about where to go and what to see locally. I had a very limited experience with the host (I was out/busy when she was in and vice versa) but she seemed like a lovely lady and outgoing. Thanks for everything Beth.

  • Beth (and Emma the cat) were both very welcoming, the room is exactly as described, I had a great nights rest. Beth was very understanding of travel arrangements and very accommodating! I'll be sure to stay in I'm ever in the area again.

Possibly the most comfortable bed I've slept in beside my own as well :D Would highly recommend her place to anyone visiting Congleton.

    Hurst Cottage
Find Hurst Cottage on the corner of a leafy green country road, in the village of Biddulph in Staffordshire, boasting large gardens and bursting with character inside and out, you will have an amazing time getting to know this lovely area. The property lends itself well to families and couples because of the open space and many nooks and crannies to explore, with the small river running through part of the garden making it truly unique.Park up the car and head down the stone steps, to the main door, and make your way into the lovely kitchen which is home to pretty pale blue cabinets and a wood counter tops, giving the room a classic cottage feel.A woodburning stove sits in the middle of the exposed red brick wall, and is accessible from the other side in the dining area, alongside a large grey stone feature wall where the original fireplace would have been years ago. This dining area has large windows with views out to the river down below, and with the windows open on a summer day, you can listen to the sound of the water flowing, while the birds sing in the trees.More incredible stonework features on the walls of the sitting room, containing sofas and chairs for you to make yourself comfy in, and why not have a chilled film night using the widescreen TV for those quiet evenings in.Upstairs there is a modern bathroom suite and next door is the master bedroom, adorned with solid wood furniture and a TV, while the second bedroom is twin.To the outside where you’ll hopefully be able to spend a lot of time (if the weather behaves!) you’ll find a bubbling hot tub, set into the decking looking over the rest of the beautiful garden, which stretches on for what seems like forever!Take a minute to discover this fairytale-esque garden; cross the little bridge over the river, run in between the shrubbery. The local area offers some great day out opportunities, like visiting Biddulph Grange, a National Trust owned house and landscaped gardens, with the gardens divided into many areas based on their influences around the world, or take a walk up to Mow Cop Castle, a hilltop stone tower, set on the ridge that forms the boundary between the counties Cheshire and Staffordshire.Day trips over to Chester, Liverpool or Manchester could be on the cards being all within an hour and a half drive away, so if you're not often in this area of the UK, head over to one of these bustling cities that all have so much to offer.Enjoy your holiday in a property full of character and interesting features like Hurst Cottage, and you will make beautiful memories.

  • The cottage is stunning, set in a peaceful location with beautiful surroundings. This is the second time I have stayed and I am coming back another two times this year! The water wheel was turning this time and we whiled away the hours in the hot tub surrounded by bird song and the running river next to us. Absolute heaven. Really comfortable with all amenities. Love it.

    Esther2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • It's absolutely beautiful.... The cottage, the garden, the location! A river runs through the bottom of the garden and just sat listening to the water and watching the waterfall and water wheel was wonderful. It's a short walk to a decent pub (Talbot) and close to the country park. Cottage was so warm, cosy and welcoming and the hot tub just perfect. We highly recommend Hurst Cottage!

Fabulous space, amazing garden and the little touches like milk and cookies just topped it all off. I dont think you will find a better place in the area. Perfect just does not do this place justice!

  • The kitchen was really well kitted. The wifi was good. It has lovely views and is right under the folly walking trails. The beds were comfy. The apartment was very clean.

  • A perfect family cottage with all the equipment you could need. There's all the usual bit and bobs plus a box of board games, books to browse and even a set of blankets if it gets a bit breezy. The cottage is in a beautiful spot with what must be magnificent views on a clear day, such a shame we were there in the rain. Maybe we'll have to revisit just for the view from the bedroom!

Viz was happy advise on local amenities and was great at recommending the best to use. Viz was also very good at instructions on how(to use) and where everything was. Her Partner Greig was just as charming and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for either of them. They were very patient with me, even though they had planned a night out. I would highly recommend them and thank you for my stay.

Welcome to the all new Pamper Van, Ruby! This brand new mobile home is a luxurious rural retreat. The stunning secluded location will make you feel a million miles from anywhere, but there is plenty to do in the local area. Complete with hot tub Ruby offers a bespoke break for up to 4 people. Choose from a holiday for a girly break with pamper treatments or a romantic escape for two. Whatever you do, your woodland surroundings will work their quiet magic on you.
Whether you are in need of some much needed rest and relaxation, looking for some peace and quiet, or just want to escape into the country to explore Staffordshire’s surrounding attractions, The Pamper Van can accommodate your every need.
Located approximately 4 miles away from Fairboroughs Farm, Leek market town is a haven for lovers of antiques and factory shops and also has a weekly outdoor market selling an array of goods. The beautiful spa town of Buxton is a ‘must visit’ for any visitors to the area. Buxton lies just outside the National Park boundaries, but is the most important town for most of the western and central Peak. The site has been occupied since at least Roman times. The Romans were attracted by the warm springs and built baths here and for the following centuries the springs have been a major source of income and importance for Buxton. We are located in the Staffordshire Moorlands on the edge of The Peak District. A perfect base for sight seeing what the area has to offer. Alton Towers is approximately 20 minutes away.

On your doorstep, you will find a couple of local shops, award-winning Chinese takeaway, 2 pubs, a beer cafe named 'The Wonky Pear', a Sandwich Shop (makes the best breakfast baps), pie shop, local chippy and even a pet shop! You literally have everything you need within a short walk for the perfect stay!
A traditional 2-up, 2-down cottage with a home-from-home feel. Two large reception rooms downstairs with a dining table, which can double up as a workspace. The kitchen is small but perfectly formed with washing machine, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster and microwave. You will find two good size bedrooms upstairs with the bathroom. Iron with ironing board and hairdryer are available for your stay.
Local amenities are on your doorstep at this property as mentioned in the description. Within walking distance are Macclesfield canal, presently used for narrow boats and the Cloud, the main local landmark (which can be viewed from the upstairs window!). There are many great walking and biking trails, you will find many leaflets in the Cottage for local attractions. Congleton town centre is a 10/15 minute walk, a thriving market town with its own interesting history, there is an extremely helpful tourist information centre at the town hall if you want to discover the hidden gems of Cheshire! Close by are several country houses to visit, incl. Completely self-contained self-catering accommodation in a quiet peaceful location. Very suitable for distancing yourself away from the worries of the modern life. Birds Nest Cabin is a comfortable budget accommodation. It is quite basic inside but it has all modern amenities: TV, WiFi, kitchen with microwave, cooker, kettle, toaster, fridge, crockery, utensils. It is has well established garden and outdoor terrace with beautiful views. There is a fire pit, outdoor sitting and parking.
You will stay in a 2 bedroom cabin in a rural location on Cheshire/Staffs border. Cabin is in a peaceful position tucked away on the side of a hill with views over green pastures and Congleton Edge. The location is very peaceful and quiet, lots of wildlife. Birds Nest has 2 bedrooms - a double and a twin. It has a small bathroom with a shower, a WC, fully equipped kitchen (gas cooker, fridge freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, kitchen utensils, crockery), TV. There is a wall-mounted electric heater in the main bedroom and extra electric heaters for a smaller bedroom/sitting room. Duvets, pillows, bed linen and guest size towels are provided. There are extra duvets for each bed. There is no central heating and hot water is limited. You can wash dishes, brush teeth and wash hands etc but although, there is a shower - hot water doesn’t last long in it! this is because hot water is provided by a consecutive water heater, it means that once the heated amount of 25l is used it needs 10-15 min to heat up the next batch. We have a shower block a short walk (1-2 min of very slow walking :) away from Birds Nest, which guests are welcome to use. Birds Nest comes with outside terrace with table and chairs, cast iron fire pit, beautiful mature garden and outdoor space.
Peaceful rural location. Local golf course neighbours the farm. Local amenities are 2 miles away in Congleton, a thriving market town. Traditional English pub, serving food is 600 yards away. Many historical attractions, country walks and trails nearby. Within walking distance are Macclesfield canal, presently used for narrow boats and the Cloud, the main local landmark, - a high outcrop of rocks overlooking the Cheshire Plain, which can be conquered at a leisurely pace in 40 minutes. Also, close by are several country houses to visit, incl.Biddulph Grange (National Trust – 2 miles), Little Moreton Hall (National Trust 3 miles), Gawsworth Hall and Capesthorne Hall (both privately owned Grand Country Houses - 6 miles) and the Tatton Park (NT) is a 30 minute drive. Middle Barn is a newly converted barn and has many original features as well as modern comforts including underfloor heating downstairs, excellent WiFi, and finished to a high standard. Situated on a working farm on parkland which has 3/4 mile frontage to Rudyard Lake as well as having the Staffordshire Way footpath running through makes this a great base for both fishing and exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside.
Middle Barn is a conversion of a late nineteenth century farm building. It has all the charm of an old barn with original openings and stunning views over the Peak District and the village below. The farmland - a former Victorian golf course - runs down to the edge of beautiful Rudyard Lake with boating and fishing available.
The farm is nestled in parkland with 3/4 mile frontage of Rudyard Lake, a huge tourist draw in the Victorian era, and where Rudyard Kipling's parents spent their honeymoon. Further afield, the town of Leek and the neighbouring surrounds of the Staffordshire Moorlands present a wealth of family-friendly locally run businesses providing great produce and offering outdoor adventure. Within five miles of the farm you can experience rock climbing at the Roaches, a stunning escarpment which marks the end of the Pennine Way; Tittesworth Reservoir with kayaking and paddle boarding and a brilliant childrens' playground and cafe; mountain biking and motorbike scrambling. There are dozens of stunning walks, local markets and great pubs selling good food made from local produce. Our nearest town, Leek, affectionately called 'The Queen of the Moorlands' is a friendly Totally Locally market town. There are markets on all through the week and lots of local home-grown produce available. As a Totally Locally town, it supports local small businesses so you will find lots of independent cafes, bars, health shops, antique shops and the like. Further afield are the beautiful towns of Ashbourne, Bakewell and Buxton and the adventure of Alton Towers is only 17 miles away.
  • This place is really the most beautiful place I have ever been to in England. Also Julian is an amazing guy who is doing everything for you to make it a great stay. I'm so grateful to Julian for this beautiful location. It's so peaceful, the nature is beautiful, the bed is really cozy and the showers 😍😍! Wow! I'll advise this place to everybody who loves nature and also loves to walk. I'm an entrepreneur myself and was in need of a great place with fast internet. And I can tell you...the internet is really fast! So yes, thank you once again, Julian, for this amazing stay! Highly recommended to everybody!

  • Middle Barn is a fantastic place to stay and a wonderful base to explore the area. There is so much to do in and around the lake. Julian was just a great host, very welcoming, thoughtful and really has made the barn a super comfortable place to stay. Highly recommended.

  • Beautiful place to stay, great location and so cozy and clean. Great for families. Definitely recommend a stay here you won’t be disappointed.

  • Perfect stay - relaxing location and spotless accommodation . Secure garden for dog which we didn’t use really due to the weather (but would be lovely to sit out in better weather) with gorgeous views of the countryside . Ate at the Lazy Trout one day on Julians recommendation - definitely worth a visit . It was so impressive we booked again for Sunday lunch which again was fabulous . Lots of lovely walks in the area - we particularly enjoyed Biddulph park and Lyme House NT with the dog . All in all a lovely and relaxing week away . Thank you :-)

  • Lovely stay at middle barn. Spacious accommodation, garden was a big bonus. Comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. Clean and modern decoration throughout. Beautiful scenery, the view from the garden was picturesque. Perfect for a New Years break for us and our dog :)

    Danielle2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The barn was even better than we expected - it was cozy and stylish and more than enough room for our family at Christmas. Julian was a great host and was communicative and helpful - we spent Christmas there and he made it very comfortable for us to spend the festive period there. The location is in the heart of the countryside but close enough to amenities so you don’t feel cut off. I would recommend it to friends and family for a wonderful break in the Peak District.

    Megan2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned from a week at Middle Barn and only have great things to say about our trip. Julian's barn is beautifully decorated and was stocked with everything we needed for a few days away. We were travelling with our newborn baby and what could have been a stressful holiday was made really easy by having such a lovely place to stay. We would definitely recommend Middle Barn to anyone looking to stay in the area!

    Alison2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lynn’s place was our absolute favorite. It fit 3 of us comfortably with so much room to spare. The place was sparkling clean and had everything we needed. We made use of the outside patio since it was nice and warm during our stay. Moreover you could not beat the location! 5 minute walk to high street, where we spend most of our leisure time eating, shopping, and exploring. We recommend Crema for breakfast, and The Old King’s Arms for everything else. We did not have a car, but the taxi companies Lynn provided were excellent. We do not meet Lynn on our stay, but she was fast to response to any questions we had. We definitely will be back, if given the chance.

I am really close to Haywood, but close to North Staffs Hospital. I have a spare double room available to rent, which overlooks the garden. Recently redecorated and modern styling. Ideal for professionals due to the great commuter links that Stoke's location has to offer.
North Stoke location, great for commuting. Beautiful walks close by for jogging and hiking.
  • Really pleased with my stay at Elizabeth's house, it's very spacious, arty, and have a lovely garden. The location was perfect as it isn't far to travel to work at the hospital. I would definitely stay here again. Elizabeth is really attentive, and helps out any way she can. I would highly recommend this place! Thanks for all your help 👍🏽

Holly Bush Cottage is a self contained Cheshire brick barn set alongside Holly Bush Farm House in the Cheshire countryside. The cottage has a clean, modern feel with one bedroom on the ground floor and a second double bed located on the large mezzanine level accessible by ladder. Two great food pubs are within walking distance, and the M6 within a 10 minute drive. Sandbach and Congleton are accessible by car in a few minutes and offer all the shops and amenities you may need.
The cottage is warm and cozy with underfloor heating throughout, wooden shutters and a large comfy sofa. The kitchen contains a full oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and washing machine. A small 4 seat dining / working table is provided along with a large LCD TV with Freeview. The cottage is located next to the main house and is completely self contained. It has its own keys and entrance, and both properties are located behind electric wooden gates so are very private. Holly Bush Farm has around 4 acres of garden and paddock and guests are welcome to use these spaces respectfully.
The Brownlow Inn is renowned locally for its food and atmosphere and is a 5 minute walk away. (URL HIDDEN) The Blue Bell is a historic pub, great for open fires, food and a glass of wine and is only 5 minutes walk in the opposite direction. (URL HIDDEN)
  • Holly Bush Cottage is a very stylish property and was spotlessly clean. We spent three lovely nights there...never saw the owners, but no real need, as we had no problems. Make sure you download the directions before getting near to the property, as the signal in the area wasn't great for us, so we couldn't open the attachment to get the access code to get in the gate. Can highly recommend the nearby gastro pub, the Brownlow Inn... started to walk to it, but it was dark and an unlit road, so we opted to go back and get the car! Great food...probably best to book, as we got the last table on a Friday night.

    Alison2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the cottage was great! It was absolutely stunning, the pictures don’t do it justice. Really clean and the beds were super comfy. Check in and check out were easy. Two pubs within a few minutes walk - we went to the Brownlow Inn and the food was amazing. The only downfall was that the shower was lukewarm at best. After our first morning we discovered a boost button on the boiler, however weren’t sure how long this would take to have an effect and so didn’t use it on our second morning before 10am checkout.

  • If you’re looking for a lovely place for a countryside getaway or just a place to stop over for a few nights then this is the perfect place for you. It was spacious and Richard left some milk, biscuits and teabags for us which was greatly appreciated. Overall, we had a great stay!

    Sarah2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed to meet up with friends in the area, the instructions for reaching the cottage were spot on and the gate system works really well. It's very secure and private. Richard responded to messages quickly. The kitchen is extensively stocked, you really don't need to take anything as the hosts have thought of everything! The mezzanine is quirky and went down a treat with the teenager. The living space is comfortable, the bathroom a good size and the cottage had everything we needed for our time in the area. There were some nice little touches from the hosts and the towels were amazing and fluffy! (going to look for some for my house now!). Recommended. The Brownlow pub is well worth a visit
