My family and I will make sure you understand coffee farming and process from our 80 years experience of cultivating coffee on our farm. Coffee unites us, and we'll help you understand the market so you can choose better, and why organic farming is so different from what you may think. You'll learn about the realities of farming from our family who aren't using chemicals to produce an excellent cup of coffee. We'll spend almost one hour talking about the process, and help you understand coffee and farming with an open mind. We'll see the plants, the roasting, and the brewing. You'll discover how to make a better cup of coffee, how to get what you want from a java cup, and learn about other products made with the coffee fruit. You'll support a family who'll give you a unique and authentic experience. Other things to note Come with hiking boots and long pants. You must drive to get to our farm or take a bus at 9 AM from Atenas.
Produciendo Café en el Bosque Nuboso de Monteverde
This is not a commercial coffee tour, it is an educational experience to create awareness in the only organic specialty coffee plantation in the Monteverde area, located in the Ecological Sanctuary, a 48 hectares family project focused on conservation, sustainability, agroecology, education and culture. In a guided workshop by an expert where you will learn from the basics of ancestral agriculture, how we create our own organic fertilizers, then you will know the coffee gardens planted in the forest that surrounds the Ecological Sanctuary, the drying area, and the process that involves the specialty coffee (history, plantations, growth, development, varieties and the science of flavor to prepare a good coffee). After leaving the forest, we will enjoy a guided coffee tasting, sharpening the senses to recognize defects, attributes, aromas and flavors in different qualities of coffee. Finally, we will create an interactive demonstration of the science of flavor and all the variables that an alchemist applies in the preparation of a coffee using different infusion methods. This workshop is an experience that will expand your knowledge of the world of coffee and help you become a home barista and an informed consumer. We also invite you to explore more of our property by hiking our trails, and connecting with nature.
Cooking Costa Rica Homemade Food
Welcome to my home! First I will explain you how the Costa Rican diet has impacted the longevity and health of locals. Then you will learn why I chose the specific ingredients for the 6 traditional dishes that we will cook: - Empanadas - Arroz con Pollo (perfumed rice with chicken) - Gallo Pinto (traditional rice and beans) - Tortillas con Queso (handmade tortillas with local cheese) - Picadillo de Papa (potatoes in chunks with ground beef) - Fried Yuca I will demonstrate, oversee and guide the class so that you are the one who is cooking. My goal is that you can replicate the recipes when you return back home. One of the highlights that guests love the most is that you will keep plenty of yummy leftovers, so your experience remains for the following day. I recommend you booking days before departing CR. These recipes have been transmitted generation after generation. I learned them from my mother and they will be handed to you. I will explain to you on what occasions we normally cook them, what are the secrets for the best taste and stories behind these dishes. Making tortillas and empanadas are perfect activities for children, they love playing with corn dough, I do that with my little grandson Samuel when he visits me. Meanwhile, teens and adults learn more elaborated recipes. Please let me know if you have dietary restrictions. Local food has many alternatives.

Irazu Volcano and Cartago City by train
A tour to get to know nature and travel in Costa Rican public transport (train and bus). The plan is to get to know one of Costa Rica's majestic volcanoes: Irazú Volcano! Undoubtedly the central theme is to be able to visit the volcano and get to know its craters up close through a viewpoint. However, the idea is to take the train from San José to Cartago, where we will find you at the station, to walk through the city of Cartago, which was many years ago the capital of Costa Rica, where we will be able to learn more about the history of the Antigua Metrópoli. Next, we will board the bus to Irazu Volcano together (if you wish we can hire private transportation, additional payment). Once we are in the Irazú Volcano National Park we can see up close, thanks to a viewpoint that provides the park, the Diego de La Haya Crater, Playa Hermosa, the Main Crater and we will climb to the highest point of the place. We will visit places like the famous Ruins, the Basilica of the Angels, the Plaza Mayor, the Market and even the Old Military Quarter of the city. We will start the tour at 8:15 am and finish around 2 pm for lunch and return by bus or train from 3:47 pm to San Jose. What are you waiting for? Book your tour with The Company!

Sloths & Wilderness, Expert guided Nature Stroll in San Jose
This is the MUST-DO experience in SJO for nature lovers! We will explore the hidden ecosystem resting inside the University of Costa Rica's campus, the first public university in the country, by the hand of the young biologists who study here. Be ready for amazing bird-watching, curious insects, all sorts of tropical plants and the cherry on top of the cake: the small population of sloths living wild and free on the campus' gardens. Many times we will try some wild berries and smell all sorts of barks and flowers. We'll be talking about art, history, indigenous culture, and most of all, nature. This is a full senses experience so you will get to see, touch, smell, taste, and listen to nature thriving amidst our country's biggest city. *** From May to November we recommend booking on the morning slot due to rainy afternoons, however, the afternoons are also great DISCLAIMER: This is not a Recue Center or Sloth Sactuary Tour. You will not be able to touch them, if found, the sloths will be seen in their natural habitat, which means most of the time they will be sleeping on the trees. Still, our experience is your best option at San Jose if you're a true nature lover. This is a 2,5h walking tour, some parts will be exposed to intense sunlight. Not a heavy walk, but please consider your physical condition
