What you'll do

My family and I will explain our coffee farming experience so you'll have a better idea of what your lovely coffee means. Coffee unites us, and we'll help you understand the market so you can choose better, and why organic farming is so different from what you may think. You'll learn about the realities of farming from real farmers who aren't using chemicals to produce an excellent cup of coffee. We'll spend almost one hour talking about the process, and help you understand coffee and farming with an open mind. We'll see the plants, the roasting, and the brewing. You'll discover how to make a better cup of coffee, how to get what you want from a java cup, and learn about other products made with the coffee fruit. You'll support a family who'll give you a unique and authentic experience.
Other things to note
Come with hiking boots and long pants. You must drive to get to our farm or take a bus at 9 AM from Atenas.

I am a farmer who grew up on coffee. I also grew up learning how to live in harmony with nature. By doing so, my family has tried to make life better, not only for ourselves, but also for the environment and our community. It seems like hard work, but when you enjoy it—it's worth it. Thanks to decisions made by my dad to be healthier, we've all learned things we didn't expect.

WOW! What an experience. And I say experience because it went beyond vacation. Beauty, relaxation but also learning and sharing and laughing! El Toledo Coffee Farm is amazing. Not just coffee but coffee wine, coffee marmalade and more things made from the whole of the coffee fruit. There is also cacao, passion fruit, bananas, plantains, etc. We had lunch up the hill at La Casa Del Alto which just added to the whole experience / adventure. If you will be anywhere near Atenas you should be sure to go to San Isidro and do the El Toledo Coffee tour and breakfast or lunch at La Casa Del Alto.

So much more than a tour of a coffee farm which is what we came for. Thought provoking questions and interactive presentation. We love the tastings, understanding of the different coffees and more importantly knowing what and how we can support local farmers like Gabriel around the world. Amazing time and worth every penny!

Gabriels presentation was great. We so enjoyed his perspective on things. He went out of his way to introduce us to new things(cocoa plants) and to make it personal. It didn't feel he or his wife were just repeating things. Very informative and educational! We have a new perspective on coffee!

This was the most AMAZING experience, especially for a coffee lover! You can tell that Gabriel is passionate about what he does, and he is obviously very caring and creative about his craft. While he is extremely knowledgeable, he admits that he is always learning, which is admirable. Getting to walk around and see everything that was growing (not just coffee!) was incredible and learning about the process of processing and brewing coffee was priceless, not to mention the other unique products he makes with the “waste” of the coffee fruit. HIGHLY recommend this tour!
