I've stayed at Narina's a number of times and absolutely adore it. It is such a peaceful and stunning location it makes working from home feel like a breeze. Carol, Mike and Narina are also so warm, welcoming, and responsive it feels exactly like home. I will keep coming back here when I am in South Africa.

Farm stay in Howick

We arrived as strangers and left as friends. Angela and Wayne treated us as long held friends in going far beyond what could have been expected of them as hosts. Their rodavel in the big garden was peaceful and we enjoyed swimming in the pool after a hot day out.

Unique place. We enjoyed our stay. Well furnished and comfortable. Pleasant walks on the farm. Nice and quiet we slept well. The nougat gift was very nice. The place looked clean when we got there and linen and towels were all very nice and clean. In the kitchen though while it looked clean there was oil on the floor and counter tops. It had been wiped but not cleaned. Possible the previous guest had dropped cooking oil we were not sure what had happened . The floor was quite slippery and we had to be very careful. We spoke to the hosts who provided us with cleaning materials and a mop for us to clean it which we did.

This truely is a magical little cottage. Most amazing nature surroundings, our family loved the waterfalls and eagles nesting in the valley. Awesome friendly and warm hearted host Maryna that welcomed us and made sure we were settled and had everything we needed and beyond... her pinics are next level and our family would recommend the experience to all guests. An absolute MUST :) We are staying there again for sure!!

Guesthouse in Indlovu DC

The best stay at the Rondavel at Gartmore Farm 😍. We loved it so much we stayed an extra night (4 nights in total). The cottage has its own fenced in private garden so our dogs were safe & secure. Also, the walks and runs on the farm are so beautiful, bordering the Karkloof cycling trails as well, so very easily accessible. Also on the Karkloof conservancy so a treat for birders. The most relaxing and active stay we have had in a while and we can't wait to be back!

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. It was a peaceful getaway from the hustle and bustle. The hosts were warm and welcoming. The fresh eggs, milk and fruit was an added bonus. The fishing was top class. Awesome view of the dam and surroundings. We saw some amazing lighting storms and waking up to see the wild rabbits out front was a first for us. Will definitely be back again.

A Soul-Refreshing Stay in the Heart of the Midlands. We had THE most incredible stay—thank you! 🙏 This place is pure magic. It refuelled our souls, wrapped us in nature’s embrace, and left us in awe. 🌿✨ The breath-taking views, the warmth of the home, and the serenity of the surroundings—everything ticked all our boxes and more. Without a doubt, this is one of THE most special places we’ve ever stayed. We will definitely be back! And when my son visits SA, I’ll be bringing him here—he’s going to fall in love, just like we did. The heart of this place isn’t just in its landscapes, but also in its people. Your staff are just as wonderful as the view! A special mention to Thulani, who looks after the orphaned baby cow—his kindness, care, and deep love for the animals were truly inspiring. I cherished our chats about farm life and all the creatures that call this place home. I hope the little calf grows up strong 💪Thank you again for sharing this slice of heaven with us! We will be bac

If you looking for a place to unplug, recharge from life this is the place to go. We looked for remote tranquility and that's what we got. Dael was very friendly and welcoming. My daughter absolutely loved that she could wonder and cuddle the horses when she wanted, my son loved the pool table, and exploring the paths around the accommodation. We had one very hot walk to a beautiful little River that feed a little hidden natural pool. The rest of the time we had rain ,but having the table tennis and pool table kept everyone entertained, we still went for rainy walks which were so lovely and found a few lovely streams. There is a little restaurant not to far away which is nice to know. But all in all , what we wanted we got, away from hustle and bustle, calm and tranquil forcing you to relax.

Your guide to Nottingham Road
All About Nottingham Road
Surrounded by rolling hills and golden plains, the town of Nottingham Road is 45 minutes northwest of Pietermaritzburg — the capital of KwaZulu-Natal province — and 90 minutes west of Durban. By name and by nature, Nottingham Road recalls old-world England, but its cultural heritage is rich and diverse. The scenic South African agricultural town nestles in the foothills of the Drakensberg mountain range, which climb nearly 3,500 meters and are a popular abseiling location. At Nottingham Road’s cafes, you can taste the local bounty, from artisan cheese to freshly caught trout, and sample refreshing beers at the brewery a few minutes south of town.
Nottingham Road lies in one of South Africa’s premier fly-fishing destinations, and many of the anglers are after rainbow and brown trout. Golfers also flock here to play on the five courses in the area. About 30 minutes away in Howick, the Nelson Mandela Capture Site and on-site museum documents the life of the transformative South African leader.
The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Nottingham Road
Nottingham Road enjoys a moderate climate year-round. The winter months — June through August — are the coolest and driest, though the temperatures rarely drop below freezing. The rest of the year is pleasant, with the highest rainfall accompanying the heat in the summer months of December through February, and spring bringing a burst of bright color to the hills.
Top things to do in Nottingham Road
Balgowan Conservancy
Just a nine-minute drive from town is one of South Africa’s first official conservation areas. Stop at the log-cabin information center on your way in to learn about the area’s biodiversity before you step onto the hiking trails, which wind through mistbelt grasslands and native forests. Hundreds of bird species make their home here, including African fish eagles and colorful Cape parrots, and duiker and antelope are just some of the animals you may observe in the distance.
Fly Fishing
The Natal Midlands are renowned for their prime fly-fishing destinations, and Nottingham Road offers various options to learn from expert locals and try your hand at snagging a trout or two year-round. The winding Bloukrans River draws anglers from far and wide, Penwarn is home to seven bass and trout dams, and Upper Dargle is a celebrated higher-altitude spot for catching rainbow and brown trout.
The Midlands Meander
Nottingham Road is just one stop on the arts-and-crafts route known as the Midlands Meander. At the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal region, the Meander is a route between Pietermaritzburg to the east and the uKhahlamba Drakensberg park and mountain range to the west. The trail puts the spotlight on top-quality crafts and fine arts, including hand-dipped candles, handwoven fabric, and pottery, many of which can be found at artisan studios in Nottingham Road. But it’s also a great jumping-off point to explore all the area has to offer.
