We offer an inspirational "off-the-beaten-track" experience of Nairobi, guided by youth from slums who raised themselves on the streets of Nairobi City Centre. During a personal, one-on-one, 3-hours walking tour in Downtown, you will experience the city centre through the eyes of street children. Get the real insights into their way of life, get captivated by their life stories and ghetto-energy, learn from their street skills, ask all your questions, shop at local markets, bargain with your guides to pay a local price, eat street food, have tea with mechanics, see street art among and last but not least become friends with them. Social Impact: By booking a Nai Nami Tour you give disadvantaged youth from slums an opportunity to earn a regular income and inspire them as a role model. Upon arriving you will be welcomed by me, James. I will introduce myself and invite you to introduce yourself to me and possibly other new people. After introductions, I will tell you all about Soapstone, from where it comes from to how it is transformed into sculptures and artwork. I will show you pictures of the Soapstone quarries and show samples of pre-carved Soapstone, as well as show you some of my finished Soapstone art. Next, I will personally do a demonstration on how to paint, shine, and carve designs into Soapstone. Then you will get to practice painting, shining, and carving on a flat piece of soapstone before receiving your own 6 inch bowl and to paint, shine, and carve designs into. We will break for lunch/dinner, in which I will have a Kenyan lunch/dinner ready for you (most likely beans & rice or Githeri-a mixture of beans & corn). Throughout the entire experience, I will be happy to answer any questions and assist you if you need help on your own bowls. This experience is interactive and hands on, it is NOT just a lecture. When you are finished with your bowl, you will be able to leave at your leisure (and take home your new personally made soapstone bowl). Other things to note Wear clothing that you would not mind getting stained (there is a possibility of paints staining your clothes). Also, my place is located up some stairs and is not handicap accessible, my apologies.

They also provide motorbikes for Kibera residents to get to work. 3. Bio Gas Center - We’ll meet Edwin, the founder of a project which turns Kibera’s waste into energy for it’s inhabitants. 4. Women’s Craft Center - We’ll meet Rosemary who set up a workshop for women living with HIV. Collectively they remove the stigma of HIV by employing women with HIV to create crafts. 5. Master's Touch Bakery - At the finale of our tour, we’ll meet Nancy for coffee & fresh baked goods. We'll visit social impact activities that supports and trains young entrepreneurs within Kibera. As we walk through Kibera, you'll meet locals and see the growing arts and music scene, while discovering daily life. I'll talk about Kibera's history, political and social struggles, and its role in greater Nairobi as we walk. You'll get a chance to experience the warmth, strength, and resiliency of Kibera's residents. At the end of the experience, we'll stop in a local shop for snacks. A short drive out of Nairobi’s central business district is the Nairobi National Park. Wide open grass plains and backdrop of the city scrapers, scattered acacia bush play host to a wide variety of wildlife including the endangered black rhino, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes and diverse birdlife with over 400 species recorded. Then I briefly introduce myself and brief you about the itinerary 3.First stop will be at an open air market at the edge of the slum. 4. Second stop is a handicrafts production and sales centre. You will witness how the locals through hard work and resilience are making ends meet and putting food on the table despite the many challenges they face. They produce assorted products like jewellery, clothing, home & office decor and so on out of recycled materials like brass, aluminium, copper, cow bones and so on 5. Third stop is a random household inside the slum to showcase and let you learn how typically the locals live, size of families, size of houses, challenges faced, their dreams and aspirations 6. Next will be at a restaurant for a short rest and soft drinks as I tell you my story of living in the slum & how my tour guiding activity is helping orphans & vulnerable kids in the slum. My dream is to come up with a Non- profit organisation to help the orphans & vulnerable kids in a better way. We will pick you up at your hotel / residence/ a Airbnb unit in Nairobi. As you all know Nairobi National Park is unique as the only protected area in the world with such a huge variety of animals and birds close to the capital city. A short drive out of the Nairobi central business district is the Nairobi National park which host a variety of wildlife including both white and the black rhinos, lions ,hyenas, Hippos, antelopes, buffalos, Zebras, Elands etc. The pick up time is preferably 6:00am (if you will be ready) so that we make it to the park before sunrise for some amazing sightings when animals are still active. At the park, we will proceed to register at the main entrance to obtain tickets/gate passes: which is $43 per person non resident adults and $22 for the kids below 18 years which is Paid via cards(debit/credit) - not inclusive on the package! The total time is approximately 4-5 hours inclusive of stopovers - then later on after the Tour we will drop you back to your pick up location that is your hotel /residence. Leaving MAIN GATE before Dawn, we'll gamedrive through the Park down to the Athi Dam for a picnic breakfast/brunch. I will show you lions or the Park's iconic Browse rhinos.... From our picnic spot we shall drive back to East Gate across the High Plains, seeing all the creatures that you would expect to find in a rich African savannah. Nairobi National Park's small size is more than made up for by it's incredible Biodiversity: we have more bird species than the entire British Isles! . We will begin the tour in the eastern part of the city at the Eastlands Library in Makadara, which was opened in the late 1970s. Here, we will explore current collections and use, with an emphasis on our plans for arts-based programming and events in 2022 After that, we will visit the newly restored Kaloleni Library. Kaloleni was built by Italian prisoners of war in the 1940s. Here, we will walk around the neighbourhood, explore Kenyan history-making in the adjacent Kaloleni Social Hall where Kenya's first parliamentary election results were announced in 1963. Finally, we will make our way back to the McMillan Memorial Library located on Banda street, in the heart of the city centre. Here we will explore historical collections dating back to the early 1900s and share some of the restorative work we're doing on the collection itself. We will meet the guests at the Eastlands Library in Makadara (located in the same compound as the Makadara Huduma Centre) and finish the tour on Banda Street after visiting the Kaloleni Library.
