Bed and breakfast vacation rentals in Midlothian

This place is a true gem, a country house in the old style, lived-in but immaculately maintained, set in idyllic peaceful grounds with a (swimmable) river running through them — trout rising, rhododendrons and ducks and hens and even a heron... All that was needed for perfection was the perfect hostess, and Fiona delivered on that score, with a warm welcome, pots of tea and coffee at key moments, delicious home-made breakfast and general willingness to help with everything I needed. Cannot recommend highly enough.

This is a beautiful place to spend some time while in Scotland. Claire, Bruce (and Penny the dog) were warm and friendly hosts. The house was cozy and clean and the surroundings absolutely stunning. Easy to navigate even if you don’t have a rental vehicle, as taxis are readily available with knowledgeable drivers (and Claire and Bruce are happy to accommodate pick up and drops offs - even in the early morning if that’s what’s needed!). I’d definitely recommend this stay to any traveller looking for a peaceful rural experience.

We had an amazing stay! The location was perfect, and the house had such a unique charm. We wish we could have spent more time at the house, but we were eager to explore the city. John was an excellent host, and his two daughters were a true delight. Most mornings, we enjoyed breakfast with the two of them, and they were wonderful company, sharing stories and laughter. If we ever return to Edinburgh, this place will definitely be our top choice!

I came to the area for a 3-day workshop. I had plenty of time and space to prepare for my studies. H and Jimmy were also very personable and easy to socialise with. I felt like I was staying with friends. The complimentary breakfast was lovely. I highly recommend staying with H and Jimmy.

I had a great stay at Lucy’s place in Edinburgh! The apartment was very nice, clean, and comfortable—exactly as described. Lucy provided clear instructions, which made check-in and getting settled super easy. Would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend!

We found Amanda's after cancelling somewhere else that let us down. We knocked on their door which must have put them on the back foot but after we explained both Uzi and Amanda turned the room around so quickly for us to stay and were so friendly. The room was luch with a great view (Tunnock Tea cake on the pillow) :-) and Uzi left breakfast and even a bottle of wine out side on the landing which was so lovely. Even though its a shared house you still have privacy and easy to get in and out. Location you are straight out onto the high street and we had so much fun exploring.. and when we got back the bed was so comfy!! seriously such a good nights sleep! We will definitely stay again if they will have us :-)) big thanks x

As they say in real estate it’s all about location, location, location, here to it is all about location and what a spectacular and impeccable location. Walkable distance to every attraction. Close to all restaurants, bars and pubs. Very spacious squeaky, clean one bedroom with a clean bathroom in a private apartment. Love everything, will do it again and absolutely recommend with no hesitation.

This is a wonderful place to stay. Carole is a very warm and welcoming host who made us feel quite at home in her beautiful family house. The bedroom and adjoining bathroom were beautifully and immaculately furnished and the breakfasts were delicious, served up in her kitchen with spectacular views across Stockbridge. The location is great, within easy walking distance to Stockbridge, Dean village and the city centre. We loved our stay at Carole's and wouldn't hesitate to stay again!

Great stay for two nights, Easy and smooth check-in, the room described clearly like the pictures,expect to share a wonderful living room and kitchen with other guests, breakfast was delicious. The house 20 minuets far from the city center, hosts are very friendly and help me to keep my luggage until my next check in, if you look for clean and quiet places this is the right place, overall it was a good time spending there. They let me to take many pictures for the house and share it in my insta@M4.f.

This is how airbnb is meant to be. We got welcomed with a cup of tea in our nice room, had a good sleep and in the morning a breakfast like you wish for everyday. Mary and John are very nice educated people with whom you can talk about a lot of things, and we did. Breakfast took almost 2 hours, and in that time we became more than just guests. Later on in the week Mary guided us through the Royal botanic gardens, so nice. We will go back there.

I spent my first few days in Edinburgh at a hotel just outside the city which was fine, but moving for my last few days to Eleanor’s was wonderful! Loved the location (easy walk to the sea and botanical gardens). Also easy bus ride into the city for more site seeing. Trails near by for running were a plus for me. Eleanor is friendly and has excellent recommendations. She provides a nice morning breakfast, as well!

Lele merci is very welcoming and friendly. The accommodation is impeccable and well located (3-minute walk to the tram that connects the airport and the city center). We highly recommend it!

Our stay at Lucy’s Castle was wonderful! Lucy is a kind and knowledgeable host who shared fun facts about the sheep and countryside. The castle is a beautiful mix of old charm and modern comfort. As city people, we loved waking up to grazing sheep and even seeing deer nearby—something we’d never experience at home! Highly recommend for a peaceful, nature-filled getaway. Thank you, Lucy!

we had a wonderful stay at Faye's this weekend. even though it rained hard, we felt cosy and comfortable in the yurt enjoying the sound on the roof as we dozed off. the gardens are beautiful and the views out to the firth of forth are special. a real slice of paradise Faye and her partner were very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed while also giving us privacy to enjoy our stay. thanks for having us

My dog and I had a very pleasant stay at Jessica’s place. The balance between privacy and hospitality was just right. I asked for a recommendation for dinner in the area (a place that was dog friendly) and we ended up in a really nice pub! The area where Jessica lives is quiet with lots of green and the city center still walkable. I would recommend!!

With accomodation like this being available, I wonder why anyone would go to a characterless hotel. This has got to be high up in my top 10 of accomodation venues and one which I sincerley hope to have the pleasure of returning to. Carol, John and Archie the dog were just fantastic. Could not recommend them enough.

Tracey was adorable; so lovely and friendly and couldn’t do enough for me. I felt very safe and comfortable. Everywhere was very clean and tidy, the bed was comfy, and there’s lots to do round about. Accessibility to the environs was easy, including the main city of Edinburgh. The coast was also only a 2 minute drive. Thank you for everything Tracey x
