Summer Villa

Statues sit by the pool and horses prance across chairs at this wild-at-heart villa in Marbella. Its manicured gardens and traditional tiled roof make a stately impression, but the pride of place given to painting, sculpture, and pops of color shows off a more playful side. Tap into your own spirit of play on the nearby sandy beaches, some of the best on Spain’s Costa del Sol. Spend the sunny days for which the region is known stretched out on a lounger by the swimming pool or playing games on the broad lawn. Sit down to an aperitif or tapas in the shade of the outdoor living area before serving dinner from the barbecue at the alfresco dining table. Step through slide-away glass walls into a great room that feels like a gallery. Not only are the two sitting areas separated by a double-sided fireplace, they’re distinguished by sculpture large and small, and accent chairs in whimsical prints. A cherry-red rug whets the appetite in the formal dining room, and a gaggle of geese sing for their supper in the fully equipped kitchen. The villa is a short drive from several of the area’s best golf courses, many of which have hosted championships, and from some of its best beaches, which have sandy shores and relatively calm, clear water.
