Mirleft, Souss-Massa, Morocco
When you’re not relaxing on the local beaches, admiring the magnificent sunsets, or gazing in awe at the galaxy of stars in the deep black night sky, Mirleft offers plenty of other activities:
Shopping
Monday is “market day” in the main souk, where you can find a wide variety of local products, including honey, rugs, fabrics, argan soaps and oils, and jewelry. The rest of the week, the souk offers a wide range of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, and (except on Sundays) freshly caught fish. But if you don’t feel like cooking, there are several very good and affordable restaurants serving traditional and European cuisine.
Surfing
Mirleft offers some of the most consistent surf spots on Morocco's southwest coast, with plenty of excellent point break and beach break waves. There are four main surf schools, made up of locals and Europeans, who work together not only to provide equipment and expert instruction, but also to ensure that their clients have a relaxed and enjoyable time.
Paragliding
Stretching 80 km along Morocco’s southwest coast, the immense cliffs and high hills of the Anti-Atlas are a paradise for paragliders, offering flights almost year-round. Technically, you can take off from almost anywhere along the coast, but there are now two specially designated flying areas, cleared of dangerous cacti, located above the village of Sidi Bou El Dail, 17 km (10.5 miles) north of Mirleft. And, of course, the teams working there know all the safe takeoff points along the coastal ridges.
Fishing
Morocco's southwest coast is a paradise for fishing, and the Mirleft area offers some of the best spots along the coastline. There are literally hundreds of charming coves and high perches along the rocky coast, perfect for fishing for species such as John Dory, gilthead seabream, amberjack, and striped bass. And you don’t need to bring your own gear, as there are several tackle shops in the village where you can rent or buy the necessary equipment.
More things to do
In the Mirleft area, you can also go horseback riding, quad biking, and even take a donkey ride to visit the mountain villages and discover Berber rural life.
