The space
Our beautiful penthouse apartment in the Upper Bo-Kaap is a peaceful city retreat on the slopes of Signal Hill. Tucked away on a quiet street, it offers a rare sense of calm while you stay close to the best of Cape Town’s inner city. Bree Street’s restaurants and coffee shops, art galleries, First Thursdays, historic Bo-Kaap, the city centre, and key attractions are all within easy reach.
The apartment blends heritage charm with modern comfort. Expect curated local art, vintage-meets-modern design, generous natural light, and uninterrupted views of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, and the Cape Town skyline.
The private deck is the heart of the home. It is perfect for slow sunrise coffees, al fresco dinners, yoga, reading in the hammock or on the comfy couches, working outdoors, or golden-hour lounging. The deck includes a wood-fired hot tub (Kolkol), teak dining table, comfortable outdoor seating, a hammock, warm atmospheric lighting, and an outdoor shower, all ideal after a beach day, hike or busy work day.
Guests also enjoy complimentary secure garage parking, a rare bonus in this part of Cape Town.
Inside, you will find a cosy lounge, a well-equipped kitchen with a gas hob, air fryer, espresso machine, moveable kitchen island, and a starter kit of cooking and cleaning essentials.
There are several work-friendly spaces, both indoors and outside on the deck, making the apartment well suited to remote work, writing, studying, or creative projects.
The bedroom has a queen extra-length bed, 600-thread-count linen, and Tretchikoff-inspired décor. Large windows and a small balcony bring in fresh air and morning light, with beautiful Table Mountain views to wake up to.
Bree Street’s restaurants, bars, and cafés are around a 7-minute walk away. The apartment is also well placed for the V&A Waterfront, CTICC, Sea Point, Camps Bay and Clifton beaches, Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, and Cape Town’s hiking trails.
Accessibility:
The apartment is accessed via two flights of stairs and is therefore not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Note:
There is no TV in the apartment. Instead, there are plenty of beautiful nooks for reading, relaxing, writing, and taking in the view.
Winter comforts:
For cooler Cape Town evenings, the apartment includes a wood fired hot tub, a gas heater, with the first LPG bottle provided, an electric blanket, and extra blankets. Reduced winter rates and generous long-stay discounts are available.
Guest access
You will have exclusive use of the apartment and its deck area.
Other things to note
The Bokaap is a residential neighbourhood. Please be considerate of our neighbours. We are a tight-knit community and we look after each other. This is a 'dry' neighbourhood so restaurants and deli's do not serve alcohol. You are welcome to bring your own and consume it in the apartment or on the deck.
Monday to Saturday Cape Town's Noon Day Gun is fired at 12 o'clock exactly.
The daily cannon fire is one of Cape Town’s oldest living traditions. The cannons used - there are two of them in case one of them fails - are two of the oldest in the world still in daily use. The Noon Day Gun is an exciting place to visit, and you can watch the daily ritual up on Signal Hill at Lion Battery, from 11:30 (except on Sundays or public holidays). Otherwise don't fall off your chair when you hear loud cannon fire at midday.
We live in the house below the apartment with our three small dogs and four cats. The dogs Alex , Swifty and George are very well behaved but may occasionally bark when excited. The cats are restricted to the house and will not visit you unless you invite them up.
Sadly we are not able to cater for guests with limited mobility at this stage. The apartment is located on the second/upper floor of a heritage house so you will need to climb two flights of stairs.
Also please note that our house is on the slopes of Signal Hill and in close vicinity to Table Mountain National Park. We do encounter occasional small animal visitors such as ants, guinea fowls or lizards.
