The Swallow's Nest

Please note: this is a small shed, originally for 2/3 cows. It is neither a full-size cottage nor large barn. I cannot accept reservations which include babies, infants, children under 18 and pets.
The building is heated entirely by a wood-burning stove.

So named after the swallows which nested here until work started in October 2014, this compact and carefully renovated accommodation started life as a humble cow byre. It is approximately 200 years old, and stands apart from the main cottage with its own private driveway, entrance and deck. It overlooks a grassy meadow dotted with sheep.

The unit consists of one central living space with kitchen area, simple furniture and a bathroom. The king size bed is situated up a short series of strong wooden steps, on a sleeping mezzanine which affords spectacular views over the meadow and hills beyond.
Heating is from a wood-burning stove only with small portable radiant heater for occasional use. The kitchen comprises a sink, gas hob, small electric oven and fridge.

The Swallow's Nest is essentially for couples and offers a truly romantic and peaceful retreat - somewhere where you can literally ‘shed your life' and relax.
Guests should note that the mezzanine is not full head height and perhaps unsuitable for people with severe arthritic conditions, hip or knee replacement recovery patients.

It comes with all linen, towels, basic toiletries, freshly baked scones and some cooking essentials. The basket of scones, butter and jam are a welcome gift and are not supplied on a daily basis, unless requested and for a small extra charge. A towel refresh/drying service is offered for those guests staying longer than a few days.
One night stays are possible only where they fall between two existing reservations.

Guest access
The shed has its own driveway and entrance. Parking is solely for guest use. The meadow in front of the shed is also for guests, but care must be taken when entering or leaving, because of the sheep. The main cottage garden to the rear of the building is reserved for the owner. There is an outdoor wooden deck with a table, two chairs and a barbecue which are an integral part of the accommodation.

Other things to note
There is one friendly cat in the main house and garden.
No infants or children. Building is not suitable.
Strictly no commercial filming or photography.

Where you’ll be

Glenties, Donegal, Ireland

I live in a secluded and private location with complete tranquility, yet am surrounded by very caring and helpful neighbours. This sort of sums up Donegal : peace where you want it and help when needed. Add to this the stunning coast line and mountains, walking opportunities and great wealth of traditional music, the pubs and their people and you have a place I call home. - a little slice of heaven.
