Shiki Tofukuji is an old renovated Japanese 
house in Higashiyama ward with full hotel license approval.
It is categorised as a Machiya house, a traditional wooden town house which Japanese merchants used to own.

Other things to note
Though renovated, efforts were made to retain some of its old structures like its steep staircase.
The primary reason for steep, narrow stairs is to save space, a crucial consideration in traditional Japanese architecture.
(There is no elevator service within the premises so baggage racks are available both upstairs and downstairs)

Enjoy the tranquility of Shiki Tofukuji as it is nestled on a small hillside. Yet, a mere 7 minutes walk to Tofukuji Station, which is one station away from Kyoto Station. Tofukuji Station has both Keihan & JR Lines. From Kyoto Station, JR Nara Line takes you to Tofukuji Station. There is a convenient bus stop within 3 minutes on foot. Convenience Store: 7-eleven, Yamazaki
