Farmstay vacation rentals in Hertfordshire

Sally (aka ‘Sal’) couldn’t do enough for us and was available as needed throughout our stay. She is a lovely lady having travelled the world and has many a story to tell. Sally’s cottage and its surroundings retains all the romantic comforts of a building of its age from the rickety floors to the large open inglenook fireplace. The property doesn’t have running water downstairs but the bathroom upstairs has both hot and cold running water. It took us no time to master the kitchenette using spring water for cooking and water from the well for washing up - this is all part of the charm and romance of this property. The River Lea flows gently through the gardens of the property bringing with it many of the local water birds. The gardens are so peaceful - there’s no main roads outside but you can be in the village of Wheathampstead by car in about 10 minutes where we also went for a pizza one evening. The walking in this area is beautiful and we would not hesitate to stay here again!

What we liked the most was the location of the house, in the heart of the English countryside. Very quiet and wonderful nature place. The house was cozy. Suzanne has been very friendly and very communicative.

Garry & Lynne are just the perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble when asking for advice or recommendations. The house is just perfect. Beautiful lounge and kitchen with everything you need. The bedding was so comfy and a wonderful in shower in each of the bathrooms. If you like walking this place is perfect. Great country park within walking distance. There are some great little villages about which are worth a trip. Watford town Centre has great shopping too. Don’t hesitate to book this little gem of accommodation.

Had such a lovely time here. Rooms were as shown in the pictures. Amazing heating, shower and great cooking facilities. Beautiful location. Lawrence was always very helpful with any questions we had and responded very quickly. No complaints at all! Highly recommend staying if you are visiting the area. The only improvement would be to make the property easier to find on check in. 10/10 would love to stay here again

A fantastic place for a gathering with friends. The games room is exceptional and the pool great. Flexible bed arrangements meant all 8 of us were catered for. The kitchen is very well equipped for catering to everyone. Really recommend

Sarah is a lovely host and her place was perfect for our two night break seeing family. It’s very close to a nice pub and the train station. The welcome bottle of wine and beers in the fridge were much appreciated after a long drive. As family live close by we will definitely visit again. Thanks Sarah!

Fantastic stay. Property is really great value for money, and in a beautiful peaceful location which allowed us to go on lots of dog walks. 20 min walk to the nearest pub through farmland was really nice walk. Emma was really responsive and gave us lots of great local advice. Only issue we had was the shower was a bit temperamental, but with some fiddling around found a useable setting

We have just spent a long weekend at Ashmi's lovely house with our children, their partners and our grandchildren. The house was well equipped for all our needs and the welcome pack was well received. We loved the hot tub which we used several times during our stay. We spent a day at Duxford Airfield which is literally 10 mins down the road. If I had to say anything that could be improved it would be that maybe a few more pillows could be provided as some of the group struggled with just one pillow each, but it certainly didn't affect our enjoyment. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting a large house to spend time with either family or friends.

2nd stay at Tanglewood - beautiful gardens - peaceful and quiet! Just what we wanted for a break from our hectic home life & work. Perfect weekend get away. So peaceful and relaxing. Definitely recommend booking the sauna and hot tub! The Jumble was so cosy and warm even on a cold weekend and Darren was super friendly and helpful with any queries we had.

We would definitely return! Only issue was only one toilet for the 3 of us and no real shower unit (merely preference for us so not their fault) They had some lovely cats, very friendly, cheeky too as one of them got into where we were staying 4 times through various windows 🤣

James was a fantastic host and the property was absolutely perfect for our wedding trip. We couldn't have wished for a more perfect location. Great running and walks all around and nearby Cranfield is a lovely village. thanks to James and family

Great stay…nice and quiet

I’ve never been so sad to leave an Air BnB! Peaceful, quiet, heaven! Lovely enclosed garden/decking with patches of grass for the dogs, plenty of choice of outdoor furniture! Decking is a little worn and rotted in certain parts but otherwise it was a perfect little spot, we had perfect weather and spent most our time out there. 3 beautiful horses to watch graze from the garden with a cuppa, and a very cute donkey and Shetland behind the house to say hello to! It was honestly amazing - the perfect quiet retreat, the house is on the owners’ land but we were never disturbed but hosts were extremely responsive if we needed anything. Beautiful flowers and lovely fresh sourdough, chocolate and wine left for us which was such a lovely touch! Hosts were so welcoming and friendly, helped us with our bags which was very kind. Rooms were amazing with TVs, great wardrobe space, full working kitchen, stunning bathroom. We literally had everything we could possibly need, I would live there forever!

A short stay but a lovely place to relax after work. There is plenty of space and an amazing fireplace and it has everything you need. Danielle was very helpful and friendly. Recommended!

An absolutely lovely attic room and en suite. Caroline was very responsive, friendly and welcoming, making me feel very at home. I'd certainly come here first if I come back to the area.

Calm, quiet and well appointed The place is tucked away in the countryside and is peaceful and quiet. There is plenty of space and the kitchen has everything you’d need for an extended stay. The bathroom/laundry was well equipped and spotless, and the bedroom was very comfortable with plenty of storage. I highly recommend this place and would definitely stay again.

The Black Barn is a wonderful place to stay. It is so peaceful. Val and Philip are excellent hosts and they have created a wonderful place to stay. The fields at the back are ideal for dog owners. The Barn is only a few minutes from the centre of Berkhamstead and yet is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Black Barn is very clean with lots of storage space. We really enjoyed our stay!

We had an amazing stay! The home was so comfy and relaxing. Loved being able to take the children and dogs for long walks. Lovely local pub nearby. Angie and Charlie were very responsive and helpful. Would highly recommend!

Had a lovely stay at Misty Cottage with my husband and young daughter for 5 weeks, whilst our flat was being renovated. The property was homely and clean and the hosts were very welcoming and helpful, especially when we needed to extend our stay. The only thing I'd suggest is to explain in the Airbnb description that the washing machine for our cottage is communal as this would have been helpful to know beforehand. Overall we had a lovely time and would recommend staying here if you're looking for a quiet and relaxing retreat.

Kate’s place was amazing, such beautiful surroundings and felt very private. Lovely touch with a little hamper of goodies on arrival and just a gorgeous home. I loved my stay and would definitely stay again. Thank you!
