    Coverage for pre-existing conditions

A pre-existing medical condition is an illness or injury that first manifested itself, got worse, or required treatment in the 180-day period before the insurance was purchased.

Pre-existing conditions can be covered if you buy insurance within 15 days of booking, and while you’re medically able to travel. (Note that the 15-day requirement doesn’t apply to New York residents, who must only be medically able to travel at the time of purchasing insurance.)

Consult your policy for further details.

    Accidental damage coverage

For eligible US domestic trips, Accidental damage coverage (also referred to as Vacation Rental Damage coverage in the policy) may be offered. This provides coverage up to the amount shown in your plan’s Schedule of benefits for certain accidental damage caused by you or other guests to your host’s property during your trip.

Accidental damage coverage is available for eligible US domestic trips as a standalone policy or as an added benefit under certain Guest Travel Insurance plans. The standalone policy does not include trip cancellation, medical, baggage, or other travel insurance benefits.

Coverage plans are underwritten and administered by Generali US Branch and eligibility may vary based on your trip and timing. Coverage details will be shown on your plan details page and policy documents.

    On-trip protection

For eligible US domestic trips, an On‑trip protection insurance plan may be offered that provides benefits once your trip begins.

If you purchase On‑trip protection, your coverage includes:

    • Post‑departure benefits: coverage once your trip has started—travel delay, baggage loss or delay, medical, emergency assistance, and trip interruption—per your plan.
    • Accidental damage coverage: coverage for certain accidental damage caused by you or other guests to your host’s property during your trip, up to the amount shown in your plan’s Schedule of benefits.

On‑trip protection does not include trip cancellation benefits.

Coverage plans are underwritten and administered by Generali U.S. Branch, and eligibility may vary based on your trip and timing. Coverage details will be shown on your plan details page and in your policy.

    Adding insurance to your reservation

If your reservation is eligible, you’ll be given the option to add available products on the checkout page or after booking—just look for the Add to your trip button on your booking confirmation email and reservation details page.

Before adding an insurance product to your reservation, be sure to review all the details to make sure it’s right for you.

Shortly after your purchase is confirmed, you’ll get an email that includes a copy of your plan, as well as a link to your plan details page, where you can cancel your plan, start a claim, and more.

    Making changes to your reservation

Your plan will be automatically updated if the dates of your reservation or guest count change and there is no claim on the existing plan. If the change impacts the total price of your reservation, you’ll be charged or refunded an adjusted amount for your travel insurance and assistance services plan.

    Who’s covered

Each plan covers you and up to 9 people staying with you at the Airbnb accommodation. These people don’t have to be added to the Airbnb reservation or named on the policy to be covered, and there are no age restrictions.

    Assistance services

Each plan comes with assistance services like Emergency Assistance, Concierge, and roadside assistance. The amount you’ll be charged for Guest Travel Insurance, Accidental damage coverage, or On-trip protection insurance includes a fee for these services.

    Canceling your plan

US residents can cancel their plan and receive a full refund of the premium if canceled within the timelines below:

For Guest Travel Insurance (including Guest Travel Insurance with Accidental Damage Coverage): Plans can be cancelled within 10 days of purchase, provided you haven’t departed for your trip or submitted a claim.

For Accidental Damage Coverage standalone or On-trip Protection: Plans can be cancelled until the day before you check-in, provided you haven’t departed for your trip or submitted a claim.

    To cancel your plan:

    1. Go to Trips
    2. Select your reservation
    3. Scroll down to Travel insurance
    4. Click or tap Coverage Overview to get your policy details page
    5. From your policy details page, click or tap Cancel policy to get started

Note: You’ll only see an option to Cancel travel insurance if you’re eligible to do so. After the plan is canceled you won’t be able to file a claim.

    Filing a claim

Claims are handled by Generali from start to finish. You can start a claim by going to your policy details page and selecting Start a claim, or by contacting Generali directly.

    To start a claim:

    1. Go to Trips
    2. Select your reservation
    3. Scroll down to Travel insurance
    4. Click or tap Start a Claim to go to your policy details page to get started

If your plan includes coverage for accidental damage (also known as Vacation Rental Damage in the policy), and you’d like to file a claim for the damages to your host’s property, you can message your host directly to let them know. They’ll be able to submit the claim on your behalf once you’ve checked out.

    Reservation refunds

For home reservations, cancellation policies are set by the host and vary by listing. If you decide to cancel, your reservation refund will be determined by the host's cancellation policy for your booking. You can view the exact refund amount before you confirm the cancellation in your Trips. For non-refundable reservation costs, you can file a travel insurance claim if you are canceling for a covered reason.

The insurance premium is a separate charge from your reservation cost. If you choose not to file a travel insurance claim and you qualify for an insurance premium refund as noted under the Canceling your plan section of this article, you can cancel your insurance plan for a full premium refund.
