What happens if a listing or account is suspended, restricted, or removed under ground rules for home hosts

We require all homes hosts to follow our ground rules, which help create comfortable, reliable stays for guests. When violations occur, we aim to first educate hosts about the policy and issue warnings. Airbnb may temporarily suspend, restrict, or remove individual listings or accounts (hosts and co-hosts) for repeated or severe violations of the ground rules.

Listing suspensions

You can identify suspended listings by going to Listing issues found in Insights. While your listing is suspended, it won’t show up in search results and you won’t be able to receive any new bookings. You should also familiarize yourself with our ground rules for home hosts and review tips in our Resource Center.

You’ll have the opportunity to reactivate your listing once the suspension period is over. Depending on the nature of the issue, you may also be asked to provide sufficient evidence that the issue is fixed. 

Existing reservations

You can continue to host your current and upcoming reservations, which will not be impacted by your listing being suspended.

After the suspension period

If your listing is eligible for reactivation, you can reactivate by logging into your account and following the steps that appear. Once reactivated, your listing will again show up in search results and be available to accept new bookings. Please note that even after reactivation, your listing could be suspended again or removed from the platform if guests continue to report issues.

Listing removals

Listings that have been identified for removal will be shown in Listing issues found within Insights. If your listing is pending removal, it will not be able to receive any new bookings and will not be eligible for reactivation unless you successfully appeal. To understand what caused the listing removal, review the issues reported in Listing issues found within Insights.

If your listing is pending removal, it will be removed on the date communicated unless you successfully appeal. During this period, you are expected to continue hosting existing reservations following our ground rules for home hosts. Reservations at listings with check in after the removal date will be cancelled.

Once your listing is removed from Airbnb, it will no longer be accessible on the Listings tab.

Account Restrictions

If your account (as a host or co-host) is restricted, you will receive email and in-product notifications. To understand what caused the account restriction, review the issues reported in Listing issues found within Insights. Any issue reported for a reservation where you were the listing owner or a full-access co-host may contribute to the restriction.

While your account is restricted, you may be:

  • Ineligible for Superhost status
  • Prevented from participating in the Co-host Network
  • Prevented from publishing or co-hosting new listings
  • Paid on a different schedule, such as after your guest’s checkout date

Please note that even after a restriction is lifted, your account could be restricted again or removed from the platform if guests continue to report issues.

Account Removals

You will receive email and in-product notifications to alert you that your account is pending removal and provided with a link to appeal. While your account is pending removal, any listings where you are the listing owner won’t show up in search results and won’t be able to receive any new bookings.

To understand what caused the account removal, review the issues reported in Listing issues found within Insights. Any issue reported for a reservation where you were the listing owner or a full-access co-host may contribute to account removal.

Listing owners: If your account is removed, reservations for your listings with check-in dates after the removal date will be canceled.

Full-access co-hosts: Listing owners that you currently work with as a full-access co-host will receive email notifications that your account is pending removal. 

If your account is pending removal, it will be removed on the date communicated unless you successfully appeal. During this period, you are expected to continue hosting existing reservations following our ground rules for home hosts. Once your account is removed, you can no longer host or co-host homes on Airbnb and all your homes listings where you are the listing owner will be removed.

Appealing listing and account removals

You may appeal a listing or account removal by contacting us directly or through the link provided to start the appeals process by the appeal due date. In reviewing appeals, we will consider any additional details you provide, such as new or corrected information, violations of our Reviews Policy, or other relevant circumstances related to the violation(s). To see all violations tied to a listing or account level removal, go to the Listing issues section under the Insights tab.

To proceed with a listing removal appeal, you’ll need to provide:

  • The name of the listing
  • The reservation codes for the stays where the issues were reported that you are appealing
  • Why you are appealing the specific issue reports
  • Any relevant documentation to support your appeal

To proceed with an account removal appeal, you’ll need to provide:

  • The name of the account
  • The reservation codes for the stays where the issues were reported that you are appealing
  • Why you are appealing the specific issue reports
  • Any relevant documentation to support your appeal

Circumstances that are not considered grounds for an appeal include:

  • "The guest review was unfair." Disagreeing with a guest review is not sufficient grounds to appeal a decision under this policy. Reviews may only be removed if they violate our Reviews Policy.
  • “This was a one-time issue.” Removals for violations of our ground rules for home hosts are based on repeated or severe violations, rather than a single minor incident.

Other Airbnb enforcement action on listings and accounts

In addition to actions we may take for violations of our ground rules for home hosts, Airbnb may suspend or remove individual listings or accounts for violations of our other terms or policies.
