Just 2 hours from Brisbane, 15 minutes to Warwick and Clifton, 45 minutes to Toowoomba and the Granite Belt and on the outskirts of Allora, The Nesting Post is perfectly placed on the Southern Downs for slow getaways, regional events, and soulful escapes.

We invite you to stay slowly, tread lightly, and let this peaceful place restore something within you.

Guest access
As you enter the gates, The Nesting Post is on your right. Continue on the right side of the driveway to the carport at the rear of the cottage. Entry is self-check in using the key lock box located on the right side of the screen at back of the carport. In true country spirit, it is easiest to access the cottage via the backdoor.

There is additional parking at the top of the driveway on the right-hand side. Please leave clear access to the shed on the left. We share and use the driveway and parking space. We live in the house on the left side of the driveway.

Feel free to explore the rambling gardens, however we ask that you do so respectfully, remembering this too is our home. Please keep your exploration to the garden and do not enter any buildings.

Most times the shared driveway is quiet with only our coming and going, walking Rosie, our Labrador, and general life. Sometimes it’s a little busier with visiting friends and our holidaying adult children.

Other things to note
Living Off Grid
We are proud to be completely off grid and aim to live sustainably in our contemporary world.

We hope you enjoy all the modern conveniences The Nesting Post offers while remembering our resources are finite and so we request you use them wisely. Please don’t waste water, use the air-conditioners only when necessary and check all appliances and lights are switched off before leaving the cottage for any period.

All electricity is generated on our property via a battery storage solar system. Occasionally when the sun doesn’t shine as brightly as it can we rely on a generator. You may hear is start up and hum in the distance.

We harvest rainwater for all our needs, including drinking and cooking. If you would prefer bottled water, please pick it up in town.

Rainwater is pumped by an electric pump located under your cottage. You will hear it start when you turn on a tap, the dishwasher or washing machine are in use or you flush a toilet.

All effluent is treated on site, so please remember to only flush only toilet paper and human waste. Dispose of all other sanitary waste in the rubbish bin.

The treated wastewater is clean and irrigates the front lawn area. This area is safe to enjoy, but please do not drink the water as it is not potable.

We ask your help to return compostable materials to the earth and recycle when possible. There is a worm farm in the garden for your use and ask that you put recyclable bottles and cans in the bin with the yellow lid.

Supplies
We stock a basic pantry with a selection of teas, coffees, salt, pepper and olive oil. There is a seasonal herb garden at the back door for you to pick from.

Please consider popping into a local shop for your supplies. Allora has a well-stocked IGA supermarket with an instore deli and bakery. Aaron at The Allora Butchery specialises in locally produced HGP-free beef as well as other premium meats. He also has a range of delicious meals, ready to heat and eat, made fresh in their own kitchen. There is a BBQ waiting for you to create a culinary delight with your purchases.

If you’re staying a little longer, you may consider a Woolworths online delivery. In your order notes, ask for delivery ‘to the cottage on the right-hand side as you enter the driveway’.

Other Bibs and Bobs
We are proudly an inclusive stay and all guests of any background or community are welcome here into a safe space.

Our sensory-aware design reduces overload and creates a soothing atmosphere, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone. Detailed information is on our website.

The Nesting Post is a Queenslander style home, set on stumps with a small number of steps at both front and back doors. Both ensuites have step in claw foot baths and walk in showers, but no grab rails.

We have good phone connection with the major providers. There is no television to distract you, but wi-fi is available, although the connection is sometimes slower in our rural location.

We love children (we have four of our own). We welcome children after discussing your enquiry with you. We ask that for your children's safety, you are aware of the firepit and woodstove at the cottage and a water fountain on the property.

While we also love pets, The Nesting Post is not suitable for pets due to the delicate nature of its furnishings, neighbouring livestock.

There is an abundance of wildlife surrounding The Nesting Post. Guests are advised not to approach, engage with or feed any wildlife. If you see a snake leave it alone. Snakes are generally shy and will not attack unless provoked, so it’s best to leave them be.

We recommend you consider travel insurance. Very rarely our road may be closed temporarily due to flooding, disrupting your travel plans. As this is a travel issue, rather an issue with our listing, we don’t offer refunds and are not always able to extend stays due to incoming bookings.

Your health is very important. We follow Airbnb’s five-step enhanced cleaning process, developed in partnership with experts including The World Health Organisation. Cleaning products are also available in the laundry cupboard.

For safety, please only use the firepit at the rear of the cottage where is it positioned.

If you have any questions or need assistance at any time, we’d love to help so please ask.

Kindest Regards
Roy and Ros

Lives in Allora, Australia
Well hello! Roy and I discovered this magical place about twenty years ago and built our forever home where we've raised our four children, who have mostly flown the nest. Away from The Nesting Post we're both full time educators. Over time, we've created a beautiful garden and a sustainable, completely off grid lifestyle. Inspired by our bucket list, in 2021 we moved a cottage from Toowoomba to our garden and renovated it so guests can share the joy we feel every day to call this special place home. We are so fortunate to live within two hours of Brisbane on the Darling Downs living a rural life close to the beautiful historic village of Allora. We love seeing the sun rise and set (well, most days), experiencing four distinct seasons, and the big skies, fresh air and freedom living here brings. We are very much looking forward to sharing the private, curated space we've created for you soon.
