El Cucubano is a a part of our private, forested property that we’re sharing with the world. Islote is almost another island in itself and we can’t wait to have our guests enjoy our area for what it is - the good life.

The space
El Cucubano was built by Natasha and our closest neighbor, Roberto in 2010. Natasha, an ex-pro bodyboarder, fell in-love with Islote at a young age and bought her dream property here in 2008. Her vision always included sharing the area, and the community she loves so much with the world and set about building a beautiful chalet right behind what is now our family home.

El Cucubano is equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Enjoy the evening sunset from the private back patio, or take a short walk through the forest and down the street to enjoy it beach side. The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove and oven, mocha pot, water dispenser, mircrowave and toaster as well as kitchen ware and cutlery. Stock the fridge full and cook up a storm!

Linen and towels are provided.

We have animals, and lots of them. 3 dogs, all adopted off the street and 3 cats. We also have an absolute gang of chickens who rule the roost so to speak. If you’re up to the task, they leave fresh eggs daily, if you can find them. They can be noisy, so come prepared if you’re a light sleeper. Sun rise is at 5:30 am in the summer and our natural alarm clocks sure know how to get the party started.

We have a variety of fruit trees on the property, Guanabana, coconut, acerola cherry, banana and guava all produce fruit regularly in season.

Guest access
Guests are free to explore the property in its entirety.

Other things to note
We have a lot of chickens and roosters. They can make quite a racket at times, and could begin to crow from as early as 5am in summer.

Where you’ll be

Arecibo, Puerto Rico

Islote is a special place, one of the last remaning unexploited areas of the island where you can still walk the 3km stretch of beach at the end of our road on a weekday morning and most likely not see a single person.

In the winter, the waves along the coastline here are world class and that, as well as the love of my life was what brought me into the picture. I couldn’t picture myself living anywhere else in Puerto Rico.

Here the kids play in the streets, neighbors pass by on horseback, roosters crow and in the evening the sun lights up the salty air in a way that I’ve just never seen before. It’s like every sunset I fall in love with it all over again.

This is real life Puerto Rico. This is nothing fancy. Life here is simple, so don’t expect to much. I can guarantee that if you come without expectations you will find real beauty and simplicity here. We came for the waves but we stayed for the place.

We have two restaurants that are within walking distance. Both are seafood based and both serve good food, cold beer ( or whatever you like ) and have an unparalleled view of the beautiful Atlantic.

The beach is just a 5 minute walk to the end of the street, and the closest supermarket is about 15 minutes drive away. There are two great local bakeries, which serve local style breakfasts, coffee and lunches as well as keeping a decent stock of basic necessities.
