Nature, privacy and easy access to trails, waterfalls, Blue Ridge mountains, AT, antique shops, breweries, wineries, orchards, farmer's markets, and Wintergreen Resort. With 3 bedrooms, 4 beds, and 2 baths, it’s perfect for a family or a few friends. Fire-pit, private creek, deck with mountain view. Pure Magic!

The space
This three bedroom, two bathroom cottage is a cozy hideaway, tucked above a gentle mountain creek with a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains between the two hillsides. It’s a magic sliver of open forest, with plenty of room for children to explore, splash, and run. We furnished it to spark our children’s imagination by bringing woodland whimsy into the decor. You’ll be enchanted by the careful, loving design—this is our beloved family weekend home, and we are excited to be able to share our little slice of the prettiest part of Virginia with you!

With 3 lovely bedrooms, with a King, Queen, and 2 twin beds, a large living room for hanging out, a wonderful porch, charming kitchen, and great yard, the property has so much to offer:

🐟Gentle creek, perfect for children to splash and dig in, with a little square island our children helped build
⛰️Large, sloping front yard with a view of the mountains
🌳Open woods rolling up the mountain behind the house, for exploring.
🌤️Front porch with comfortable furniture that's hard to leave-- open a growler of local beer and sit a spell
🍔Covered outdoor dining area
🔥Fire-pit & Adirondack chairs
🥾Easy access to miles of neighborhood walking trails
🍺Located right in the heart of the 151 Brew Ridge Trail, with dozens of breweries and wineries 🍷 nearby

PETS
We are happy to host one pet in our home, but please note that there is no fence around the property. Also, even though our team thoroughly cleans between stays, consider our pet-friendly policy if you are highly allergic to dogs. We have a beloved old hound, so the house is pet friendly!
🐶 We provide a set of food/water bowls.

PARKING
The cottage is at the end of a 1/2 mile narrow gravel road. We strongly recommend driving in a 4WD or vehicle, or a vehicle with some elevation. There is parking available for 3 cars 🚘, but two (or better, one!) will be far easier to manage, especially turning around.

Guest access
The entire cottage is yours, and you'll have plenty of room of our 7 acres to explore and spread out. You are welcome to walk down our shared gravel road to lovely Glenthorne Loop, but please respect our neighbor Charles's privacy, and don't go up the fork in the road to his home.

Other things to note
DRIVING ACCESS

We strongly recommend only visiting with an AWD or 4WD vehicle or a car with substantial clearance. We love a Prius, but you may not make it up the road. We are only 1/2 mile from the paved road, but the first 1/4 mile of the road is quite rocky, and it’s all up.

SNOW

The driveway is not paved, and when it snows, it may be precarious and any type of plow service will take a few hours. As with any rural vacation spot, please watch the weather forecasts and plan accordingly.

WATER

The house is on well water and is extremely pure and delicious- Leave your bottled water at home! We also have great water pressure and ample water.

WILDLIFE

This is a rural property, so you will see all sorts of wildlife, including songbirds, deer, raccoons, opossums, groundhogs, turkeys, foxes, black bears, and insects of all shapes and sizes. Most of these will be outside, but if you notice some wildlife wandering in (we see you, mice) please let us know ASAP so we can take care of it.

Do not leave any food in your cars, and please don't take trash outside-- raccoons and bears are excellent at opening trashcans.

Turning off outside lights at night drastically cuts into insect entry into the house, and leaving the doors closed helps too, of course.

FIRE SAFETY

FYI Outdoor fires, even in fire-pits, are prohibited before 4 pm in our county. Please practice common sense and don't build a fire in windy conditions, and don't leave it unattended.

ATVs
This property is not appropriate for ATVs, and their use in our neighborhood trails is not allowed.

MINORS
All minors staying at the property must be accompanied by their guardians. We cannot promise that your cell carrier will cover you here. Most do, though. Please be aware of your plan’s coverage. The cottage does have VERY high speed fiber internet.

CALENDAR

If you're booking last minute, know that we do keep the calendar up-to-date, so you can trust the availability you see here.

PETS

We regret we can only host one pet at a time. We want to make the listing available to all sorts of families, so please brush your pet thoroughly before staying. Dogs must be crated if left alone in the cottage.

The cottage is ideal for couples or families with small children-- please be aware the cottage is just that-- a cottage. Those seeking suburban accommodations will perhaps be happier at the ski resort.

My work: Painter & Ceramicist
My husband and I moved from Memphis, where I taught English at a small college and where he wrote his first book, to return to the beautiful Rockfish Valley. We love our farm, our neighborhood, and sharing it. We both work from our home studios-- he writes books, I paint. In 2020 Airbnb tapped me to mentor new hosts & now I also consult with hosts, and co-host special local properties, helping folks host with intention and joy.
