Dedicated workspace

A room with wifi that’s well-suited for working.
Our family's white-washed seaside escape just 100m from the beach with great sea views. Dog-friendly and kid-friendly by arrangement, with a chest full of board games, it has a cook's kitchen and 3 wood-burning fireplaces.

The space
An airy split-level cottage with skylights overhead and a free-standing wood-burning fireplace on the upper level, with extensive sea and coastal views including the Cape Columbine nature reserve and its lighthouse. Designed by noted architect, Jaco Visser, and built with thick plaster walls and characterful chimneys in the architectural vernacular of traditional Cape West Coast fishermen's cottages, the top level is open plan with lounge, kitchen and dining area flowing together and opening onto two sea-view porches with banks of aluminium and glass doors that fold out and away beneath split-board pitched ceilings with exposed trusses. The larger porch has a braai and small seating area great for sundowners and stargazing. The lower level has traditional reed-thatched ceilings and two en-suite bedrooms with expansive walk-in showers. Each bedroom has its own free-standing wood burning fireplace. Double French doors open from each bedroom onto a small courtyard with seating in the shade. A path leads from the cottage through the indigenous garden to a private gate leading toward the beach. With the tight-sealing aluminium windows, skylights and doors and the wood-burning fireplaces, the cottage is fantastic any season and in any weather.

Guest access
Guests have access to the full space of the cottage, patios and garden. There is a private path to the lower boundary wall of the property which opens through a private gate onto a path through conserved green space that leads down to the beach. Two parking spaces are designated for this cottage.

Other things to note
There is plenty of light, sea air, and views, but no television or landline telephone. Guests will need to supply their own braai wood (outdoors) and firewood for the wood-burning fireplaces (indoors).

Where you’ll be

Paternoster, Western Cape, South Africa

Paternoster is a charming seaside village with many excellent eating establishments, including the world-famous Wolfgat just a few minutes' walk away, and the convenient Crayfish Wharf which is even closer. This cottage is in the Bekbaai area, which is more private and expansive than other sections of the village, and offers its own beach and walking paths. The main shop in town with groceries has good local veggies, cheeses, etc. and there is a local fishmonger, so if you will be self-catering you can provision on arrival.
