Welcome to Das Kulm!
Exclusive hangout and hideaway on the legendary Heringsdorf Kulm hill. The spectacular designer house, which was only completed in 2020, mixes contemporary design with historical elements from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is part of a historic villa ensemble from the penultimate century and offers a breathtaking, almost endless sea view. Just a few minutes' walk to the beach - and to the historic center of Heringsdorf.

The space
Private and central at the same time

Protected from prying eyes, nestled in a magnificent garden of gnarled old apple trees, tamarisks, roses, lavender and firethorn, Das Kulm sits enthroned at a height of over 20 meters directly on the green cliff.
Seeing the sun rise from the sea in the morning, a first hot coffee in the rocking chair, seagulls screeching, waves crashing, dune sand - in Das Kulm time becomes relative. XL rung folding doors that open to the water and to the south on the entire front of the house bring summer, sun, sea and nature indoors and life outdoors. And if you want to start the day with a wonderfully refreshing swim in the Baltic Sea, you only have to go down to the white sandy beach for a few minutes and down the steps. By the way, it is not much further to the organic scrambled eggs and freshly squeezed juice in "Pier 14" right in the heart of Heringsdorf.

The senses come alive

80 sqm of open living space on two levels; antique brushed plank flooring with underfloor heating; imposing seven-meter-high concrete walls with portholes; dimmable light; a two-hundred-year-old creaky chapel staircase; freestanding bathtub; white curtains that billow in the wind; washstands made of the wood of old Pomeranian elms; a 360-degree swiveling ceiling fireplace, in which the fire crackles when the storm rages outside - this is the place for your movie in your head. Cozy, snug, different...
Speaking of movies! For the cinephiles among you: Of course, Das Kulm is equipped with the latest Wi-Fi technology: long Apple TV movie nights on the stylish Samsung TV? Just as little a problem as cozy Spotify sounds from the Sonos boxes or Zoom calls via notebook.

Take off your shoes and breathe

The ultra-modern 40 sqm kitchen with dining table made of waxed concrete, in which three gas hobs including wok attachment are embedded, has everything you need for enjoyable hours alone or with friends: XL Smeg refrigerator, oven, microwave and dishwasher. Nespresso coffee machine, tea, coffee and drinking chocolate. And if you want, we can of course also organize a bottle of Usedom gin. It's amazing. If guests stay longer, there is a cozy fold-out sofa bed next to the master bed on the garden floor on the ocean floor, where you will be tickled in the morning by the rays of the rising sun on your face. Oh, did you know? Usedom is considered the sunniest region in Germany.

Immerse yourself in the myth of the Amber Coast.

On the famous Kulm hill with its towering majestic beech forests and its spectacular ocean view, the dream of the Heringsdorf seaside resort was born 200 years ago. With the White Castle, Chief Forester von Bülow built the first guest quarters in 1825, which was later followed by other lodging houses. This includes the Villa Meeresstern, to which the newly built Remise Das Kulm belongs.
In the Villa Meeresstern, Engelbert Humperndick, creator of the famous opera "Hansel and Gretel", composed the incidental music for Shakespeare's The Tempest almost a hundred years ago. The sisters of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy also enjoyed the summer resort here. The bathroom doors in Das Kulm are made of the same floorboards of the Villa Meeresstern, over which the famous visitors once walked. And, most importantly, after a stormy night, you must not miss going to the beach and looking in the fine dune sand for what gave this region its name: amber.

Sleep, swim, feast, stroll

We have prepared beach bags and beach towels for you in the cloakroom. In the historic center of Heringsdorf, Da Claudio, Lutter & Wegner, Domkes Fischpavillion, Bäckerei Junge, the Hotel Steigenberger with its excellent spa landscape are great destinations for feasting, strolling and relaxing. And if you have the strength to get on your bike, you can make great trips to the most beautiful landscape conservation areas with extensive bird reserves and renatured marshlands full of cranes, herons, swans, cormorants and storks. A real natural spectacle.
Speaking of driving: If you don't want to arrive with your own car - from Das Kulm to the train station it is only a few minutes by taxi. From there you can take the train to the rest of the republic. Flixbus also runs regularly to Heringsdorf. By the way, it is only 26 minutes to Heringsdorf Airport, which is served by various Lufthansa destinations.

Other things to note
A little poetry by the Basel-based poet Emma Brenner-Kron from 1873 ("Travel Pictures from the German North"):

"With lively jokes, we went on foot even further up the mountain, up through the magnificent beech forest, in whose shadow, like the holiest of holies in a giant dome, the pretty, small church is hidden; its colorful windows radiated the image of the lisping trees back. - It went up to the top of the mountain, the so-called Kulm, where the view of the wide sea is dominated by an estrad there.

In the shade of the beeches stands the little house, and from its elevated plane the view wanders to the sea, which is not far away.

Far down there lies Swinemünde: but the lighthouse shines like a burning star, up to us. And over there the island of Wollin with Misdroy, the friendly seaside resort. And far away, blurring in the ether, to the north the outlines of Rügen. - And mountain and forest, and field and meadow, they were green and blooming.
And on the beach we walked up and down, looking for amber, but found only shells, which we also took with us as a valuable souvenir. The coast near Heringsdorf is covered with that deep, white sand that shimmers like a snow field in the sunshine. The sand by the sea, innumerable as the stars of heaven, and indescribably beautiful!
For hours you want to linger on this soft, warm sandy field, stretched out on the shore, burying your limbs in the sand, breathing in the salty sea air. From the left, the dunes shimmered brightly, the beach grass alone overgrowing their loose ground; but above the pines and dunes, the delicate Heringsdorf with its villas and gardens, with its green, magnificent park, once again shone down from its hill.
