“This was hands down the highlight of our trip. The Balch Hotel, its beautiful garden, pond, & outside patio was a great place to relax under the blue skies and sunshine of Dufur. Crystal clear views of Mt. Hood, coupled with Adirondack chairs and hammocks are all the things vacations are made of. Not only was the historic hotel and period decor a welcome change to typical lodging, but the amenities can’t be beat. From the fresh, homemade cookies that greeted us upon arrival, to the friendly hospitality that prompted us to make dinner reservations, to the extremely talented chef(s)... within the first hour I was already regretting that we weren’t staying longer. The local treats featured throughout the hotel (teas, wines, food, soaps) were a nod to all the things the area has to offer. And the hotel’s charm invites guests to unplug, relax, play a game in the parlour, laugh with friends over drinks, curl up with a good book, or just sit back and enjoy the beauty. This place is a must stay for Oregonians and tourists alike. We will most definitely be back on our next trip to Oregon!”

“Came to Grass Valley to do a track day at the Oregon Raceway Park 2 miles away. This was a great experience for us. A large indoor space with a great yard and Koi pond just outside. There are lots of nice touches to make you feel at home; a full sized fridge and plenty of kitchen supplies; two full bathrooms, well stocked. Plenty of historical items around the property to put you in the mood to see more of Grass Valley. I've driven through Grass Valley plenty of times, but never spent any time there--a real mistake. Be sure to walk a couple blocks to see the old abandoned church, the old school house on the hill and the line of old farm trucks. This used to be a thriving town because of the labor that used to be required to run the farms. Then, use this place as a base to explore all the good stuff you can see on the back roads in Central Oregon. Not the Ritz, but clean and comfortable. A real value. We would be delighted to stay here again.”
Very peaceful and private. The apartment is close to many outdoor activities (biking, hiking, windsurfing, fishing, kayaking and wine tasting). For wind and kite surfers: walk to the sand bar, 5 minute drive to Doug's beach, 15 minute drive to the Hatch, 30 minute drive to The Wall and one hour drive to Roosevelt. For bikers and hikers: direct access to the Klickitat trail, 5 minute drive to the Syncline and many other trails. For wine lovers: multiple vineyards.
“No complaints!! I work Nationwide and stay at AirB&B’s three or more months at a time. Carole is newer to the AirB&B thing but definitely does a great job on being a host. I give 10/10!”
