A charming, rustic, self catering guest cottage set in the quiet idyllic Vumba Mountains, nestled amongst a backdrop of towering tropical montane forest and is a nature lovers paradise for walking, birding or rewinding, with a number of endemic animal and bird species including Samango monkeys Marshall's Dwarf chameleon, Swynnerton's Robin and Silvery Cheeked Hornbill amongst many others. Guided walks to nearby waterfalls, panoramic views, birding and meals can be offered for an extra cost.
“Wow! What an amazing time we had with Marianne and Peter. They are fantastic hosts, willing to go way beyond what we expected. Peter’s local knowledge and interests in nature meant we were take to see and experience so much more of the Vumba than if we stayed elsewhere. The setting of the cottage is spectacular, and there is so much to do in the area . We highly recommend their cottage to those who want to truly relax and enjoy what the Vumba has to offer. The cottage was rustic, as advertised, but was perfectly comfortable and was sufficiently equipped to enable us to do our own catering. We arrived as strangers and guests but left after 5 nights like friend.”
Experience majestic, 360-degree Vumba mountain views from a renovated, OFF-GRID modern farmhouse cottage. Located on a specialty coffee farm just 20 min from Mutare, this bright, open-plan cottage truly blurs indoor/outdoor living. Stargaze in the upstairs sleeping loft. Enjoy the famous Vumba mists from a private outdoor shower. Dine or relax on the wraparound veranda with family & friends. Lounge by the pool. Ideal for a quiet, quality getaway or a base to explore the Eastern Highlands.
“Beautiful setting, overlooking a valley and the Zimbabwe-Mozambican border. Very well situated, just down the road from the White Horse Inn and a short drive to Leopard Rock. Sebastian was a very friendly host as well, and offered to help in any way he could. The cottage itself is generally quite comfortable, and has pretty much everything you need. Lots of insects around the area, so bring bug spray. The only real downside is that the loft bedroom gets quite hot at night, and the room gets quite bright early in the morning - so bring an eye mask if you're a light sleeper!”
My place is a cozy home tucked on the slopes of Zonwe Mountain in Bvumba (in Shona means “Mist”) overlooking the tropical low lands of Mozambique. It has great views and situated in a beautifully terraced flower garden. The setting is ideal for couples, business travelers, families and small groups with a desire to break away from the hustles of city life and take a back seat to enjoy the country side and be close to nature. Montana is indeed a home away from home.
“The plan was to stay there for 3 days and I extended my stay because those important things I needed to do, did not seem important any longer after my stay at Montana. The pictures don’t really do the house justice so I would advise the host to update them. This is the best value for money accommodation I have stayed in - I probably would have paid a lot more. To top it up you have Mukoma Steven who seems to always be there by magic when needed and almost invisible when not. My plan is to come back again.”
