Peace in the heart of Ponsonby - perfect location
Came here and realised we had stayed before, and ironically we had been searching for the same listing a few times coming back to Auckland. Lovely place for a nights stay, comfy bed, great comms and a stones throw away from Ponsonby. Will definitely return :)

Coastal Palms Maraetai Beach Auckland NZ
We really enjoyed our stay. The unit is situated in a very quiet suburb with beautiful morning sunshine and seaviews. It was very clean and comfortable...my very tall husband appreciated the extra height of the shower too! Sheryll was a thoughtful host who went above and beyond to make our stay a special one. Would happily stay again and highly recommend.

Mission Bay, Auckland 2 Bed Villa Pool Spa Sauna
We had a three night stay at Malina's house and it was a fantastic experience. The location was perfect and within 5 min walk to the main Mission Bay bars and restaurants. Malina and Rod were both highly responsive and provided suggestions and also helped rescue us by lending us two international adapters for our devices. The house is beautiful and as shown in the photos. Modern and clean and the standout has to be the pool, sauna and jacuzzi. Our kids spent every afternoon in the pool area and loved it all. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone looking to stay in the Mission Bay area.

Modern +Amazing View +Convenient to Airport & City
Super happy with our stay ! Property is beautiful and waking up and having a coffee on the deck with that amazing view is even better than even the photos !

Quiet west coast getaway
Absolutely amazing location amongst rolling farmland. Beautiful, private beach within walking distance, no light pollution equaling breathtaking stars and for the nerds out there - Weathertop from Lord of the Rings is nearby! The house has everything you’d need, including one super soft bed and one super firm bed, satisfying both kinds of picky sleepers. The hosts were very friendly and responsive while also allowing us privacy - if you’re looking for peace and solitude, this property is it! There is zero cell phone coverage in this area but the WiFi worked perfect. We will definitely be back!

Candlemaker's Country cottage: near Hampton Downs
Perfect setting for a relaxing evening on the deck with beautiful views. So peaceful just south of Auckland is exactly what we needed after our 1st day of driving! Off to a great start with accommodations on our 2 week adventure! Thank you Jan and John!

Beachfront Sunset Bach
We loved staying here! The lovely space upstairs with the beautiful view meant we could enjoy meals with our teenagers and then they were based in the downstairs area and could sit around the fire and wander off to the beach. The decor was fun, the amenities were great and we could take the dog. We had a fantastic weekend!

Holiday right by the beach!
Sarah’s place was AMAZING! The space itself is newly done and classy! The surroundings so peaceful. We especially loved being able to relax in the hot tub. We highly recommend this getaway from the busyness of Auckland.

Your guide to Waiuku
All About Waiuku
An hour south of Auckland, the rural town of Waiuku is the perfect home base for exploring the abundant nature of New Zealand’s Waikato region. Popular outdoor activities here include hiking in Waiuku Forest, swimming at the black sand beach of Karioitahi Beach, and fishing in the Waiuku River. This tiny town center features a handful of streets lined with small shops, family-run restaurants, and one of New Zealand’s oldest licensed pubs.
You can also visit the sprawling Awhitu Regional Park with numerous hiking trails that traverse both farmland and the shoreline. Additionally, Ambury Regional Park draws day trippers from Auckland and Hamilton to its volcanic coastline and historic homestead. To bone up on local history, check out the historical sites along the Waiuku Heritage Trail or browse Māori artifacts at the Waiuku Museum.
The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Waiuku
Waiuku experiences a relatively mild climate with warm, sunny summer days and slightly chilly winters. The summer is a great time to book your Waiuku accommodation, especially if you want to spend time at nearby Karioitahi Beach or visit the Manukau Heads. During fall and spring, the temperature drops slightly, but you can still head out for a quick dip at the beach or spend a few hours relaxing in the sun at the Tamakae Reserve. Winters can be chilly and wet. Be sure to pack an umbrella and layers if you plan to spend time outdoors.
Top things to do in Waiuku
Tamakae Reserve
Tamakae Reserve is home to a sprawling riverfront lawn and open-air museum, where you can check out reconstructed late-19th century buildings, including an old jail and a creamery. If you want to learn more about the history of Waiuku, visit the tiny but informative Waiuku Museum also found here.
Manukau Heads Lighthouse
Roughly 30 minutes from Waiuku, the Manukau Heads Lighthouse sits at the mouth of the scenic Manukau Harbour. Climb the small, historic lighthouse perched high up on a hill to get sweeping views of the harbor and the rugged, emerald green landscape of the Waikato region. On a clear day, you can even watch planes take off from the nearby Auckland airport.
Karioitahi Beach
Just 10 minutes from Waiuku, this beautiful black sand beach is punctuated by driftwood and framed by the frothy waters of the Tasman Sea. It’s a picturesque spot for swimming, surfing, and sunbathing. You may want to bring sandals with you, though, as black sand can get scorching hot under the summer sun.
