“Stayed at Kiwi cabin, it was perfect for our weekend stay. Cosy, would put gas heater on for half an hour or so and it would stay warm for the rest of the night. Beautiful view to wake up to with the sea is 5he distance. Animals were lovely, greeted by 3 sheep the first morning and the friendly yellow lab. Nice solar hot water shower and the cooking area has all the basics (even some farm fresh eggs).”
Cute, cozy 2 bedroom cottage nestled in a bush setting. In the evening you can listen the native Kiwi & Morepork living in bush opposite the cottage and wake up to abundant birdsong, in this peaceful rural environment. We have everything you need to make your stay comfortable plus no noise, no traffic, no people, no light pollution, no cell phone coverage, a great get away from urban life, a chance to reconnect with nature and de-stress and recharge and experience farm life, for the curious.
“Perfect restful retreat in a beautiful quiet valley. I spent a blissful, relaxing few weeks here as time-out from the world. Although it was winter, I loved the misty mornings, ample firewood, hot baths, fresh farm milk and hanging out with the smooch farm dogs. Excellent WiFi. I was honoured to join a kiwi-lovers’ survey - perching on a hillside at dusk to listen for their calls. And learn more about egg retrieval. Do yourself a favour and go on a short course with Karen in Waitara to make a harakeke (flax) flower or weave a simple basket. She creates a welcoming environment and a great learning experience. https://www.facebook.com/KeteLady/ There is excellent shopping at Waitara charity shops. New Plymouth (also great op shopping) is not much further away, with art, museums and cafes. And it’s wonderful to explore Mokau, Mt Damper falls etc. One day, I did walk down the quiet country road to the beach but it’s a bit of a hike. You really need a car or mountain bike. Hope to return one day.”
We live in a newly built eHaus, which has been designed to the Passive House low energy standard. Our cosy, modern home is a 5 minute walk to Onaero beach, and the perfect relaxing escape from the city. We provide breakfast - cereals, fruit freshly picked from the orchard or home preserved fruit and home made jams. We can also do an evening meal (main and dessert) if required for $25 per person, using fresh spray-free produce from our property. We will be making hot cross buns at Easter time.
“Karen and Graeme are exceptional hosts. From the moment we met them we felt welcomed and completely at home. Karen really went above and beyond by not only telling us how to get to the beach, but giving us a guided tour of the property and orchard and taking us right to the beach (only 5 minutes away). The home is a unique concept and immaculately kept. It was always scented with the comforting aromas of freshly baked cookies or fruit being prepared for preserving. Those lovely smells did not disappoint as we were able to sample the home grown and homemade goods at breakfast (included) as well as the dinner that was prepared for us (definitely worth the extra fee). The only thing that was better than the food was the excellent company of our hosts, Karen and Graeme. Thank you for welcoming us so warmly into your home. Don’t hesitate to book here. You will not be disappointed! 😊”
