Drinks & Nightlife

The downstairs is like Belle's library for bourbon and whiskey. Try the rooftop for a great view up 18th street. Knowledgeable staff, top notch joint. I prefer happy hour here, but it is a classy joint in the later evenings.

You may be sensing a theme ... Bourbon has great cocktails thought up by their excellent bar staff. Solid menu with mac n cheese, burgers, salads -- several notches above typical bar food though. Great outdoor patio.

This is an Irish dive bar. Happy hour until 8:30pm. Washington sports rule here, as do the regulars. Thursday-Saturday, it's busy after 8-9pm and a bit sweaty late in the night on Saturdays. Won Best Neighborhood Bar from City Paper for something like 5 straight years (did I mention the loyal following of locals?).

Parks & Nature

Sundays at 4pm, there is a terrific drum circle at the top of the park. Just follow the beats. Best way to enter from my home is to cross 16th at Crescent and walk up the stairs to the left. Can get a nice jog around the park here as well, or bring a book and people watch.
