ou can't ask anything more from a pub/bar than this. A two story local with better than average bar food. (because it comes from the restaurant next door). Wide and worldly beer selection. Pool tables and games upstairs and very friendly waitresses - if you can get one to your table. If not, you will have to bear the attitude of the usually disgruntled and distracted bartenders. Tons of TV screens for sports and they were open at 7am for the World Cup.

Michael Jackson appearing nightly. Great karaoke - including an all night hotel venue. Old Atari games but make a reservation or you might not find the place which is hidden - we won't tell you where.

This local eatery/bar is famous for late night happy hours, dancing on the bar and Mary's wild character. Practically historical at this point. Right nextto Upright Citizens Brigade. A popular venue run by Amy Poehlar of SNL with shows running all night into the wee hours.

The best donuts in LA. It's a rapidly growing fact. When they have them. It's kind of an artisan thing here and often they don't have the exact donuts you loved last week but they do have some methodology in the making that is clean and guilt free. Maybe the oil, absence of refined products - we don't know - but whatever it is we don't gain weight or have sugar crashes.

Full bar. Great menu. Outdoor garden seating and a nice happy hour but we go because it is one of the only places in LA that has great buckwheat pancakes. They also have dinner and are dog friendly. A brother bakery/coffee house is attached but only open bakery hours. Free wifi.

"And wine"... should be on all their advertising because they have and excellent selection of big cabs, complicated pinot noirs, interesting meritages and a whole world of exciting and chilled whites that I am sure are great but I only have the (Nobilo-ish) souvignon blanc. you're gonna spend a lot of money if you eat here but it will be worth it. The food it just exceedingly tasty and you forget about all your trouble in the atmosphere they have created.

Don't go to any other Barney's. This is the real deal. The original. A huge diverse and mostly comfort menu. Local flavor and a bar that goes all the way until closing. Some games to play and TVs to watch. You can light a s'mores desert on fire at your table and no one will care if the condiments melt.

Entertainment & Activities

This little theater is home to the Upright Citizens Brigade Los Angeles contingent. Amy Poehlar from SNL and a great many talented improv artists serve up a variety of live shows that go on all night. There is always a line.Get you tix online but the best shows are at the theatre on Franklin. Not on sunset.

The famous Cinerama Dome (the big theater here) is still unequaled in LA or anywhere except IMAX. Just when you think you've got enough screen, more opens up to surround you. Sound as well. Best place to see epics and action. Annoyingly over priced tickets but often worth i and they have REAL BUTTER for the popcorn. Bars in the theater and adult screenings for 21+ with bar service.

Olvera is one of the oldest streets in LA - across from Union Station and near City Hall. It has great Mexican heritage and the food to back it up. Huge margaritas. A short but fun promenade with inexpensive gift shops and local Mexican artwork on sale. There is usually a band on the weekends. I go there at least twice a year. On my way downtown for something.

Essentials

The most tidy full service market you will find in LA. Harley ever a line but also annoyingly overprices. If you see a celebrity here just say something nice and move on. Lots of local TV and Film folks shop here ( esp late at night before closing - shhh)

Parks & Nature

This hike has pretty much become nothing to do with the historic Errol Flynn estate that it is built on and even less about health and nature. If you want to see 300$ Lululemon yoga outfits being used as dog walking gear and uncomfortable cosmetic surgery. of people who look slightly famous, this is the place to go. It's a zoo and parking is impossible but it can often be entertaining. There used to be outdoor yoga but now there is talk of putting a bar at the entrance.
