Food Scene

This pub is our favorite place to dine locally. It has outstanding and authentic British pub fare, Guinness on tap (as well as other great brews) and many vegetarian options. Dine around roaring fireplaces, at the hefty bar or on the terraces depending upon the time of year. Look for the red London telephone booth in front of the pub on Rt. 50 in Upperville, a 10 minute drive from our farm.

It's really a deli rather than a market and we love it for a quick bite to eat, preferably on the terrace since indoor seating is limited. They offer a nice variety of subs, sandwiches, homemade soups at reasonable prices. Local shop keepers in town often call in orders for carry out.

Affiliated with the nearby Salamander Resort & Spa, this market offers a high end (and somewhat pricey) menu for eat-in, carryout and catering. There is plenty of seating indoors and under cover outside and it's a great spot to hang out in Middleburg while you're taking a break from shopping or hiking around the town.

We love Goodstone...in fact, we were married there in 2005! This is a beautiful, high end B&B just a 5 minute drive from our farm. The menu is fantastic, albeit expensive, and the bar with huge hearth is a nice spot for a drink. There is also a lovely terrace if the weather cooperates. Great choice for couple looking for a romantic evening together, or stop by for a drink and stroll the grounds and gardens, which are stunning.

This is the longest running business concern in the town of Middleburg and, yes, George Washington slept there--he surveyed the original town plan. It's an historic B&B with a fine restaurant furnished with Virginia antiques and hunt country art work. The extensive menu has something for everyone, focusing on hearty and plentiful.

A fairly new addition to our community, this place offers fantastic farm to table cuisine! Located in one of the oldest buildings in town, it has the charm to boot. Lots of organic and vegetarian dishes too and all locally grown and sourced.

This is your go to place for a cup of java, and perhaps a light lunch. They have great wi fi access so it's frequented by locals holding informal business chats as well as visitors looking for a homey place to catch up on email. The terrace is great for people watching too!

We're frequent zip liners and love the Tree Top Zip Line Adventure offered on the grounds of Salamander Resort & Spa. The tour takes about 3 hours and is well worth the time and cost for the thrill of zipping through the towering hardwoods in the forrest.

Shopping

This local icon has been owned and managed by the same family for nearly 30 years. The shop is two stories high and a block deep, filled with gifts for everyone and every occasion. They have a wonderful selection of local items unique to our area. I can always find just the right item and gift card for my family and friends without having to drive more than 10 minutes from home.

This is the only grocery store in Middleburg...remember, the town only has one stop light! You should be able to find everything you need there, even though it's quite compact.

Parks & Nature

For our plant lovers, gardeners and birders, the State Arboretum is an easy 30 minute drive west from our farm near the Appalachian Trail. There are exhibits and miles of trails to explore and, of course, hiking sections of the AT for the more adventurous.
